I had thought about putting my pink spinel into this Legacy setting then after popping the zircon into it, I thought it looked quite nice too.

Here's a picture of the setting.

The original idea with a pink stone. I don't know why it looks orangish here because it really has a blue modifier IRL.

I am loathe to set my zircon into a ring setting though because of its brittleness.

I pick Zircon...it's just looks beautiful in there, imo... but yea it's a scary thought having it put in a setting :o

Chrono, they both look great, so I'd go with the pink. Awfully easy to knock a ring like that against something & chip a zircon. That blue girl is too beautiful to risk hurting her.

I really like the blue in there as well but worry that it would get damaged. I'd definitely put the pink spinel in the ring and save the zircon for a pendant.

If the only consideration were color, I'd go with the zircon, but since we live in the real world, and zircon is fragile in rings, I'd do the spinel. It looks wonderful in the setting, too, and would have a much longer and happier life in it than the zircon probably would!

Blue for sure - the YG and blue combo is awesome. But if you're afraid of it getting damaged, the pink also looks nice in the setting - blue is just my favorite :)

Well...

i'm getting ready to set a blue zircon into a ring, and I already set my pink tourmaline into a white legacy so....

If you worry about the zircon, go with the spinel. maybe have the zircon set into a pendant instead? (and then you can get some pink melee and...well never mind lol)

I agree with Arcadian, I would probably set the spinel.

Thanks ladies. Yes, that blue zircon is too precious to be replaced. I'd rather leave it unset just to make sure it'll remain undamaged. It's a pity though because it looks great in the Legacy setting but it's not worth the potential damage and heartache that follows.

The zircon pops out at me. I love the contrast. the pink is just eh in that setting.

Green not fit?

The green fits perfectly well in the setting and looks great in the 18K yellow gold but somehow, I'm still pining for a 3 stone with the tsavorite. My inspiration picture for the tsavorite except that the colours are reversed:

Awwww, Geeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz that BLUE

I'm such a pendant gal, but couldn't I just see that Blue Z in a pendant just like that ???????
It would be so nice to wear it, as opposed to looking at it in it's wee, snug little box......

Zircon looks like a neon tourmaline in there. :naughty: However, the setting is in the Edwardian style, and the zircon is a modern concave cut, so I'm not sure if the styles mesh, although I do love the color combo.

It's hard to comment on the spinel, because like you said, the photos make it look to orangey. If it's more blue, it would be a nice option, but we need color correct photos. It's hard to tell otherwise. I just set a Mahenge that has some orange in it, in 18K yellow gold, and it looks great. The stone goes more blue in natural light though.

I love the way the spinel looks in the setting, but that blue zircon is just WOW!!!

I know you're worried about the zircon being damaged, but if I were you, I'd enjoy that bad boy in that setting. Just don't wear it everyday. Seriously, how often do you see a marriage of YG and blue stone that makes you gasp? It reminds me of TL's cuprian in YG. Just stunning!

I  the blue zircon!! simply stunning!

I love that zircon too and really want to wear it. Thanks for your opinions! Of course, I wish the zircon is really a neon cuprian instead. :naughty:

Here’s a new question which I never considered but TL brought up. While I love the blue and high karat gold combo, does it bug anyone that a modern concave cut stone is set in an antique style setting?

It probably wouldn't have if you and TL hadn't brought it up.... 8)

Actually, after looking at the pictures again, no, I don't think it does. In this case the color combination (blue and yellow gold), shape of the stone, and the setting trump everything else.
