I'm having a really tough time deciding on which shape to go with (for a 2.5ct diamond). Originally I thought round, because of the sparkle factor, but now I am thinking maybe asscher or something else. Which shapes do you think look best (and sparkle!)? The only ones I don't like for sure are pear and marquis.

I'm in the same boat but not in a 2.5ct  range Have you looked at the videos on GoodoldGold's website? they help tremendously. I have loved the August Vintage cushion or Asscher, and because I wanted my Hubby's voice on this last diamond purchase (hopefully) he has seen the videos and he likes the Asscher a lot! so I am going with Asscher's. Anyhow, I think it also helps if you saw them in person. I once tried on a 2 ct asscher but very low color and love love love love it! so I've been obsessed over them for over a year and half. Good luck. excited to see what you get.

I would go see an asscher in person. They look stunning in photos, but to me fall very flat in real life. I like princesses with v-prongs because they still have great sparkle (when cut well) but don't have the high contrast of rounds.

funny thing is I've had an Ideal cut Princess cut, and as I get older, my taste have changed, and I really like step cuts, you have to figure out what kind of "sparkles" do you like? and couple that with the shape? those are some hard assessment and some good soul searching, I feel your pain...lol

Round or pear, the best coverage at that size I think? I love both shapes so that's what I'd choose. I also love AVC cushions, but they would face up smaller, and that would give me DSS where the other 2 shapes probably wouldn't. Asschers draw the eye inward and seem smaller although I love the look of them in a 5 stone ring.

I would do a cushion or a round (maybe an omc, oec or trans).

definitely a visit in person - sq emeralds and rounds are about as different as it gets!

I like both, especially in larger sizes, but the face-up spread of the round would make the argument for me.

Its a very personal choice. You are the only person who knows what looks right for you. If I was buying it would be an OEC or vintage cushion from GOG.

I would advise you to go and try as many on as possible so you can find out what makes your heart sing :))

Samara, what's your finger size? Certain shapes, like asschers, face up very small for their carat weight. So if you have a small finger, want a 2.5 ct., but don't want the 2.5 to look overwhelmingly huge on you, I'd recommend an asscher. If you have a larger finger size and want to maximize coverage, I believe ovals and rounds are the best for maximizing spread, so go with those.

Personally I would go with a cushion, but that is just me. While I love the asscher and most step cuts the draw back with them is that they face up smaller. So if finger coverage is what you want- i would go with another cut. However, the asscher's are beautiful! I have several CS asschers over 3cts- yes CS has spoiled me in regards to size.

I vote emerald cut :twirl:

In that size I vote cushion.

A gorgeous chunky cushion

I'm typically a RB girl.. but that size would be my ideal cushion size.

OOOOH I would choose a elongated antique chunky cushion. Yummy :appl: :appl: :appl:

+1 :)

Cushion or oval. The fancies start to look realll nice at that size.

Besides a round, I'd go with an August Vintage Cushion from GOG.

I would choose a round.

Normally, I would say RB or cushion, but Pheonix has been considering selling back a huge haloed pear that is simply breathtaking!!! I might say pear now for something really distinctive and eyecatching.
