Hello,

Sorry if there has been a thread about this already, I couldn't find one with a quick search

With your help here I bought a BGD 0.918 H SI1 AGS 000 to set with tapered baguettes to upgrade from my JA 0.65 J VS1 GIA XXX solitaire.

Now I cant decide what to with the old diamond and ring.. should I sell the ring online? Trade it in with the jeweler (I have to match the trade in price which minus the setting price will leave me with a bit leftover to buy another piece of jewelry if I like)? Should I have a pendant made or buy another matching diamond to make earrings?

I picked out the original diamond and obviously its special to me but I'm not super super sentimental

What did you do with your old diamond/ring?

Thank you :)

Completely different for everyone. I just converted mine to one stud and bought a matching. I wasn't going to sell a perfectly decent diamond when I could make it into more bling for me. Some people would rather have the money so they sell. Or maybe they want a pendant. Depends entirely on you.

Make a pendant if you dont have one. I consider studs or a pendant to be items in a basic jewelry wardrobe so I would go with either of those
if you dont have them yet.

I'm current having my unworn trilogy ring converted into a pair of bezel set studs and a bezel set slider pendant.

That all comes down to you. I'm super sentimental, and I'd use it for myself, either in a reset, or as a stud or pendant. I'm big on heirloom ideas to pass on to my daughter & step-daughter. Even to give to my son for his future bride, if he desires, some day....

I still have my original 1 ct diamond ring and have not reset due to the fact it is not as well cut as the diamonds I have now. But if it was, I would have reset in a pendant or earrings. It is a good size for either one.

I kept mine mostly because it isn't excellent cut, and you get so little for selling them second hand unless they are excellent/ideal cut (plus, my husband is more sentimental about it than I am, and he probably would not be happy if I sold it). I likely will end up making a pendant with it for one of my daughters.

In your case, if you don't already have studs or a pendant, I can't see losing money on selling it when you could use it for one of those purposes. I'd get a match and make studs, personally, and then later maybe get a .75 or so for a pendant, if you want one.

I created a pendant and loved it!

With one diamond ring, I had another one made, adding more diamonds, and used the old diamond in the design for sentimental reasons.
Another diamond I also recycled into a new ring. I'm all for repurposing the gems which one has, and especially with diamonds because they have a poor resale value, unfortunately.
