My mom wanted to be the one to give me my first pearls and my first diamonds (to start a tradition, so if I ever have a daughter, I can do the same). For Christmas my senior year of high school, she gave me a set of pearl studs with a cathedral set pearl ring to match. My first year of college, she gave me a very modest pair of diamond earrings (I don''t know what size they are, but they are small round set it white gold).

My grandmother continued the tradtion and passed down a set of her pearls to me at college graduation and then gave me a three-stone peridot ring- my first piece with my birthstone it in. I wear it all the time.

I have never had a bf give me any jewelry with bling in it (just silver), so I guess when I get engaged it will be the first.

My mom and dad. For my Christening, they gave me a gold cross with a tiny diamond in the center. I still have it.

My parents. They bought each of us a signet type ring w/ a tiny diamond in it when we were born.

Keep the stories coming!

I voted for my fiancee. Her mom is big into jewelery. Her first diamond was given to her by her mom. I have yet to own a single diamond. It''s ok. I''ll support whatever jewelery she wants as long as she continues to support whatever electronics I want.

Sounds like the deal my husband and I have :-)

When I turned 16 my Daddy gave me a diamond ring with a heart and said that was his heart to me... :) my sweet daddy!

I love that ring, I think I will pass it on to my daughter when she is old enough and when I have one for that matter!!

My mom gave me my first diamond, and somehow I lost it.

I''m glad that she was the first one to give it to me though; I hope one day I can pass my diamonds to my daughter...that is, whever I have kids.

My grandparents on my mom''s side were jewelers, but my first diamond came from my dad''s mother. She only had one diamond, a tiny stone set in her engagement ring. When I was born, her first and only grandchild, she removed the diamond in her engagement ring & replaced it with a CZ. She had the diamond set into an illusion setting on a gold chain & gave it to me. I have pictures of myself wearing it as a baby & still have the necklace.

One Thanksgiving when I was about 12 years old, my grandmother brought down her engagement ring and wedding band (which she never wore anymore due to her swollen hands). She gave her wedding band to her only daughter and gave me the engagement ring. I am neither the only nor oldest grandaughter of hers so I''m not sure why she chose me to hold something so special. Sometimes I wear it from time to time just to think of her. She''s still alive and energetic and I see her fairly often for holidays and such. I''m just glad of ALL the jewelry I''ve misplaced, I''ve been careful enough to still have it. As long as someday I have a daughter I will also give it to her at a young age.

What memorable stories!

Such a cute topic. My first diamond(s) were from my first boyfriend (we met my freshman year in college - I was a late bloomer). It was a tennis bracelet with the most awful, cloudy stones, but he looked so excited giving it to me, that I still can''t help but smile every time I see it. I''ve been single for a while now and joke that I don''t need a man because I always get flowers & jewelry from my girls (friends & sisters).

My first diamond came from my parents as a graduation present when I earned my PhD. They were going to get me some fancy leather briefcase, and I said "Nooooooo!!!! - I will never use that, but what I WILL use is a diamond pendant!" And that''s what I got.

If I hadn''t gotten it, or any other diamond by the time I turned 30, I was going to buy one for myself. As it turned out, I got the graduation pendant as well as an engagement ring and wedding band before 30! But I''m still open to the idea of buying myself some more.

I cannot believe that parents are first again! and BOYFRIENDS are beating the FINACEs!

I was about 6 years old and my mother bought this gold butterfly with a very tiny diamond in the middle of it. I still have it to this day thirty something years later.

It is interesting, no matter how young we were, that we can all remember the stories behind our first diamonds.

My parents gave me a pair of earrings, 3 stones per side which I later reset into a ring. The diamonds around 10 points? Don''t know about the quality though since it was at least 20 years ago!

Here''s what it looks like now.

Mine came from my first love when I was only 15, and I still have the ring. I often wonder what happened to him. My parents were opposed to me having a serious boyfriend at that age, and eventually forbade us from seeing each other. We were forced to to break up. I believe he moved away from my hometown for a while after that. He was so sweet to me, and I really believe you never quite get over your first love. About 10 years ago, my best friend from high school ran into him, and the first thing he asked her was how I was! That was kind of funny and sad at the same time. All these years later (I''m 41), and thoughts of him still come to mind quite often.

I bought my first diamond for myself (for my collection). I also bought a "first diamond" for my sister, my daughter, and 2 of my nieces and I replaced my mother''s first (I think) diamond, her original engagement ring, after it was stolen.

I think my fiance gave me my first diamonds. We had been dating a little over a year..
I told him that I didn''t want any jewelery for the longest time. And whenever he did want to buy me some, I would tell him that its too expensive for something so small.

So for my college graduation he tricked me. I didn''t want him spending that much money on something like that for me., but he kept insisting that his MOTHER wanted to buy me jewlery for my graduation and that she wouldn''t have it any other way.. So he got me to pick something out. One of those totally over-advertised past-present-future pendants from Kays. I thought he was going to buy me floormats for my car. :) Of course he ended up getting me the necklace and I''m SOOO glad that he did, because its so much more special from him than it would have been from his mom.. And his mom and dad got me the floormats. :)

Little did he know, he created a monster!!

My first diamonds were from my parents. I was in college and they gave me a small five stone band ring in white gold. It is very pretty (1/3 ctw) and I still wear it on my left hand. The setting is very unique (bars of gold set east to west between the diamonds). I have never seen a ring like it before. I love it.

Man, no sentimental stories for me!

I gave myself my first diamond(s). I bought a pair of .40 tcw round diamond platinum studs off ebay about 3 years ago, and I still wear them to this day! For being very diamond uneducated they are pretty clear and sparkly!

HI:

Ruby and diamond ring for my 16th BD from my dear late father. He was so good to me....

cheers--Sharon

my parents gave me a .25 carat diamond set in 14k white gold ring for my high school graduation and my sister gave me a tiny diamond pendant for the same occasion. banjo

I got my first diamond from my parents for my 21st birthday. (It''s a 1.25 carat pear. E color, SI1. I still have it.) There''s been no stopping me since then!

My parents gave me a diamond ring that had a heart shape to the head with a diamond in the center- my parents told me that the ring was their heart to me .

Very sentimental, I love that ring.

Geez! I must be a big loser! My first diamond was my e-ring from my husband!
