I am on the hunt for a nice Asscher cut (yellow) stone. Who does the :wavey: best at cutting asschers? :appl:

I think the favorites on this board tend to be the following (in no specific order):

Peter Torraca (I have one of his)
Gary Braun
Gene Flanigan
Doug Menadue
Jeff White
Roger Dery

Am I missing any? As far as I know, they all cut pretty darn nice Asschers.

Barry Bridgestock of ACS also cuts asschers.

Each of these precision faceters cuts a slightly different style of asscher; so to say that one cuts better than another isn't quite fair. What is more important is WHO has the right rough that you are looking for.

I have the Gene Flanigan stone which I love. The crown is very high and the stone has a lot of depth. It's like a caricature of a diamond from the side and I love that profile and the depth it gives. Interestingly I believe Gene posted here he doesn't particularly like to cut asschers and mostly does it as a custom request and they are only popular among people frequenting PS. I would love to have a Jeff White asscher someday. All the ones of his I've seen are amazing, and he's cut some nice yellow ones too. I want a yellow asscher chysoberyl. Bespoke gems has several yellows. I think someone was disappointed once because they got one of his and it did not have windmills he said they were like, "egyptian asschers", but all the ones I see on his site now appear to have windmills.

I have one (or more) of each of all of these cutters except for Roger, and I'll go out on a limb and say that my two favourites are cut by Gary and Gene.

What would be neat is to see them all together, to see the differences in styles. *cough cough*

packrat....that sounds like a Fabulous idea....do you have any asschers you want to share? At the moment I don't own one....but hopefully will very soon. BTW, which yellow stone will give me the best ri? I really like the pale yellow (or wheat colors).....thanks for your input! ;))

Dan Stair has an asscher on his site right now. I want it in theory but it's pretty small. I think it's another one w/o windmills.

Hey Taylor, I've got a pink one coming shortly! I'm excited to see it-I've only just seen pics on here and I can only imagine how gorgeous the cut is in person!

Woo hoo...looking forward to seeing it. Do you mind sharing who you are getting it from? I am CRAVING an asscher.... :lickout:

It's a Peter stone! I didn't get it directly from him tho, but from another PSer. It's a light delicate pink and I'm dying to see it! :appl:

Did anyone ever get a thread like this together? I'm really interested in the difference between traditional asschers vs. egyptian asschers, but a comparison of all of our fav vendors' asschers would be very cool. I have a Jeff White I can chip in, lol.

How about similar material, similar weight/dimensions and two different cutters?

Jeff White minty peridot (set, stone to the right)

Peter Torraca minty peridot (unset, stone to the left)

ETA: wish this pic wasn't as blurry...and the unset peridot is no longer in my hands.

Peter Torraca aqua. This stone no longer belongs to me.

Here is a large chunk of purple spinels, the asscher is also Peter Torraca.

Gene Flanigan unheated Aqua (no longer in my possession).

Gene Flanigan, red zircon. I miss this stone...also no longer in my mitts.

Gene Flanigan. Also no longer in my hands. However it's been set into a beautiful ring owned by another PSer!

Love the Peter asschers. I also love those pink ones from Gene. I have found I'm not as attracted to the more octoganol asschers. I like the clip corner squares better.

Here's Jeff picture of my asscher.

I'm so in love with the ring I had made with it that I'm back on an asscher kick. If this new baby ends up being born in December like he's supposed to be, I think I'm going to contact Doug to see if he'll cut me an asscher from blue topaz. Just trying to decide if I want a more traditional asscher or if I'd like to try an Egyptian asscher. (BTW - I'm leaning heavily toward the name Asher for the baby, lol.)

Me too. Yours is lovely!

I have asschers by Jeff, Dan, and Peter. I would love to get my hands on more cut by Gary and Gene but it just hasn't been in the cards yet. However, personally I think my favorite asschers are by Peter and Gene.

Here is my asscher zircon, cut by Gary Braun. Interestingly, because zircon has a higher RI, it wasn't necessary to cut the pavilion as deep as most.

The asscher cut stones shown here are just gorgeous !!!!
Cellentani, what a lovely picture!

Here is a picture of my itty bitty guy, cut by Bob Kast !
I think he cuts a very nice stone !!!!
I wish I had some better pics of it, it is a neat little stone.
I snapped a few quick ones a while back, little Tourmaline...
