Yes, I know I would. Even though my birthstone is sapphire, I love emeralds. You are a very thoughtful boyfriend.

Yes, emerald is my birthstone and I would love to have one someday. I will probably get a ring though because I don''t wear necklaces a lot. The pendant is really pretty.

gixxer: do a search for "emerald" and you will see some threads that pertain to your post...

One particular website that has been mentioned a few times in those threads is twin-diamonds. I have browsed through on several occasions and found lots of info on emeralds and some nice loose emeralds. My birthday is in May as well, and for a 30th b-day present (next year) I have requested that my DH look into purchasing a 2ct emerald right hand ring for me.

I would love, love, love to have an emerald pendant someday, as well as matching earrings and bracelet. I think it''s a great idea that you are starting to build your lady''s birthstone collection.

My love of emeralds goes farther than it being my birthstone. Our favorite movie (one of the things we had in common the night we met) is Wizard of Oz-(Emerald City!). I also love the outdoors and green is always symbolic of the changing season and fertility/growth to me. It''s also a peaceful color which is vivid and joyful at the same time, and I love the fact that a "perfect" emerald fetches a higher monetary amount than a "perfect" diamond! If it weren''t my birthstone I don''t know that I''d feel this way, but it is, so I do!

Good luck with your search...please let us know what you end up purchasing, and feel free to post more questions. There are a few colored stone experts and aficionados here on PS who hopefully will be able to guide you better than I.

Isn''t twin diamonds located in Israel? Has anyone bought overseas before? Buying something that has to make it through customs would make me nervous. What are the extra fees associated with customs and has anyone had a ring held up through customs?

I bought from them years ago and had no problems at all. I don''t remember any extra fees involved...but it''s been a while.

You can always email them and ask. Actually, now that I think about it, I think unmounted gemstones can come in duty free, while finished jewelry can''t.

I DO remember not paying sales tax!

Hi Widget,

You are correct that there is no duty on loose stones but anything with a value of $2,000 or more needs someone to handle the paperwork. FedEx does this and charges about $50. Also you are responsible to pay your own State Sales Tax on the purchase.

Regards,
Maurice

Good info Maurice! Am I correct in assuming FedEx assumes that role only on its own shipments? The last batch of stones I brought in cost over $200 extra in import broker fees even with no duty. It took me half a day of chasing around LAX to find a broker who''d handle it. This sounds much better.

Hello Richard,

That is correct. They broker their own shipments.

Great info, Thanks. I'm not in the market now but good to know. Twindiamonds does have pretty things.

And to get back to the original topic-

I think an emerald pendant is a beautiful gift. I'm sure she will love it.
