Did you ever sell/upgrade something you wish you''d kept? Pass on something you wish you would have bought? Gone smaller on a non upgradeable stone? Get the wrong shape.

Recently I had occiaions to replace my three stone ring with a solitaire. I chose a non upgradeable princess cut diamond from BGD. It''s beautiful and the mounting is perfectly executed. I thought it would stop me from ever wanting anything else HOWEVER, for the past couple of weeks, I have been seeing all of the rounds posted and I''m kind of wishing I would have gone with a round. It''s ridiculous, and there''s nothing I can do about it, and I do love my princess.. I guess this is why there are people with a "collection" of rings. in the big scheme of things, I am beyond blessed and I feel silly even posting this, but I am so here it is!

damn, no way to edit the title and I know there was supposed to be question mark at the end! Sorry.

Sometimes I question if I shouldn't have gone with an asscher as my ring's center stone, but it's not really a regret. I just love sparkle and the asscher is a lot more understated than I realized.

Sizzle, your ring is so beautiful - seriously, I've gone back to your thread more than once, just to admire quietly. I understand the desire for variety, myself - there are so many beautiful shapes and colors out there! - so I'm opting for quality and quantity. My e-ring's a round, my pendant's a pear, and I'm already starting to sidle up to the notion of an ever-growing marquise RHR ....

If I had one regret, I'd say it was that none of my stones was effectively upgradable: I bought my e-ring before I discovered PS, and while I could upgrade my pear, I've set it in a heavy custom bezel! On the other hand, I think I'm too sentimental to ever want to switch the e-ring, so the possibility would just irk me at the back of my head, and, realistically speaking, any bigger than this and my pendant would be perhaps a little over-the-top for everyday. So I'd say the bigger regrets are for things I've gotten as gifts-gone-wrong ....

One of these days, I have got to take some shots of my paraiba tourmaline ring. It was a graduation gift from my folks for my Ph.D. I talked with my dad and the designer incessantly about what I wanted: a tight cluster of bezels and a sort of modern look. Instead? In the year it took to get made, it morphed into a delicately spready pronged piece. It looks like the 1940s threw up on a peacock! Awful. And, because it was a gift, my folks get sniffy whenever I talk about having it made into a pendant. Oy ....

Circe - I can relate to your comment about the one year turnover/change lol

Part of me thinks I would have been blissfully ignorant to just have the 3/4 carat oval in a channel set yellow gold setting like I originally sought... I''d have more money in the bank by many thousands and I wouldn''t want to spend more lol

I do wish I''d handled the making of my ring differently, I had no business dealing with a designer when I knew what I wanted.

If I were buying a stone now I''d probably get an AVC but it wasn''t an option at the time and what I have is pretty close considering. Oh, and I wish I''d gotten my ring in white gold and not platinum.

OK, I went outside and looked at my diamond in the sun, and it''s fabulous again.

Not buying my last diamond first.

I could have saved so much money.

Oh honey, your ring is beyond fabulous!!! Fabulous was the neighborhood you left behind. The facetting on your new princess is just...... (can''t think of enough of a word).

When you''re feeling doubtful about your choice, just let me know and I''ll give a quick and light smack in the back of your head! That will snap you right out of it!

Trading a quite nice 2 C for what I thought was a better cut 1.5 C. Not enough difference to justify the downsizing. The jeweler is out of business now and I try not to dwell on it because it really bothers me if I do. A year ago I had it set in a halo I really loves which helps somewhat.

Mine is not knowing that Pricescope, with all its really valuable info, was here before I bought my upgrade. I went with a ''mind clean'' stone which is lovely, but I could have saved $$ on an equally gorgeous diamond with lower colour and clarity.

Overall, I really do love my wedding set, but there are a couple things I''d change if possible. My engagement ring is a RB with side pears and I wish we had gone with bigger side stones. The other thing that I kind of regret is not getting the wedding band that I really wanted. We bought the one we did because the design was recommended by the vendor (it has a slight curve to it that I''m not crazy about).

I regret that I don''t have more jewelry.

I lost an ebay auction for .75tcw 8-prong martini ready-set-go whiteflash diamond stud earrings 2 weeks ago. I regret not bidding higher. Someone bid on them in the last 5 seconds to snatch them from me... what a dream-crusher. They got them for just over $400.... how ridiculous is that? This was a few weeks ago and it still bothers me daily...

I wanted them so badly.

I regret that I don''t have more jewelry.

+1!!!!!!

There was an ebay auction a couple of months ago for a sapphire band in plat. My size, used.

I like to think about ebay purchases for a while, but I wish I''d just gone with my gut! It went for $180 I believe, and I''ve been stalking ebay ever since but there''s nothing remotely similar.

My only regret is not "getting into" jewelry sooner. And not finding PS sooner. I have ugly hands, thin nails, and never saw much jewelry that I liked so I missed out on years of jewelry purchases when DH said, "Let me buy you some jewelry for Christmas, birthday, etc." Now I don't care what my hands look like. I love jewelry, diamonds, antiques, gemstones but only have so many birthdays left!!

I have two.

1 - that I don''t love my engagement ring. We researched the best we knew how but ended up going with a jeweller who doesn''t stand behind their product (Fay Cullen) so it''s a diamond we thought would be nicer in a poorly sized by them setting, all non-refundable. I didn''t want to want to upgrade my engagement ring. I didn''t want to feel disappointed when I look at it. DH deals with the situation by not thinking about it (upgrade is out of the question, he''s sentimental) and I deal with the disappointment by not wearing my engagement ring often.

2 - and very small in comparison. At a charity sale there was a beautiful antique diamond and sapphire eternity band in my size. I wish I''d asked to see it in better lighting. The price was very good and I passed on it because the engraving was too worn and the stones a bit unequal. I may have still not bought it, but if I''d taken another 5 minutes to chat to the woman and ask to see it in better light I wouldn''t still be thinking about it 2 weeks later.

I believe ive written about this before and im sure scopers will feel my pain...many years ago(i was 22)i answered a newspaper ad for the sale of a 3.21(or 3.12)carat round brilliant diamond for sale by owner. The diamond was close to ideal cut(g.i.a cert)and vvs with an e or f color....the lady was getting a divorce and wanted $6,000 for the stone. When i told her i could not afford it ,she called back a week later offering the stone for $1,000 per carat...i still couldnt scrap the money together and she sold it to a pawn shop!I still have night mares about that one!

I was going to say that!

I regret that we didn''t get a yellow diamond when we visited Diamonds by Lauren. DH wanted to, but I was on some bizarre economy drive or other. Stupid waste of a fantastic opportunity!

I regret not having enough money to buy beautiful jewelry.

Not a big huge regret, but I kinda wish I could have kept my first upgrade stone instead of trading it in for my last (current) upgrade. I loved that stone, it was gorgeous, but I went up a color and

.87points.

One- I wish I knew what happened to my original 2-ring; it was a 1940s illusion head soldered wedding set with a cool deco design- about .25 cttw, and cost $400ish. I miss it
8.gif
even though it doesn''t fit my ring finger anymore- I got it when I was a size 2 dress size and wore a 2 1/2 on my ring finger. Not hardly anymore, on either one!

Also I passed up a lovely eternity ring on ebay with the most fabulous engraving on the side I''ve ever seen before or since. It was probably Edwardian and had the most intricate scrollwork. Shoulda got it! Have never seen any engraving comparable- close to as neat but not quite.

I wish I had learned more about jewelry sooner - wish I''d found PS years ago :)

There was a BGD DBTY necklace on diamond bistro that I had my eye on but never bought. pisses my off everytime i think about it!

I wish I kept the original RB e-ring (with tapered baguettes) that my dh gave me. It''s such a classic clean timeless look.

I wish I had put a delicate micro pave halo and micro pave basket on my original stone. I was unhappy with original setting- the solution was so simple.

I should have done that years ago.

I wish I would have gone with my gut the first time - and that I had found antique stones long ago - I now have a small transitional cut diamond with two tapered baguettes in white gold and an 18k white gold band. I

it! bummer it took me 5 years and countless designs!

Absolutely!!! ...and then I was fired as a customer

. It turned out to be a good thing in the end though because later I saw a video of the ring and there was too much brown in that pink.

Well, it''s not really a regret since I had nothing to do with the purchase, but I wish my diamond studs were upgradeable. I''d love to go bigger than .5 ctw, but they were a wedding gift from my wonderful DH, and they don''t have an upgrade policy. I feel sort of sentimental about them, too. But at the same time, bigger and more sparkly is better, right? Le sigh.
