i have several diamond pieces that i don''t really consider my first diamond...i got a diamond/tanzanite ring from my family in college. also inherited pieces...

"MY" first just diamond piece i received when i graduated college. it''s a princess cut .75 ct. pendant.

I''m an April baby. Mom let me know as soon as I was able (13 years first diamond ring) to get it that diamonds were my birthstone and my birthright.

Gotta love Mom.

What a sweet thread. My BF gave me my first diamonds (Zales earrings with 4 little round diamonds made to look like a princess stud). They were $100 (checked on website) and were given for Christmas BEFORE we ever began dating. When we/he were still in the "we''re really just friends" stage. We were friends who had met on the Internet, hung out a couple times a month but chatted every night. He had a habit of dropping off gifts in our mailbox (did that before on my B-day). He''d make the 1 1/2 hr drive up (1 1/2 hr drive back) sometimes without even calling and if we weren''t home he''d do that. I was in HS then and $100 was certainly over our unstated budget and both mom and I couldn''t believe he''d leave something like that in the mailbox! I was also thrilled because I knew a guy wouldn''t just give diamonds as a present to anyone. (he later said he just thought they were nice earrings....right). I still have those earrings and they are an everyday staple now (for the first 1-2 yrs I just wore them for special occassions). I actually lost one once for months and later found it, butterfly-back crushed as it must have been stepped on. They will be worn as my everyday classics until I get real princess studs, but treasured longer.

Hey I didn''t see this got bumped up after June, so nice to read the new posts!

My first diamond was in my first wedding ring.... a little teeny tiny thing!

Mom... a .50ct rb solitaire pendant.

After misplacing some jewelry once, my mom gave me a few items of jewelry she no longer wears, including the diamond solitaire my dad gave her. It is a very nice cut .60 rb (perfect size for me). She told me I should wear it! so after confusing a couple friends by wearing it on the only finger where it would fit (middle finger, left hand), I put it back in my jewelry box out of fear some potential boyfriend would get the wrong idea!

When my husband and I got engaged, we were both students (he still is) with no money. I told him to use my mom's diamond in a new setting, but he wanted to buy something new. So I have a .15 ct engagement ring on my finger, and a .60 ct diamond in my jewelry box!

I'm still trying to figure out how best to wear my mom's diamond: pendant, rhr, or one day get DH to set it as a new engagement ring. We'll see.

Mine, too!

It was a gift from my parents on my 18th birthday. It''s set in a sleek bezel right now, but I''m having it reset into an octagonal halo this christmas.

BUMP!

I loved reading this thread and thought I would give it a little bump as there must be some newer members who haven''t read/posted since the last posting about a month ago.

my first diamonds were given to me by my mom when I left for MN for college. it''s a little YG ring with about 25 points of diamonds in a small cluster. upon graduating I received a diamond studded cross, and a .50 solitaire, both set in WG. MUCH more my style. the first diamond from a boy however, is from my bf (soon to be fiance! hopefully.) a .25 solitaire in WG. we''re now working on the e-ring!

My dad and stepmom. They gave me a diamond ring when I was about 12...I think. I recall them being reluctant to give it to me because they had bought me other jewerly and I lost those. I think I still have the ring...I''d have to look. The two diamonds in the ring were probably less than .25cts and it was set in yellow gold with a swirly type design.

My bf. (now husband) gave me a yg. "promise" ring when I was 16 (contemporary with a tiny diamond) from Zales. About a year later I had it soaking in a glass of water & dishwashing detergent to clean it, and his mother poured it down the trash disposal accidently....I pulled out a mangled scrap of gold.

I just love hearing all these stories!!

I think my grandmother. She gave me a set of earrings, a necklace and ring, each are a small round diamond surrounded by sapphires, for a flower like look. So pretty! :) I think I was around 11? I was a trustworthy child lol.

I bought my 1st diamond ring (solitare 0.16 carat and a pave ring) after seeing this piano teacher were wearing her engagement ring... sparkle like crazy. Told myself I MUSt own one someday.

Came to know that she used to work for a jewelry company before started piano teaching. No wonder she knows how to choose a good one.

I gave the solitare to my younger sis on her last bday.. but still kept the pave..

My first diamond was given to me by my then boyfriend, now husband. He gave me a tiny solitare "promise" ring in yellow gold for Christmas. I was 18 and he was 20. We had only been dating 4 months and my sweet younger brother thought we were engaged! I wear that ring on a necklace now. It means more to me than my engagement ring.(Can you believe that?!)

Much to my mother''s dismay, my paternal grandmother bought me my first pair of diamond stud earrings when I was 10. That started what has turned out to be a lifelong obsession, much to my BF''s dismay! Most of my "little kid" jewelry from my parents and grandmother is not suitable for adult wear, so I''m saving it to pass on my jewerly addiction to the next generation.

My husband (BF at the time) gave me my first diamond ring (little did he know what he was starting with this...

hehe)...it was a promise / engagement ring. It was a 0.20 ct marquise cut diamond with channel set baguettes on either side. I thought it was so big at the time and would stare at it constantly. I started to learn a little more about jewelry so I upgraded it to a 0.50 ct marquise diamond right before we got married. Soon after I started learning more about diamonds and realized that the quality wasn''t very good so about 2 years later I upgraded it to a 0.60 ct. E, VS2 marquise diamond. I still have this ring to this day although I don''t wear it very often (we''ve purchased a couple other rings for anniversaries, etc. that I alternate between).
I am a diamond addict now.

Well, I answered boyfriend because what I think of as my first diamond is the pendant he gave me for Christmas last year. Bezel set in platinum, I looooove it! Hehe, even though sometimes I refer to it as my "consolation prize" since we had already been talking about getting engaged a bit by the time that I found the little jewelry box under the tree....

But I guess technically, my first would be the Opal ring with diamond halo that my aunt gave me several years ago. When I was 18 maybe? Possibly younger. The story and pics are in the linked thread.

But my boyfriend bought my engagement ring last week so hopefully I''ll have more REALLY SOOON!!!!!
