Which phone camera is best for coloured gemstone

Yeah, red is traditionally difficult on phone cameras. Just a quick note regarding the Huawei, I don't know where on the globe you reside, but their phones no longer have google services, due to the trade ban imposed some time ago by the US government. So no google apps (gmail, chrome, youtube and so on) and most importantly, no goople play store for apps. For many people nowadays that would be a huge drawback.

Yes, I realised that after I posted it...what a bummer.

My hands are really this weird pad pink all the time. I'm terrible with taking pics, and I couldn't be fashed to figure out how, but I have an Samsung S21+. I mean look at that dry elephant skin in both sun and indoor indirect! I took these just a few minutes apart, just now, lift and click.
If it can make my potato pictures look decent, imagine if you actually knew how to use the camera at all!

I can't understand why it's so easy to photograph garnets and sapphires accurately, but so difficult to do so with rubies and sapphires. I can't get them right on my cheapo phone camera but its the same when people with iphones have photographed them.

I now have a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. It has greatly improved my point and click album. I mean, look at these low light potatoes.

Even the blurry ones are pretty.

I currently have the Samsung S23. I have to use the 3x zoom feature then pull the phone away a little further and the photos come out okay, pretty close to what my eyes see color wise. Green gems are a different story lol. The regular 1x no zoom works awful and always makes my skin look 100 years old for some reason lol.
My old S20 would oversaturate sometimes, while the S23 is more realistic.

See?! Same phone camera, way more talent by @CBianco .
Takes a beautiful picture.

I was sort of kidding -- I did not understand why sapphires were in each comparison group

Oh sorry, I meant to say garnets and spinels photograph accurately, but rubies and sapphires don't.

I've been struggling to photograph a sapphire today so it's probably on my mind

Any iPhone 15 reviews yet?

Did you use the macro setting?

Hehe I got the cheaper model because I wanted a green phone (yes the obsession extends to phones too) so I click on the double zoom, hold it a hand length away and this is what I get! No macro setting on the cheaper, much nicer coloured model!

I have the iPhone 15 plus because I wanted pink, so I can understand why you got the green, @mellowyellowgirl!
To answer @T L ’s question, I think the camera is better and the reds and pinks are more accurate, but my old phone was an iPhone 11.

How does it photograph blue sapphires? Thanks

I placed an order for the iPhone 15 pro max, so when I get it (it’s sold out), I’ll let everyone know. I currently have an antiquated iPhone 8 Plus. 99% of my recent photos are taken on those. I liked my husband’s iPhone VR instead. It captures greens better and has more sharpness.

I think the telephoto lens will be the best option with your new phone, not a macro. I always found the greater the distance between the lens and stone the better the results.

The pink is sooo pretty!!! I had a hard time choosing between pink and green. My husband is techy so he’ll always get the Pro but even he was in love with the pink!

Take some new photos of Minerva for us!!!

My iPhone 8 Plus is horrible at capturing multiple colors in a stone My husband’s iPhone XR is much better. Same lighting conditions. Guess which one is better. I’m so frustrated when the camera can’t see what I see. Im hoping the iPhone 15 will be an even larger improvement IMG_0558.jpegIMG_9927.jpeg
