What Music Do You Like?

Oh @sledge I'm so sorry, I didn't realise you and Mrs Sledge have been having such a tough time. You're always so upbeat, helpful, and mindful of others. You are both in my thoughts!

@sledge I am so sorry about all your wife and you have endured and am sending bucketloads of healing dust her way and keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. May she make a full recovery and sending you gentle hugs

I’m so sorry to hear this about your wife @sledge. Big hugs to you for being there for her.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife, @sledge . I hope she finds some good news & a recovery soon!

... I understand (and respect) you aren’t religious @kenny but you may appreciate her voice. ...
Actually I love some "religious" music.
I've posted here that I appreciate the sound of music, way more than the meaning of a song.
I rarely pay attention to lyrics, rather just the feeling the sound gives me.

My favorite is this acapella Gregorian chant.
I performed in a choir in college.

Then, I love a Christian band of three siblings, 2nd chapter of Acts.
Two sisters, and their brother.
Listen how his voice contributes "soul", saving it from being too saccharine-sweet.

The trio's heavenly (pardon the pun) voices blend astonishingly well.
And I like the 1970's era synthesizer, dated but perfect for the song.

It's called Easter Song, Sorry it's one day late)

2nd chapter of Acts Easter Song

I like a variety of music but am a huge Motown fan!! Aretha can still make me sing and dance! We will always have a special place in our hearts for 70 and 80’s music too - our newlywed days!

I spent my early childhood in the south and there was gospel music on the early morning news show every day. I have a real fondness for gospel - very moving for me.

This sounds like me. What part of the south?

HI:

Honestly, I listen to everything. When I am home, my radio is glued to CKUA. Such a (remarkable) variety. One minute you are listening to Julian Taylor (stunning) and the next it is Trent Reznor. I enjoy it all.

cheers--Sharon

Thank you everyone for your concerns, prayers, thoughts and good vibes expressed here and other threads. They are very appreciated!

The REM song hit home. I’m pretty good at keeping my crap together and staying mentally strong but I have to admit this one got me a bit. The way it suddenly came on and her being young for these type of issues. And then there was a point her mental confusion was off the charts and I just wasn’t sure she would find her way back to me. Thankfully it was short lived but having the love of your life recognize you as their brother, then not at all and hallucinating and talking to people and animals not in the room will test you in ways you don’t want to know.

We are still facing some battles but thankfully they are easier. I have faith we will make it fine. Probably more than her so I’m pulling her along like a stubborn mule (trying to resist a joke here, lol) but we are progressing.

One of the coolest things is how our neighbors, church and work family has stepped up and been so supportive. We made a move not quite two years ago so our closest friends & family is about 6+ hours away. I have truly been blown away by their generosity and willingness to just step in and help no matter how trivial. We have a lot to be grateful for and I hope to pay it forward as I know how it has touched our lives in such a sincere and meaningful way.

Anyhow, enough of the mushy stuff. Back to the tunes. For the Queen fans, decided to start my morning right with this one.

@sledge my heart goes out to the both of you and I am keeping you in my thoughts and non religious prayers and I want you to know I have a strong feeling everything will eventually all be 100% fine. I don’t often get these premonitions but when I do I havent been wrong yet. Big hugs to both of you

I can only imagine how difficult this was for both of you at this age and stage of your lives. She is lucky to have you as a partner to help guide and encourage her along the way! Having a good support system is vital as well and it sounds like both of you have made good community connections after the move. The PS community will be here for you as well; if you need a place to vent and scream from time to time, we are here for you!

I normally save my memes for the other thread but given they are music related I figured we could slide them in here.

Besides they are both on my list and probably most of yours also.

I love Journey. "Lights" is my favorite because of Neal Schon's guitar run. Lol

I also love guitar solos!

I’m sure you’ve heard of GnR November Rain. Slash does some guitar work at around the 4, 5 and 7 minute marks. Maybe one of the longest songs ever at 9+ minutes.

Also I absolutely love Sweet Child of Mine. Slash starts out the song in a solo, lol. Growing up, two of my good friends were twins from a strong Pentecostal family. I introduced them to this song and they loved it. Always wanted to play it whenever they were in my car. LOL, good times.

A few songs popped up on my playlist that I thought you may appreciate @jordyonbass.

A couple of Buckcherry songs too but didn’t want to get my post deleted. Strong language, etc so proceed with caution if you look up. Crazy B*tch and Say F*ck It, the latter being a spin off of the popular Icona Pop song, I Love It.

Oh, cool topic!

For just listening, I’m a huge Taylor Swift fan. Folklore is just one of the best albums ever and I can listen to it on repeat. Her catalogue of music is so deep at this point you can literally find something for every mood (and she is a brilliant writer).

Often I’m not just listening, though, I’m lifting. And heavy deadlifts or squats call for very specific music. My Spotify has all these on repeat:
—Any of the songs on the Jay-Z/Linkin Park collab album (SO, so good)
—Rage Against the Machine
—Eminem
—Old school 90s hip hop
—Niki Minaj
—Lizzo
—Unholy, Sam Smith
—Toxic Pony
—Spotify made me an R&B playlist and I’m obsessed. Missy Elliot, TLC, Blackstreet, Usher, Dre, Nelly, Mary J. Blige, etc.
—Spotify’s “Feeling Accomplished” playlist. It’s fabulous. Pop and hip hop. Rihanna, Beyoncé, Missy, Niki Minaj, Saweetie, Cardi B.,Nelly Furtado, Snoop, Flo Rida…..
—Grunge. Any and all. Anything Chris Cornell. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, STP.
—I need a whole category for Linkin Park. I know. I’m weird.
—AC/DC, Aerosmith, GnR, Def Leppard.
—Astronaut in the Ocean by Masked Wolf is an awesome song. I had Spotify make a playlist around it and it’s fun.

For mobility work or PT stuff I enjoy my Xennial playlist. It’s got the Cranberries, Radiohead, Soul Asylum, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, R.E.M., Gin Blossoms, Live, STP, CAKE, Audioslave, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alanis, Beck, DMB, Barenaked Ladies, U2, and others.

That’s pretty much me. Occasionally new stuff gets added in because my teens keep introducing me to new music.

Omg, I love Crazy B*tch for lifting!

Ok, love all these.

Pro tip: never, EVER make a song you love your ringtone.

I had the guitar riff from Sweet Child of Mine as a ringtone well over a decade ago and I still jump three feet in the air and look for my phone when I hear it.

Thank you for the kind words, they mean a lot. I am glad those songs touched your heart. It’s truly amazing how music can have those effects on us.

And Mrs Sledge is doing better. I should probably make a separate post but after nearly a month in the hospital she is home. Short version is she had strokes twice. We got a diagnosis of CNS vasculitis this last hospital stay. However earlier this week some of her genetics testing came back and we learned she also has CADASIL. We are now unclear if both are running parallel or if symptoms are masked. Both are fairly rare and we have started conversations with Mayo Clinic for a second opinion and confirmation of the right treatment plan.

I know @RunningwithScissors is facing her own medical battles right now. I think @mrs-b just overcame a major surgery. And I’m sure there are others silently facing their own demons. It’s hard to stay strong mentally but perhaps this song can offer some encouragement to anyone that needs a reminder they are enough and can overcome whatever obstacle they are facing. Godspeed my friends!

I’m so sorry that Mrs. Sledge has been ill, @sledge . That sounds really scary. I hope her physicians can get you some answers and a clear path forward.

Appreciate the song. I’m having surgery in July and I’m honestly really apprehensive. Have been doing acupuncture to try and calm down.

Oh yes.

Oh yes ! I love some GnR! Sweet child 'O Mine is one of my favorites!

@ Sledge, you need to google youtube video of garage band kids Sweet child o mine. These are 12 yr olds, and the quitarist is awesome. Also a middle school band with the lead singer a little girl and a little long haired boy on guitar who is awesome.

@Tonks thank you for the good wishes with the wife and all that.

Between myself and Mrs Sledge our tastes are pretty similar in music. Sounds like it would be fun to hang and jam out together.

Speaking of that, awhile back I started creating playlists on YT so when we throw parties, cookouts, etc we have "customized MTV" going on. Seems to be a real crowd pleaser. Often I will let everyone choose their own songs which can get really fun.

Years ago before tying the knot, I took a date to see a Rascal Flatts (yawn) concert and Taylor Swift opened for them. There was a solo she beat the living dog snot out of a set of trash cans on stage. No doubt, her drummer made her look like a bad ass, but she was the best part of the night. While I don't like all her stuff, I respect her owning what she does and being diverse. I tried to find a video of her doing the trash can thing. Apparently she did something similar at multiple shows. It wasn't the same one and I remember her doing it solo but maybe I'm remembering wrong.

I'm also a LinkinPark fan. My friends moan & groan when they see Waiting for the End come up on the infamous playlist.

Also, if you like Buckcherry, for lifting you may like these as well. I know Nickelback seems to be universally hated but I like them. Got tickets to see them in the suite when they come through town. Darkest Days opened for them which was also good IMO. For all the Nickelback haters, I will have to get my hockey jersey out for y'all.

Getting the morning started right. I might add the one concert I regret not making. Had the tickets and everything. I could kick my own ass for that one.

Anyhow….

I have similar feelings about missing an Aerosmith concert when I was in law school. Apparently it was fantastic. However, while it would have been a great show, it was right to miss it—I had just adopted a dog and didn’t want to leave him alone yet. He was such a good boy. Was with me until he passed at the ripe old age of 17.

Oh, the concerts.
In the early 80s, my sister and small group of friends went to see as many as we could.
My first concert was the Outlaws in '81.
During those years we saw Molly Hatchet, Allman Brothers, George Thorogood, Def Leppard, Santana, Ozzy, REO Speedwagon, ZZTop, Elvis Costello and many others.
One that stands out was Devo. They wore the flower pot hats, and projected naughty suggestive images on a big screen behind them!
In later years, we saw
Dylan, Springsteen, Elton, Rolling Stones in the big arena venue, but those are much harder to appreciate because of bad seats and too many people.
The smaller venues are so much better.

Oh, this made me think about different venues and concerts!

One of the most amazing bands I’ve seen live is U2. But a huge venue, so typical stadium concert experience. I also saw Pearl Jam in a giant stadium—my first and only time in general admission with no seat. Oh dear God, NEVER AGAIN. The fire marshal had to stop the show several times to tell people to move back. No one moved—we couldn’t. It gives me very weird feelings to read about people getting trampled at concerts because I think we were very, very lucky.

In college I was fortunate enough to see both Alanis Morrissette and the Indigo Girls in small venues. Both were INCREDIBLE concerts. The one for Indigo Girls literally felt like we were in a living room watching them perform for a group of friends. The Alanis concert….the emotion was unreal.

Led Zeppelin is my very favorite band. Any kind of rock mostly, blues-based, anything with Glenn Hughes in it, including Black Country Communion, which also introduced me to Joe Bonamassa. Also fabulous! My husband played drums in a Zeppelin tribute band. Not an easy feat, or feet either, seeing as Bonham used only a single bass pedal, whereas since the late 80s, double bass was the fad. My guy can bounce those ghost notes off that bass like nobody’s business and plays 100% “by feel” which might be why his rotator cuffs caused his retirement.

old video for fun: (drums are louder than vocals cuz they literally are louder than monitors).

Also for fun. This. 1681501415680.png
