Some my roses are:

Critters--all kinds
1.gif

Interesting weather--I love the electricity right before a storm.

The ocean--helps to live next door.

Plants/Flowers--CA is teeming with life.

Interesting compositions in structures--whether it be in architecture or something small--like an interesting pattern in a sidewalk.

I smell lots of roses.

You live right next door? I LOVE the sound of the ocean, it's so relaxing. I could listen to it all day. I am so uber jealous.

Can I come visit??

Steel, I hear you on the country! When my dad was alive, the last several years he belonged to a private hunting club about an hour away. You had to take the ferry across the river, and then it was about another 20 minute drive through some of the most picturesque landscape I've ever seen. Just country side with gorgeous rolling hills. I loved it in all seasons, but fall always struck me the most, because the planting fields would turn brown (after being cut) before the grass did, and it just looked like this huge, natural patchwork quilt.
30.gif
The last curve in the road as you approached the entrance was atop a hill, with this phenominal valley below. That view never ceased to amaze me in all the times we made that trip. I really miss that drive!

Addy, I used to LOVE lightening and thunder storms. I'd sit outside in the middle of one.
23.gif
But after some killer storms, and having lightening come up in the house, knocking out TV's, radios, answering machines, and taking two huge Oak trees down, I'm not the fan I used to be. They make me nervous now, and I hate that!

Mara, 10 months out of the year ain't bad!

Marion, thank you dear! It looked rather like a llama to me, so I looked up the difference. Who knew?

I'm so glad you are enjoying this, me too!

I love the ocean--makes problems feel really small.

That''s a great one Ellen and so sweet it reminds you of your dear father....

Hmm, I always stop in my tracks if I hear a baby laugh. I think it is the sweetest sound in the world. It just makes me stop and think how lucky I am to be a mommy.
That''s a great one, I love them too. And I''ve got a clip you''ll love, if you haven''t seen it already. There''s a commercial that used part of this video, and I tried to find it awhile ago for the commercial thread, but couldn''t. Anyway, it''s absolutely priceless!

Oh Ellen, this video had me laughing so hard. Oh how I miss my grandboys baby laughter
39.gif
They would have me crying with laughter, the way they would laugh, if that makes any sense. HA!!! Thank you for posting that precious video.

snlee, I used to love to stand by the kids crib and just watch them sleep, and kiss their wittle heads.

Linda, glad you enjoyed it. You simply can''t watch it without the laughter catching!

My roses are kitties. I will drop what I''m doing and play with a kitty anytime. My own or someone else''s...I love cats!

Me too! Kittens and babies do it for me. I cannot help but smile and want to touch them. I would spend my whole day happily playing with kitties if they let me!

For me:

Playing with my grandboys
Stopping to chat with people, who have pets
Snuggling with our dog Mazie
Still teaching my parrot new words and having him give me kisses
Being by the ocean (and lucky Coati living by it)
9.gif

Like Ellen, watching a flock of geese fly by. The grandboys love to make honking sounds at them
23.gif

*I am spellbound by ladybugs and hummingbirds. They remind me of fairies.
1.gif

*I love to see fireworks, anytime. They bring joy to my soul, and I once backed into a stop sign trying to pull off of the road to watch them.

*Fathers playing with their kids. This always gets to me.

*new baby or puppy smell. Mmmmmmm!!!

*fresh snow or ice with no footprints yet, but I love the animal tracks!

*watching SO sleep peacefully

*watching my dog play/prance

*Sunsets/Sunrises

*old couples holding hands

*Stars every night when I take my dog out. Sometimes shooting stars too, if I am lucky

*autumn leaves

Nature''s beauty is the best for me. Seeing the fields look like spun gold in early autumn against the jewel colored leaves is nothing short of spectacular. I love to hear the wind whipping through the trees.

Stopping to count the dozens of deer standing next to a pond covered in snow white geese, seeing a little boy fishing with his dad for the first time and then holding the fish with a mixed look of awe and surprise, BIG snowflakes landing on my little boy''s face while his cheeks are red with cold, old-fashioned sleds cutting through the crisp snow and then dragging them back uphill, fireflies on warm summer nights-chasing them and watching them twinkle over the cornfields, Grandma holding a baby-stripping them down to look at what God has made, Yetta who used to sit next to me in Church and sing slightly off key but with all the joy in the World.

Ohhh! I forgot Carnivals! I would blow off pretty much anything I had to do to go to a cheesy carnival with terrifying crickety rides and funnel cake. And I am getting old, because the rides make me queasy now, but I just love, love, love a carnival! And wasting your money on the games that rob you blind! Nothing better.

And SO likes to indulge my carnival obsession, he always encourages me to go!

What an awesome thread.

I always look up at the sky. It's just so infinite and I feel like I am peeking at God looking down on us all. Sometimes I say, "Hey God, nice sunset!" Of course, I say that in my mind. Sometimes I swear it's like God's showing off when he takes his big brush and paints an incredible sky. Gotta give the big dude up there props when He outdoes himself. Hahaha.

I always stop for an animal to say hi, they are without a doubt my rose.

I have a lot of "roses." FI always tells me that a big part of why he loves me is that I truly appreciate some of the "simple things." I love and always stop for:

- Dogs of all kinds
- Any other animals (well, not bugs)
- Babies--I love when I get them to smile back at me
- Delicious treats, like candy, ice cream, cotton candy, cookies
- Beautiful flower gardens
- Soft things, like blankets, stuffed animals, or furry slippers
- Small gifts I think are perfect for my loved ones--no occasion necessary
- Sunsets
- Starry nights
- The mountains, especially when they get a fresh dusting of snow

For me its two things:

1. doggies and kitties - as I''m sure you all know, I''m a complete sucker for them, and I always have to at least stop for a moment and say hi (just long enough to have the owners asking themselves who the crazy lady is...)

2. really beautiful flowers - I always have to stop and look/smell, and if I have my camera, I have to pull it out and try to get a shot

My "roses" include:

-babies and little children, whether they laugh or cry, they are so precious!
-furry animals
-the moon especially when it is a full moon
-stars, especially on a cloudless night
-a lovely piece of music or song
-a beautiful or stylish woman (yeah, strange I know, I enjoy looking at other women more than men
20.gif
. I like seeing other beautiful women and go "wow, she is very good looking/stylish/elegant/classy etc).

I love this thread. Thanks, Ellen.

My roses are:

- Animals, domestic and wild. There are a lot of huge deer in our neighborhood, and my little pup Bailee and I often run into several during our early-morning walks. She sits and stares like a good girl, and I do the same thing standing. They''re incredible. And did I mention huge? I also really love dogs. When DH lived on Lake Shore Drive we spent most of our Saturdays and Sundays walking along the lake and meeting other people''s doggies. (I particularly love driving behind cars with happy dogs bouncing around in the back.)

- Snow blankets. I love the way fresh snow looks right after it falls. (I also love that ''the snow blanketed the earth'' is a simile that does not use ''like'' or ''as''.) And then I love watching Bailee plow through the snow and tear around our yard like a wild woman. She looks so happy.

There are more, but at the moment those two are at the top of my list. I''ll stop for animals and snow any time.
Ohh Have,

I would like to add snow too!

Coati, you reminded me of storms - I really don't like an actual storm (yanno, living in Tornado alley, etc), but the hour or so before when the sky starts to turn a little darker, and there's this thicker, sweet smell (my dad once explained to me that it has to do with the changing pressure, and that you're actually smelling clouds or something - I didn't want to pay attention because I felt like it would ruin the magic) - and all of the bugs and birds seem to be much, much louder - I love it when these happen in the late afternoon in the summer, so I can just sit on my porch, so I can breathe in, and listen.

Nature is just full of these...thinking about storms in summer just made me think of the first time you see lightning bugs coming up from the grass at dusk.

Grr....it's only January, and this thread is making me desperate for warmer weather...

Me too! Women are just better to look at than men! Plus I think there are a lot more good looking women than there are men. I always have several girl crushes!

Great thread Ellen!

Mine are similiar to what others have written, but (in no particular order):

Storms
Sunsets/sunrises
Flowers/plantlife - love to stop and sit in a park when I see a nice one. All the better if it has running water/a pond.
Dogs
Music I love - will sit in the car to finish listening to a song I''m fond of.

All critters ( wild and domestic).

Water, lakes, ponds, sea.

Hearing my Husband laugh or watch him be amused, he is so funny!

Starry skies.

Snow

Singing birds

Sunsets

Seeing the first of my barn swallows return home in the spring - never ceases to amaze and delight me.

My favorite slow-downs and ''appreciate the moments'': thunderstorms (especially at the beach when you can see the rain sheets over the water); snow falling at night with just enough light so that you can see it billowing around; toddlers chasing after anything, but especially bubbles!; reading by the fire when it''s miserable outside; and best of all, watching my kids when they are sleeping.
1.gif

MonkeyPie, kittens seem to be a fave. They are so cute, I need to talk hubby into one somehow....

Linda, lol That's hilarious the boys honk at the geese.
9.gif
And I bet that parot is awesome, how many words does he know??

trill, I LOVE ladybugs, aren't they sweet? We have, in the last couple years, had an imposter show up (in the house). At first glance, they look just like a ladybug, but upon closer inspection, they are more orange-ish, and apparently from what othe people have said, they will chew through anything wood. So I have to squish them.
40.gif

something, you listed some great ones. Nature nerver fails!

Bliss, I had to laugh about about the sky compliment. It reminded me of when my middle one was about 3 years old. We were at a big summer family gathering. Most of us were sitting outside, and he walked out of the house, looked up at the sky, put his arms up and said very enthusiastically, "hello sky!". Cutest thing I've ever seen.
9.gif

bee, lots of animal lovers on here!

kitty, aren't mountains awesome? I visted my sis once when she was living in Idaho, and we spent a week camping in them, without a tent btw. One of THE best times of my life.

Amber, do you have a favorite flower?

simply, I will look at a stylish woman!

2, I don't know that I'd say men are better to look at, but I agree there's definitely more good looking women than men, at least around here. That reminds me of another though, a nice looking man in a suit.
30.gif
LOVE suits.

aj, I have sat in the car many a time to finish a song!

Lorelei, that was touching about your hubby laughing.
5.gif

babysteps, I can watch babies doing anything, aren't they facinating?

I'm so glad to see so many appreciate the little things. This world has become so fast paced....

Love this thread!

Count me into the "stars" crew... I live in the city, and it absolutely blows my mind when I go somewhere where there''s not any city lights glaring at the sky... I went camping last summer in the mountains and it seems like there''s a zillion more stars there than here at home.

I also love people watching. I love seeing old couples being sweet to each other. One time FI and I were shopping and there was an old man standing outside the women''s fitting room carrying a purse. FI says to the man something like "I guess that doesn''t change no matter how old you are", and the man laughed and said (quite seriously) "After 47 years of marriage, I''m happy enough waking up and seeing her everyday... If carrying her purse makes her happy, I''m more than obliged" Too cute!
