Hi all, I am *almost* in the market for a “back up” diamond. I currently have a 1.7 round cut natural diamond but since insurance costs me around $400/year, im thinking of not renewing it next year and just get a “I won’t feel as bad if I lose it” lab diamond for everyday wear. I’ve heard that a good radiant cut sparkles more than a round cut since it has more facets. Is that true? If it is, what should I look for in terms of specs?? I want an elongated radiant. My finger size is 3.75.

@Kim N do you think you can help me on this one? :)

I've never heard that a radiant sparkles more. I think an ideal cut round is likely the sparkliest diamond type/cut. Either way, I only judge fancy cuts on an individual basis rather than by the numbers

In the right lighting a well cut crushed ice radiant will put out 10x+ the number of sparkles of a similar surface area ideal cut RB.
In other lighting the Ideal cut RB can look multiple times as bright overall as the radiant in the same lighting.

My opinion is that radiants have to be seen to pick out the good ones and I worked for a while for a vendor who I would consider one of the best to do that so I have a conflict of interest here.
