Okay that sounds like a really really really awesome job!!!

(Writing up my thesis, not doing anything irreputable!)

*chokes on drink* Thanks for that.

I choked too!

I work in labor and delivery and a local hospital. I''m a nurse and work the 7p-7a shift. Some nights I spend 12 hours on the computer, some nights I never sit down. Always something new!

I''m a library assistant in a regional public library system. It''s actually quite an active job. I''m getting my masters to be a ''real'' librarian, too, so it''s pretty fun to work with other professionals.

I''m really a textile/jewellery designer - or that''s what I trained as and did for 11 years.

I''m currently masquerading as Head of Fundraising for a major political party, and I''m also an elected politician for my area of London where I''m one of the people in charge of Planning, which I love.

Being London, we get some really exciting projects and world-class buildings - and I get my mini-power trip!

I work as a software designer for a major corporation designing healthcare software. Most of the time I work from the comfort of my living room :-)

I''m the Director of Inside Sales for a software company that does automated lifecycle management for Enterprise Resource Planning software.

Hey! How is Lukah doing? Is he improving? I''ve been hoping you''ve got some good news!

By the way, I really envy the fact that you can work from your living room! I don''t think I could teach from home although some days I''d like to try.

By the way, Delster, how long does your thesis have to be? Mine has to be 20,000 words.
14.gif
Sorry gwendolyn I only just saw this - it has no upper limit. Guideline minimum is about 90,000 words. My supervisor favours shorter, figures it makes for a more disciplined argument, so I''m aiming for 100,000 and then we''ll edit back.

What''s your thesis topic?

Mine''s on teacher understandings of inclusive education (am studying special needs). Seems easy-peasy compared to 100,000 words, oi! Are you doing a PhD or is this a law thing? (Lawyers in the US don''t have to write monster papers, at least the law students I''m friends with, but I know some here in the UK have to...I think.

)

It''s my PhD. We don''t do any empirical research or statistical analysis though, if that makes it any better! Just lots and lots of reading and analysing...

I did have to do some big writing assignments for my law degrees - 15,000 word dissertation on my undergrad, and a 30,000 word one on my masters. But we never had the kind of workload that I think law students have in the States. Apart from those I think I probably had about ten assignments total in the entire five years those degrees took. Now my professional degree was a whole other story...
14.gif

Your dissertation sounds really interesting! And I have to say, based on your posts on here, I know you have to be just the most wonderful teacher ever

Awesome! My supervisor loaned me her PhD dissertation which is 300+ pages and probably about a 100K words. YIKES. Not sure I''ll ever do one! Here (at Cam anyway, not sure about elsewhere) it''s usually a 3-year PhD programme and the 2nd year is spent entirely in the field gathering data. Not sure I''ll ever do one--have to see if I survive this master''s degree first.

Oh really? Yeah, my lawyer friends back home had tons of intense testing and stuff. Not sure of the details, but I know they aged about 10 years in those 3 they spent in law school. For me, this is the first big writing assignment I''ve had to do since my English class freshman year of college (which was a joke so it doesn''t really count). My bachelor''s is in instrumental music education, so I just played an hour-long concert for my ''final exam.'' I think I enjoyed myself a lot more than most folks writing big papers or taking tests.

Aww, thanks, babe! I really love to help kids become more independent, think for themselves, and realize their strengths, which is why I think I ended up in special education. This year has been hard on me--I miss my kidlets! I''ll be very glad to be working with them again in a few months.

There''s quite a few lawyers and legal-related professionals here! I''m in between - just finished law school, now studying like mad for the bar.

I noticed that, too! The world will always need lawyers, and they will inevitably need support staff!

I work for the government -- I deal with real estate. I find it interesting, but do not like the stress of dealing with people in the capacity that I do sometimes. When I move to SO''s city this summer, I''ll be doing the same job with a slightly different sort of property.

I don''t work-- but I will have to.. soon! (Who else is going to afford this damn wedding?)

I am a nurse doing 730-730 (sometimes starting in the am, more often the overnight 12 hours)

So i can relate to those who say sometimes its quiet and sometimes they dont sit down (or at least not until about 530am in my case..)! ... but i have NEVER in over 10 years of nursing spent a whole shift on the computer... but i work in acute medicine (switching to surgery in july eek) so there''s always someone vomiting, dying, spiking a nasty fever, etc.

I also teach nursing part time, I generally like talking with new nurse wannabees and think i''m pretty good and at least dont discourage them lol

To those currently working on their masters or phd, I just discovered this site very recently (as i recently have the need to search for ring info.), and i''m sure glad i didn''t know about this site when i was a master''s student.. i can only imagine how much time i would have spent on this instead of my thesis lol... but i''m sure you ladies manage, we do need a break sometimes!

My first post, yay!...
figures that it would be something job related. That im VERY comfortable talking about, ring shoppping, despite it being REALLY cool, kinda stresses me out lol (i like the ring idea, just not the idea of snooty sales people and especially not haggling for prices.. that''s so not me

I'm a nurse at a local hospital. NICU is my love. I'm trained to do Labor and Delivery, but its not my fav. I'd rather take care of a precious little baby than the mom that will sue you for not having an orange soda STAT.

Uhhh yeah! Lol i just finished my 2nd year of law school and this site has become such a huge distraction (but a welcome one)! when I took "breaks" I''d check out new posts and find pics of rings I like, I like to think it helped keep me sane, but I won''t be surprised if my GPA drops a few points lol.

Yeah sometimes I seriously question what was I thinking embarking on this PhD lark. Well I know what I was thinking but that's a long story. Back when I started it I needed to do it, but not so much any more. It's a bit complicated. Anyway it'll never hurt me to have a PhD!

I think the big difference with law degrees over here is they're undergrad degrees. You can't take the bar after a law degree in Ireland, there's another two years of study + training still to go after the BCL/LLB. And of course, undergrad degrees in Arts/Humanities over here are very laid back. The odd essay. Attendance non-compulsory. You're handed a reading list at the start of term and it's pretty much 'do your own thing' after that!

I did music for my Leaving Cert (like A Levels) - I loved it!

Here too! I just finished my 1st year of law school, 3 mroe to go (I''m doing the joint degree program for my JD/MHA). I hope to be corporate counsel for a health care organization in the future. I will be working at a law firm in Indy all summer & parttime during the year. I just hope it''s all worth it! Anyone wanna help me with my law review application?

Retail Buyer for Macy''s.

Delster, tee hee, you ARE hiding your face though!!!!

Freke, shoe store? NO WAY. JK. Did that start you on the road to shoe lustdom? Or did you go there because of it?

I''m a self employed (freelance) creative director / fashion stylist.

I only work part time while I''m finishing the final year of my degree...

It sounds a bit frivolous compared to everyones grown up jobs... but I love it

I was thinking the same thing!!

I''m a scrub/scout/anaesthetic/recovery/dabbled in management (what a mouthful!
14.gif
) nurse in the operating theatre suite of our city''s major private hospital. I love the variety and pace of theatre, and there''s always something unexpected popping up, inside and outside the suite. Heck just yesterday I headed down to the cafeteria to grab some lunch and found myself on an arrest team attempting to resuscitate a poor little old lady who had a cardiac arrest on the ground in the carpark at the hospital! Dear old thing.
7.gif
I found myself giving orders to the hospital CEO (who is not very medically inclined!) to run back and forth for us... now that was different!

It''s fun to see what everyone does for a living.

I am a nurse too - in an intermediate ICU. Permanant nights (7p-7a). It is absolutely grueling sometimes. But rewarding, all the same.

Dandi, that''s funny about the CEO. I can just imagine! I take it the lady didn''t make it?

I sell medical devices in the OR. Its not for everyone but I love it!
