Where should I search for simple wedding bands?

Looking for either:

a. Very simple wedding band for her, platinum (prefer 950 Pt/Ru or 900 Pt/Ir), to match/complement a Stuller Tiffany-style engagement ring (high setting)--no stones, no engraving, no patterns, etc. Approx. 2 mm

OR

b. A simple channel-style band with alternating diamonds and sapphires, not too many, on the upper 1/4 to 1/2 of the arc of the band only. No other patterning, engraving, etc. Also platinum, approx. 2 mm wide.

Suggestions for on line or in-store? I just ordered the engagement ring from Good Old Gold and have been asking them about bands, but it is slow going. Would shopping on line be easier / less expensive than in-store for bands, just as is the case with the engagement rings?

If you want a plain platinum band, I''d highly recommend getting Good Old Gold to order the one that would go with the e-ring.

If you want a channel set band, I''d look at Signed Pieces/Facets. I''ll look quick and see if they have one like you''re asking about.

3. Will a blingy wedding band (e.g. with diamonds and sapphires) distract from the gorgeous solitaire GOG 1.158 H SI1 AGS0 H&A in a simple, Tiffany-style setting that my gal deserves?

4. What does a smart PSer do in terms of checking cut quality of stones in a wedding band? Do I demand AGS/GIA certs and other reports and a huge amount of detail about the cut for every stone in the band in order to make a well-informed decision?

If you get a plain band, get it to match your solitaire setting. Then it''s easy. The shape of the band will be right and the alloys will match.

No, a diamond band is complimentary to a solitaire, I think. That is what I have, so I love it! With a stone your size, I wouldn''t go over about 7 points each in the wedding band. A 7 stone shared-prong band around .5 cts would be great, as one example.

Facets sells very nice quality diamonds in their rings, so that makes it easy. No, you don''t have certified stones in diamonds that small. You just have to know where you''re buying it from. Mine is by Memoire and I requested G VVS/VS stones as opposed to the standard VS/SI. Both use premium to ideal cut.

Possibly....why? Do you not like my odds? hahaha The proposal is pretty much waiting only for the engagement ring. Wedding to follow soon thereafter so I''d better be ready with the goods, I figure. No reason not to start shopping now.

Haha, no, I was just wondering - hopefully the odds are in your favor!

And if you can present the whole package then maybe you can get her to say yes, and get a quick wedding in there before she has a chance to change her mind!

Sometimes couples shop for bands together (sometimes they want to match them, sometimes they want to both have input into the bands), so it was truly just a question out of curiousity. If you are motivated and want to do the legwork then go for it! More power to you!

Ha ha. This has been a dual effort pretty much the whole way. I''ve done the vast majority of the research but we have visited stores together, and she has been patient as I have regaled her with tales of crown angles and dispersion and the names of the 58 facets. She has picked up on a ton just by listening to me. I made the final decision myself but she had given me a lot of parameters and inputs.

I''m doing the same with the wedding band. I''m researching both men''s and women''s bands but I will let her pick what she wants to get for me. I''ve given her my preferences. Maybe we can keep the bands a surprise for each other until the wedding day. I would have liked to keep the engagement ring a surprise also but couldn''t resist doing the shopping and decision-making together with her, and couldn''t resist showing her what I''d gotten after I ordered it.

I''m a matchy-matchy person myself for the most part, and IMO I would go with GOG who you''ve been working with for both your WB''s! To me, it would kind of ease the whole process and (hate this expression, but) kill two birds with one stone? Just my .02...
