Hello. I posted a few months ago when I was in the process of upgrading my engagment ring. Now, I need help with what to do with my original oval. It is a .72 carat F, SI2. Purchased 10 years ago by my DH who didn''t have any idea what he was doing. In any case, now I would like to have it reset. Not sure if I should do a RHR, pendant or something else. Does anyone have any thoughts?????

Thanks for your help.

I think that is a nice size for a pendant!

i think it looks beautiful just as it is. would you consider just getting it sized and wearing it on your right hand?

I did consider wearing it as a RHR as is, but my old wedding band was a 5 stone bar set band and it chewed into the prongs. I don''t know if there is any way to fix the prongs to make sure the stone stayes secure. I also wonder about wearing a gold ring on one hand and white rings on the other.

If I did do a pendant, would you just set it as a solitaire, or do the halo around the oval? I haven''t found a lot of pictures online of what an oval halo pendant might look like.

If you want to wear it as a right hand ring, why not set it in a similar setting in white metal with maybe sapphires flanking it?

As a pendant I think I would set it alone with maybe three small round diamonds in a triangle over the bale.

I think it would be pretty as a pendant set east west, not halo''d but with a basket setting and the chain attached to the setting...in platinum or white gold, should be really neat that way!

I think it''s the perfect size for a pendant. I''d do a classic solitaire pendant that will never go out of style. Gorgeous!

I would definetly set it in a halo for a RHR. A halo will make it seem less engagement ring and more RHR/cocktail ring. I would love another diamond for my right hand! Plus, being the sentimental sap that I am, I would want my original e-ring diamond close to me at all times. So for me, a necklace would not get as much use as a RHR.

This is what I was going to suggest too! Even half bezel e-w!

I just reset my original diamond into a halo rhr. I went back and forth as you are, but in the end, I really wanted it in a ring for sentimental reasons. I considered side stone sapphires as someone else mentioned, but found the perfect halo so I went with that. I was also nervous about putting in to a necklace as I was afraid that I might lose it. I guess I just felt more secure with a ring.

Good luck finding something!

What do you think of something like this??

A halo like the one above would be perfect for a RHR!!! But for a pendant, I''d do a classic solitaire.

I have never seen this, but I think it would be so lovely.... I''d love to see a nice white oval like that in a halo of very very light sapphires - not so green like a topaz and not so faint in those small sizes as aquas, but just the lightest sapphires you can find in a halo around the diamond, like a gorgeous rainbow cloud in the sky... you could mount it as a pendant e-w or n-s and you don''t have to be so corny as to go around saying look it''s a puffy white cloud in the sky, but I still think it would be lovely :) and unique too!

if you get a pendant made, make sure it has enough mass so it doesn't "flip". very annoying.

north south with a largish bale with a spare (round? triangular?) diamond stuck in it to give it a long look.

i like all the ideas!

simple bezel pendant, wear it everyday or for evening. It wouldn''t be too expensive either.

I agree! If you were to do a RHR a halo or some gemstone sidestones would be lovely!!!!

Thanks everyone for your input. I love the halo that jayrenay9 posted. Where did you find it?

Has anyone every seen an oval as a solitaire pendant? I also like lumpkins suggestion of three round stones at the top of the pendant in a triangle. I have round stones from the wedding band, so I could incorporate everything (minus two round stones) from the original set into a new setting. Not sure if the size of the rounds would work since they are .25 each. May be too overwhelming to the oval.

Any other thoughts?

I''ve seen that halo at Diamonds by Lauren...
What do you plan on doing with your old ring setting? It is classic, and if the prongs could be fixed, would you reuse the setting with another stone?

Wearing two different colors is just fine, I wear rose gold on one hand, platinum on the other...

If I keep the setting, I would probably leave the oval in it. I do like the setting and want to wear the stone, just wanted to explore other ideas. I will have to talk to a jeweler to see if I can save the prongs.

Yes, it is from Diamonds By Lauren, so you couldn''t actually get that exact setting. Have you seen the oval halo from Ritani?

LOVE these ideas. I have children born the same month (March) so Cehra''s idea really appeals to me.

I also like the idea of an E/W pendant.

I haven''t really paid attention to pendants before. I think I''ve seen ovals used in slide pendants tho. Start looking around and we will too.
