Mine is traditionally turquoise which does nothing for me personally, but there are two other alternatives, tanzanite and zircon, both of which are a lot more interesting.

Now that they added spinel to August, I'm all set!!! I do have one pretty Arizona peridot.

Garnet.

My parents were really “into” birthstone rings, so I got a red garnet at an early age. At the time, I really disliked the colour red.

About ten years ago, a jeweller told me that garnets come in many colours besides red, which was news to me.

I found Pricescope while googling demantoid garnets. Now I like garnets for all the different colours they come in.

This is good news for garnets
i feel a bit sad when someone gets a birth stone they dont like

I'm January. Always hated the brownish red garnets that I associated with what I thought a garnet was.

Then I discovered tsavorite, demantoid, and even some rhodolite garnets....

My traditional birthstone is opal and I absolutely HATE it.
My "modern" birthstone is pink tourmaline and it's fine but I prefer spinels/sapphires to tourmalines. :(sad

Aqua but I haven't found any aqua that I love enough to buy, set and wear.

Mine is ruby. I had a few throughout the years, but right now I'm in love with untreated gemmy untreated pinkish red ruby. In my Ivy abd rose vintage style setting :)20220319_154157.jpg20220321_153052.jpg

Mine is topaz and....meh. So many of the yellow ones look like a urine sample, and the swiss blue is done to death. I will make an exception for a good, moody, London blue topaz (I own several). And some day I hope to own an imperial topaz with good pinky-salmony color (but $$$$$!).

Mine is amethyst. I despise the color purple. My sons’ birthstones are diamond and alexandrite + Pearl so I take advantage and wear theirs instead

Same!
Amethyst for the camel that despises purple. Sigh.
My boys are sapphire and diamond - lucky ducks!

Turquoise & Tanzanite for Dec.
I prefer the former but not love enough to own one.

Crossing over from that VCA thread to say I don’t mind those turquoise in butterflies :evil2:

Mine is garnet and I’m not a fan. (However, I was born four weeks early so it was supposed to be amethyst, which I like a lot more. LOL! Darn the luck.)

I’m January too and I’ve always just associated garnet with the reddish brown color. You mean we have more choices?!? Oh boy…. *opens google*

Me too. Hated garnets. To be fair though I have not explored garnets with the thoroughness I should have. I fell in love with sapphires.

Maybe once I’m done with setting all my latest settings I might embark on a proper exploration of my January birthstone.

Malaya garnets can be peachy-pink, spessartite for the bright orange, tsavorites for the bright green... I, too, dislike the reddish-brown garnets. It's why I thought I could never get a family birthstone piece done—mum is a January baby, and dad is August (peridot), mine was opal... I hated all of them! :lol-2: Until I found out about Malaya garnets and the "modern" birthstones for August (spinel) and October (pink tourmaline). Now those are more my style...

Diamond, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
