Zircon is sparkly sparkly sparkly! Topaz is more about color.
Dotto. Zircon is about as brilliant as diamonds are, topaz not quite (close to sapphire by RI).

Anyway, I hadn''t found a convincing teal aqua-blue sapphire until now. Well, I have not seen this one (might, if the price is ok - I don''t even know the size for now!)- at least the picture.

I think the sparkly blue zircon would be perfect...now does anyone know of any places with already created pendants with zircon? I''m trying to talk my guy into getting the stone & doing a custom, but so far he''s just not sure so I want to give him other options.

Valerie--what a yummy sapphire. I''ve never seen one that color before either!

Not really, and even if I did, I may not jump up to post about them. Since natural zircon is not the most common stone in better jewelry - chances are the stones in ready-made settings would be very much worse. And that definitely does away with my interest.

Would it work to have the gift offered as a ''gift card'' ? I.e. get a quote for the finished piece assembled with the stone you want by a jeweler of your choice. Since the completion of the piece depends on your approving it, there isn''t much difference between that and ready-made. Definitely not in terms of payment method (for a ''package deal'').

My 0.2, as usual.

It shouldn''t be too hard (done with diamonds on the other side of this forum

) and who knows, maybe the procedure catches on.

Gary @ www.diamondexpert.com could hunt you down a kicken zircon and mount it in a stock setting.
No need to go custom, just have it put together for you.
www.diamondexpert.com

He has one on his site but it may be a little on the green side for what you want.
He can get more in.

I see - I suppose this 'custom' word gets applied to so many things there is confusion. That is what I was thing at too - 'custom' as in anything that involves putting pieces together (including the stone + stock setting version).

Btw. is there a part with jewelry at Diamondexpert.com ?

Anyway, these zircons may not be calibrated, so there is a little 'if' about stock settings. But that just means the jeweler will need to know what stone is considered before giving a quote.

Hope this cuts down the e-mail trail a bit.

I ussually by a stone I like and give it to a local jeweler to tell me what she thinks the pendant should look like. We both discuss it and they make the peice. Just to have it set in gold with no other stones is about $100 if you supply the stone. I like simple.

I''m working on my husband to do the pick a stone + pick a setting concept. Last night he asked a question that I''m not sure on....so maybe you can answer it...

Is Blue Zircon natural or is it a synthetic like cubic zirconia?

It is a natural stone... the name sounds unfortunately close to CZ but there is no relation whatsoever.

There is no synthetic version of the natural zircon gem, wherever you buy it from, it can only be natural.
