Who are the top democratic presidential candidates for 2020?

No one needs to vote for Democrats if he does not want to, and Manchin may switch parties. His daughter Heather Bresch's controversy with epi pen was bad enough. A kid died because of peanut butter allergy and inability to afford epi pen.

And before that time there was another one with her MBA.

http://fortune.com/2016/08/26/epipen-mylan-ceo-interview-heather-bresch-mba/

"It was during this odyssey that the Heather Bresch situation surfaced. The October 2007 news release announcing Bresch’s promotion [to COO] declared that she had received an MBA from West Virginia University; by December, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that WVU had altered her transcripts and awarded her degree retroactively. Joe Manchin by then was West Virginia’s governor, and the implication of cronyism tainted Bresch just as she was emerging as a corporate leader….A subsequent investigation by the school stripped Bresch of her degree. Its 95-page report concluded that administrators had given Bresch grades “pulled from thin air” because of her “high profile”—but it didn’t directly fault either father or daughter."

(Is it that difficult to even get an MBA? Why does anyone need to alter transcripts for it?)

Well if I had the opportunity to vote for him it would be because he is a centrist, not because of his daughter's MBA, which would have no bearing on my vote.

He is not a centrist. Rather, there are no truly left-leaning in the Democratic party, so most Dems are centrists. Manchin is very much to the right of the center. The story with his daughter's MBA, like the story with Mylan, shows nepotism and dishonesty. This being said, I consider both father and daughter very smart people, but no way would I vote for Manchin.

Depends on where. It's time consuming.....but only if you go to a real school. An MBA is useless unless you go to a top school.

Go Maxine!...You can beat Trump in 2020.:clap:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Socialism is here to stay!
nuts.gif

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, that poor little girl from the Bronx who worked so hard and succeeded?

Now I see that see moved out the Bronx when she was 5. So now she has reworded her official bio. Oh well, just another politician. What did one report on her say?

"no mention was made that her family moved to Yorktown, north of the Bronx, where records indicate Ocasio-Cortez lived with her mother and brother until their home was sold in 2016 for $355,500"

That's Westchester County folks.

(Yorktown is a U.S. town that lies on the north border in Westchester County, New York, in a suburb approximately 38 miles north of midtown Manhattan. The population of Yorktown was 36,081 at the 2010 U.S. Census. - wikipedia)

And what did she say about reports on her embellished background?

"Ocasio-Cortez fired back at her critics.

“Your attempt to strip me of my family, my story, my home, and my identity is exemplary of how scared you are of the power of all four of those things,” she tweeted."

Her story was a made up story.

About like me claiming to be a kid from a rowhouse in Baltimore. True, but we left in 1962 after I finished 7th grade and moved to Montgomery County Maryland, just north of the D.C. Wealthy, great schools, etc. But I'm a just a hardworking kid from Baltimore. :naughty:

Hi, johnbt-

Your bursting into this thread with something negative to say about a woman I admire (and having so few postings to your name) made me look you up. I wondered if you had joined Pricescope in order to engage in controversial political discussions.

I ended up reading the story of your fiancée's (now your wife's?) lost (and found) Whiteflash ring during your trip to The Outer Banks in North Carolina. Thank you for sharing that; it is a great story.
I hope all is going well for you!

Best,
Deb/AGBF

Hi. You're welcome and as you can see I like to laugh at everyone, even myself when I do something boneheaded like drop a new diamond on the beach and drive off.
And I especially like to laugh at politicians when they say or do silly things.

I thought a little more of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez before I found out she wasn't quite what she had presented herself to be during the campaign. But that's politics, isn't it? You only have to fool enough people to get elected.

I'm trying hard right this minute (watching the England-Sweden World Cup match) not to get started poking fun at Maxine Waters because it would be just too easy. The top Democratic Party members are on her case enough already that other Democrats are asking them to apologize to her for not being supportive. What a circus.

John

Tammy Duckworth is ready for VP. She needs a little more experience (I’m from Illinois) and the in 4 years she can run for president. Maybe pair her with Biden and if he dies she takes over. Win win

I love Tammy Duckworth!

I really love Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

Like many, I am waiting until the midterms are over to see what happens.

My son and I have been speculating that Trump won’t run for a second term. He will tell the people that he has had the most successful presidency in history. He will say he’s accomplished more than any other president in half the time and there is nothing more for him to do, so he won’t be running for a second term. Then there will really be some fun at the polls in 2020.

My God, I hope you’re right!! :eek-2:

I’m afraid Trump won’t leave even if he loses the election in 2020. There are days I think he will do whatever is possible to stay President for the rest of his life. Laws and the constitution mean nothing to Trump.

If I may be blunt, the democrats could nominate kermit the frog and I would still vote for their candidate. I can't imagine a candidate that the democrats would rally behind that would be worse than the racist cheeto.

"the racist cheeto"

What is this, 8th grade?

Excuse me while I go look for the party of diversity and inclusion. :rolleyes2: There must be one somewhere. Where have all the adults gone?

Sorry John, I have no problem with anyone making a non positive remark about a narcissistic president who has no regard for helping anyone other than the wealthy, insults anyone who isn’t a white male. Any person who has no problem separating children from their parents and putting them in cages, while having no plans in place to bring these families together deserves any negative comment someone says about him. This president doesn’t deserve any ones respect. He is a horrible human being.

At this point in time if you are remaining silent, you are complicit.

How does calling Trump racist (which is true based on his own words and actions) and "cheeto", which is his choice to make himself look orange, somehow mean the opposite of diversity and inclusion??

Calling Trump out for his racism is necessary. Anyone who doesn't is complicit in his nonsense (agree with you @Calliecake !)

You can: choose not to read; use the ignore button; apply a generous dab of butthurt cream.png each time you either miss the point or choose to troll.

Well today MailOnline says Hillary is fundraising to run again. That’s the best way to get Trump reElected so dems better do something!

I get your point, Matata, and I agree that Johnbt can ignore what he doesn't like rather than to criticize the choice of words of another poster. I hate Trump and would call him far worse names than "Cheeto". I tend to think he is pure evil, not some cute little snack. Calling him "Cheeto" always seems to me to humanize him more than he deserves, or to make him seem less dangerous.

However, just because I have OCD and like to be specific, in my opinion, Johnbt is not a troll and was not trolling. He was an expressing an opinion that was just, if anything, netnannyish.

Deb :wavey:

Netnannyish?

Must there be a name for anyone who doesn’t agree?

Why not simply state your opinion and dispense with the name calling and labeling?

And I don’t believe I’m the one who’s butthurt in this thread. I’m not even defending the President and folks are getting all sorts of shrill and bent out of shape. It would be amusing if it wasn’t so sad.

Sort of reminds me of lack of civil discourse during the Nam war, but on a much, much smaller scale.

I forgot. This works really well. Available at Target, Walmart and the usual stores. Really, it is.

This wouldn't have happened if the parents didn't break the law. Is like robbing a bank then cry foul after being sentenced by a judge.

critiquing my choice of adjectives and nouns that accurately depict the pathologically lying, narsisstic sociopath that occupies the white house is a sad attempt to distract from the topic of who the democrats are going to choose , if we should vote for them and why we would or would not vote for them.
Next time the trump supporters show me that they have watched a trump rally, seen his disgusting spiel and have been outraged at the behavior, language and demeanor of the demented soul that is preaching racism, trying to undermine our fbi and laws and so much more;
next time they stand and tell trump he will never have their support and tell their congressman and senators to replace trump, not just once in a while but every day because he continues to hurt innocent people. When this has happened THEN they can lecture me on “civility.”
They do not get to deride “political correctness “ and then turn around and demand that everyone ELSE, who doesnt support trump meet some sick double standard of civility.
Trump has told his followers to hit people who disagree with him, he will pay their lawyer bills, Has told police to rough up suspects, he has been beyond disrespectful to John McCain who is a terminally ill war hero. He has the crowd chant to lock up a woman who has been convicted of no crimes yet demanded due process for his spoual abusing staffer and he has pardoned a sherriff who purposefully violated peoples rights and was openly racist and who has no qualms about his open defiance of our laws.
Any man who wishes to jail a political opponent and then free convicts who openly defy our laws and do it so they can be openly racist is a not a leader of the country. Supporting that person so they may continue that racist behavior in my opinion is UNCIVIL.
To defend this —“grab them by the” genital — and —I don't have to be “politically correct” —despot, is offensive to me as a human and by defending that morally bankrupt human there is no longer a right to tell me how to behave or compare me to a child. The defenders of trump lost that right to lecture me after he said mexicans were rapist, drug dealers and that some he assumed were good people AND THEY DID NOT IMMEDIATELY demand he leave the republican party.

So here we are waiting for the 2018 election, and then if trump has not resigned or been impeached , we are all hoping the democrats will present a canidate that will take back civility in 2020.

I hope they will pick someone to be kind, trustworthy, and will serve the people of this country with honor and integrity.
For 2020 I hope the republicans nominate kasich and the democrats - well I am sure they will pick someone who is a better person than our current oval office occupant. I will vote for whomever they choose.
My letters to my senators and my congressmen have been responded to with form replies and my representatives do not represent me. They support someone who I find reprehensible. I will not stop writing and calling and asking them to stand up to trump. They need to know that decent people do not approve of his unfathomable behavior.
I look forward to learning about democratic possibilities over the next 2 or so years until the convention.
Most of the people on this thread have great suggestions and ideas and I look forward to learning from them too! So enlighen me on some of the possibilities!

As a former republican. I have a lot to learn!

It would be nice if nobody would lecture anyone. You make your choices and I will make mine, sometimes never the twain shall meet. Sometimes they will which is ok too.

This is my favorite part of the article (bolded is mine):

"No, these days, being “conservative” means being angry and fearful at the loss of white prerogative. It means to embrace — or at the very least, tolerate, which is functionally the same thing — a new and brazen strain of white supremacy. It means to be dismissive and destructive of the norms of democratic governance. It means to willingly accept nonstop lies, intellectual vacuity and naked incompetence and pretend they are signs of stable genius. It means to be wholly in thrall to the Cult of Trump.

Small wonder GOP heavyweights like columnists George F. Will and Max Boot and campaign strategist Steve Schmidt have disavowed their party out of devotion to what conservatism used to be. Their moral courage makes neon obvious most Republicans’ lack thereof.

That said, one wonders if it will not turn out that these worthies are simply holding out on their own lonely island of principle, if conservatism’s headlong march toward fascism will not make them the ones who seem naive 20 years down the line. But that’s their problem.

This column is about my problem, which I guess I’ve solved, though not without some regret for the days when I felt free to walk between political extremes and not declare myself. But in 2018, that’s an unaffordable luxury. In 2018, one of those extremes represents a danger as clear and present as any foreign adversary.

So yes, I am a liberal. Because I have, literally, no alternative."

I am a conservative and none of those things, especially angry or fearful. In fact the generalization of conservatives in this piece is offensive and out of touch. But it is the author's opinion which is fine for him. He may have no choice but I do.

The beginning of the article is fine until the author weighs in on his opinion of all conservatives. It is great to not be blindly loyal to one party or another.
