I remembered when I was 15 asking my mom how come all the jewelry her and my father bought for me was either my birthstone or pearls, how come I never got diamonds? And she told me that she believed my first diamond should come from my proposal. Without fail they continued to not give me diamonds year after year, well ironically enough after I got married they bought me 1.5 ctw princess cut stud earrings

So I guess my mom held to her belief

. So my question is....

My grandmother gave me a tiny diamond cluster necklace for my 8th grade graduation. I lost it some time ago, though.

In college, my then-bf (now ex) gave me a pair of diamond studs for Christmas. I lost one of them, and still have the other. I guess I'm keeping it for sentimental value more than anything.

I did buy myself a diamond for the first time this year. When I completed my PhD preliminary exams I treated myself to an Elsa Peretti silver band with a tiny sparkly in it!

Jen, so your grandma was the first!

I''m all for self-blinging too!

Yup, my grandma was the first!

She set a precedent for herself though, as she has 5 other granddaughters that have gotten/will get a little blingage for their 8th grade graduations, too!

LOL that is too sweet! I love to hear about little family traditions like that! From the looks of my poll, seems that thus far my parents were just being stingy as more people received their first diamond from their parents as opposed to a love interest...I was deprived...lol

Ha, my parents may have given me my first diamonds, but they were teeny tiny diamond chip earrings when I was 17. I did receive my grandmother's engagement ring from the 1920's, for my HS graduation. I still have the ring. It's approx 1/10 carat round stone in an illusion type antique setting. I remember being 16 and wanting diamond jewelry. Now I have some and always want more. Oh well. But, now, my DH buys them for me and they're larger.

First DiamondsThis is the first thing I owned with diamonds that I remember. Though I know that my parents had given me a tiny band half eternity with sapphires and diamonds but I hurt my hand in a baseball game and it had to be cut off....I am not sure what happened to it. So I count this one as my first now, it was my swett sixteen along with a SLK 230. (still my favorite birthday ever

)

My first diamond ring was a family antique, which I received on my 13th b-day. It has 5 OMC stones set in platinum. My mom gave me a .40ct for my 16th b-day, a .96 for H.S. graduation, a 1.13 for college graduation, and a .76 for my 21st b-day. She recently got me a 1.5, but I returned it because it just wasn't me, and also a pair of diamond studs which i still have. For holidays, she gave me a .5 ruby, a 2.5 tanzanite, a .9 sapphire, and an imperial jade earrings/ring/pendant set.

I have always told boyfriends that I do not wish to receive any jewelry from them unless it is an engagement ring. What would i do with an old ring/pendant/bracelet from an ex!?!

You got a SLK and that ring for your 16 b-day??? I''m sure you''ll remember that forever!

A diamond pendant necklace from my first real boyfriend the Christmas I was 16! Almost 20 years ago...and I still wear it! The chain has never broken, and it''s simple and classic. A lot of my girlfriends have worn it as "something borrowed" when they got married! I ran into him about 5 years ago when I was visiting my parents and told him about how much use it''s gotten and how special it is! It''s sort of like my good luck charm...but apparently not his, since I broke his heart and dumped him! I guess he still considers me that one that got away...

I don''t think my parents were too thrilled when the necklace he had permission to give me, turned into a fairly expensive diamond necklace!

WOW A diamond necklace from a boyfriend at 16?!?! He probably thought you two would "live happily ever after"..

hehe what a great Q. I got my first diamond from my first serious boyfriend when I was 17...it was a tiny ~.20c heart shaped promise ring. God I loved that thing!

Isn''t relativity funny... a .2 carat at 17 just seems like the WORLD, and now my hubby knows better LOL j/k

got a 1.47ct rb (19 yrs ago) as an e-ring but, lost it in a robbery 10 yrs ago.

My first diamonds were given to me when I was born. It was diamond studs and a diamond ring from my aunt. (I think she was just overly excited because I was the first grand kid....no one else was given that
3.gif
). The ring was sized for a child, I had pictures in some book like a small solitaire looking ring. Very cute. I started wearing it when I was 3, and quickly lost it that summer while playing in the sprinkler! The studs I wore after I got my ears pierced, lost them. Don''t know how large they were but boy they looked big on my ears in 2nd grade, hehe. Parents bought me a new pair, lost them. Grandma bought me a new pair....lost them too

I mean, none of them were huge, so it wasn''t a big loss. I so don''t have a good track record with jewelry, but i love it!

My uncle gave me a wedding band that he found in the ocean when I was about twelve. My aunt only wears a simple band and didn''t want it. It was a YG band with a WG part at the top, with teency diamond "dust" LOL embedded in the WG part. I still have that somewhere.

My mom gave me a pair of diamond studs, 0.98ctw I/SI2, for my HS graduation. Still have those but never wear them (they pinch).

I was given a .5ct pear shaped diamond engagement ring from my first bf/fiance. Gave it back when I called it off.

WOW that is a unique story (about finding the band in the ocean)!

YAYYYYYYYY the fiance''s are winning (although it is neck and neck between finace and parents)

So, do you think that starting off so young with our "diamonds" has turned us into the fiends that we''ve become today?
emotion-40.gif

I dont know...I only wore my pretty ring once to prom and then I didnt take it off to school with me (which was good because my Breitling B-Class was stolen out of my dorm room along with my comp while my door was locked....) and since posting it here on PS I have worn it three times. I think PS makes me feel less guilty for the things I have and enjoy. We grew up in the military and didnt have much when we were in and now that we do it is a balance between enjoying what I have been blessed with and feeling guilty because I know these are not nessecites.

Oh and LLL I dont have the car anymore a Ford F350 ran a stop sign and T-boned me it was pretty bad and I was too shaken to drive for awhile and when I did I opted for a SUV.

My boyfriend at the time gave me a star sapphire ring set in w/g with two very small diamonds on each side about two weeks before my 16th birthday. It was a "promise" ring. I loved it until my sister stole it from me a few years ago
38.gif
. It had sentimental value and I still don''t trust her to this day.

My first diamond was given to me by my boyfriend when I was 15. It was a little heart with a diamond in the center. I loved that necklace. Have no clue what happened to it. I still run into the boyfriend every now and then.

even though i got my first diamond ring when i was 17...i was definitely NOT into diamonds until i met Greg...well about right before actually. it's all the fault of one of my best girlfriends, who i met about 6 months before Greg, she used to be my boss...she has tons of diamonds and when i saw how great they looked on her (4ctw earrings from her parents!) then i was smitten with the idea of someday having my own big rocks. Enter poor innocent Greg, who asks me after 6 months of dating if i 'would ever wear diamond earrings'.....well sure!!!! enter first pair of 1ctw earrings at age 26..and it's all been a downhill diamond slide from there.

i think he still kicks himself for asking me that question so long ago.

I''m sorry to hear that M
emsad.gif
, thank God you are ok! I drive an SUV too with like 10 airbags in it...my husband teases that if God forbid I was ever in an accident I will feel like I''m floating in clouds with all the airbags!

It''s so interesting to hear everyone''s story of how they received their first diamond! Keep them coming!

My parents gave me a heart 14K YG ring with a small diamond chip for high school graduation. I wanted a class ring, but they felt that I''d probably cease wearing it 1/2 way into my freshman year of my college years and felt this ring would provide me with much more wear...unfortunately during my high school chemistry class, some chemicals touched the gold and ate right through it...I''ve had it repaired several times, but it keeps breaking in that one area...

I really should repair it as it would be a nice RHR!

My boyfriend from high school gave me a solitaire diamond, I think when we were in college (promise ring?) It wasn''t very big..... We never were engaged, and split up after college. Gave the ring to my little sister. Loved him madly, but not meant to be together!
