What should one expect to pay for a very nice color, round 1 ct sapphire to be used as a solitaire?

I would like to purchase a very nice blue sapphire to put in my old engagement ring setting. I am using a setting that previously held a 6.69-6.73-4.16 mm 1.14 ct round diamond, and I want to make sure it will fit. I would appreciate suggestions for vendors, where to learn more about color saturation ,and possibly a price range – I have NO IDEA what a nice sapphire would cost. I prefer a lighter sapphire, I do not like the almost black, opaque stones at all.

Thanks for your help!

You going to need one in the 1.5ct range to get the size you need.
sapphire is heavier for any given volume than diamond.
Pricing: $.50 for the cheapest created to $10000+ for the finist untreated cut by someone like Richard Homer.

Treysar, here''s an old thread about sapphires:

For really nice gems, my favorite sites to drool over are cherrypicked.com -- a lot of their stock is sold but you can put in a request for them to help you find a stone. Also, if you like a sapphire that''s been sold, you can still add it to your cart and it will show you how much it cost.

Also, palagems.com (doesn''t show prices -- you have to go through a vendor. But their selection is yummy!)

Light blue ones are less expensive than the ideal medium blue.

For example, these two are of abotu the same size and offered by the same vendor-

$345

SAP-00564.htm

$875

But, then, again, really dark ones are the cheapest of all, and definitely not what you want.

Sapphires are harder to find in round. If you like round and truly *light* blue, you may have to search a bit...

Prices will range widely based on treatment, etc.

I've found Daniel Stair to be very reasonable (not to mention the great cutting):
http://www.customgemstones.com/
A sapphire in a good color and that size will run about $300-350

or if you have a higher budget and want something very unique, Richard Homer:
http://www.concavegems.com
A sapphire in a good color and that size will run $850-1500

I own multiple stones from each, and they've never disappointed.
