So I bought this Zircon and received it yesterday from AJSGems and now I''m undecided what to do with it. Originally I was thinking a pendant or some other sort of necklace but now after seeing it in person I''m thinking I''d rather have it in a ring. Any ideas? It''s a 3.94 carat and it''s 8.3mm x 8.3mm (and I have 7.5 size fingers). And, er, try to ignore the dust and fingerprints on my photo. :)

Wow ! Does it look anything like the pictures in person ? Very nice color !

It should endure nicely in a ring, especailly if you will not be wearing it day in and day out. Set low on the finger with some sidestones or otherwise protected from all-around exosure to impact it would be both very safe and very nice, IMO.

Congratulations for the find, and for the unusual choice of gemstone

Design ideas do not come very easy not knowing what you might like at all - there is simply too much out there. One comes to mind off the bat because of my own preferences (not fair, of course). This is a copper colored stone and the color, how about setting it in gold of matching shade ? The picture above exagerates the tint a bit, but not much: that is supposed to be pink gold and it is pink-looking if polished. Brushed it definitely looks copper-like, not that anyone might suspect that it is pure copper used in jewelry

Nice Zirc! And welcome to the joys(?) of gem photography, LOL.

A pendant might be a better idea for your stone. While very pretty as rings they don''t hold up to wear well. The facet junctions have a tendency to chip.

I think it is a beautiful sonte.. Personally I LOVE gifts!!! You can send it to me at

OK OK>.. I think that a ring would look GREAT!!! Tha is a wonderul sixe and would make quite a unique ring.

But something to think about... I have heard many people that have Zircons say that they are fine for rings, but they have to be repolished and gat little nicks, some say they are too soft and other say that as long as you aare careful than you will be fine. I don''t think there is a prob. with the pendant though.

But I am sure some experts will jump in here!!!

Good luck.. It is beautiful.. LOVE the coloR!!!!!

It could probably work as a ring especially if it''s a "fashion" piece that you don''t wear everyday. As for design, maybe check out stuller.com or adwar.com to see if there''s anything stock settings you like. I understand that they''re well-made and not too expensive and some in many great styles.

what lovely color!!!!

how about a ring with the stone''s girdle in a bezel but the pavillion still left open on the bottom? or perhaps even a full bezel? it does seem that it is going to need some protection.

i love the shape of this stone also!

(for some reason the picture wouldn''t get attached to the previous post - it belongs there)

This might not be your style... I thought it would help to see a stone of similar color set.

Even if such settings do not come off the rack, they are not much of a challenge.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, gorgeous stone!

It does have that coppery flash to it when it hits the light. Looks somewhat darker when it''s not directly in the light.

I was thinking yellow gold, but that brushed pink gold looks very nice too. I tend to like more traditional styles. Nothing too modern or too fussy.

Some of those settings from Stuller are very nice. I rather like this one:

So one has to find a jeweler who carries that line (sorry for the silly questions but I''m really new at this)?

That is gorgeous! What a color. You could always wear it as a pendant for a little while and then turn it into a ring. If it were me, I''d want to stare at it all day, which means ring. I''m not a big fan of the full bezel, personally - l''d want to see more of the stone. I love Ana''s idea of using a pink or copper colored metal.

If I did a pendant then I would want something that gave it a bit more substance. Something along the lines of this:

only without all those diamonds; maybe just 4 at the cardinal points.

i, too, am not a big full bezel fan although i would do it if necessary with the right stone. i''d want to protect the girdle on this zircon though. and the idea of a ''color'' gold is brilliant!!!! can''t wait to see this ''set''.

Iv had an eye on that one but alas no cash.
Enjoy and wear it in good health :}
