This necklace was made by Stephen Dweck. Is the stone a citrine or quartz or something else entirely? I''d appreciate any advice.

metal?

I agree Julie looks like gold to me. Nicely etched, carved etc....

It''s definitely not metal -- the stone is a clear crystal of some kind, with a touch of gold or yellow coloring. You can see through it. Perhaps I should take another photo -- the images on my first post were scanned on a flatbed scanner.

Excellent idea, ger100. I will email him and hopefully get a response. In the meantime, I''ve taken a couple of more pictures that hopefully provide a better view of what the stone/gem looks like. This time I used a digital camera rather than a flatbed scanner.

Why don''t you email him?

I agree it looks like amber.

What ever is is it is very pretty....Could it be glass of some kind?

I htink that makes sense, amber or agate or glass, it just does not seem that it could be a gem stone to me...

Hi again. The photos I provided do not really capture what the centerpiece looks like. I''ve now seen a few similar pieces by Stephen Dweck online, and I believe this is a Rock Crystal with something yellow/gold behind it -- possibly citrine. I might post a few links to other pieces I found. The descriptions state they are rock crystal or quartz. When I hold this piece to light, and turn it to the side, the stone is appears practically colorless. BTW, the necklace itself looked bronze to me, but the round end has the word "STERLING" imprinted in it. I''ve emailed Stephen Dweck but have not yet received a response. I plan to visit a jeweler tomorrow for another opinion.

Here is one link to a Stephen Dweck necklace with a large rock crystal:

Keep us posted. It looks like glass with foil behind it to me. I see what appears to be a bubble suspended in it in the lower center. That suggests glass but I can''t say for sure without handling the piece. Interesting...

Yes, there is a good chance this is cut glass. I wish I could find a similar piece on the internet somewhere. I''ll post back here when I have more information.
