This is the style she wants. I was thinking on either of these two rings. Is the Costco one worth $2,800 dollars more? Should I do the other one and upgrade the center stone? I looked through the recomended retailers and couldn''t find this style of ring. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Welcome!

I looked up the Ebay diamond's report, it isn't a 2.76 oval actually but a 1.26ct. The way it is worded makes it appear that the centre diamond weighs 2.76 carats, it is probable that the total carat weight of the entire ring is 2.76 carats. Either way I would pass as we know nothing about this vendor and if you do a search for Ebay you can read of others experiences when buying diamonds on Ebay, there are some reliable vendors but you need to know who to shop with. Also it is a fair bet that a K colour oval might show some slight to perceptible tint or body colour.

So to answer your thread title as to which one, my vote is for neither!!! If you want to buy online, have you looked at any of the trusted PS vendors to see what they can offer you?

Thanks- I went through the ps vendors (took me about 2 hours) I could not find anything close. Should I email them the pictures and see if they have anything close? Thanks again!

Might not be a bad idea. You may have to go custom, but it would probably be a lot nicer than the two you posted. I wouldn''t but from someone without knowing a LOT more details, including cut quality.

Ritani makes a ring like that - you can find them through the PS vendor Pearlman''s Jewelers. I think in the picture it is shown with a round stone, but you can ask them to make it with an oval. Also, probably DimendScaasi could make it for you, or so could mark at Engagement Rings Direct or Pete at Quest Jewelers. Whiteflash also does tons of custom work - they have made many, many ring designs for PSers that you won''t see on their website.

Many of the PS vendors do custom so that is an option where they could make the ring to your specifications, here are some vendors who might be able to help - and you are most welcome!

There are a lot of vendors there but I wanted you to be able to browse through and see which ones appeal to you. These guys all have an excellent rep here and are great to deal with.

I would not buy a large diamond from Ebay...it''s just too risky. I think my cutoff would be under $1000 or 0.5ct, provided that I couldn''t find it anywhere else (e.g. some estate pieces or old cut diamonds look pretty nice on ebay).

Costco actually has some very nice pieces. The first engagement ring FI bought me was from Costco (we picked it out together), but then I returned it so I could choose my diamond, but I copied the design and had Whiteflash make a similar setting. The problem with Costco diamonds is that they come with IGI certs, and IGI is known to be soft on color/clarity grading. So while they say "I or better" and "VS2 or better," the I may be more like a GIA graded K, and the VS2 may be more like a GIA SI2. In the end, I decided I wanted the reassurance of an AGS cert and an ideal cut stone, but it was a tough choice because Costco''s prices were rock bottom!

Anyway, so don''t discount Costco; they have some great stuff if you can get past the IGI certs.
