Who wants to see my haul from today?

Ooh, love it!! Sorry your other rings don't fit now though. You have so many lovely pieces! Are you experimenting with other fingers?

Yes, but what I’m finding is that usually much prefer just wearing rings on my ring and middle fingers. This means I have a lot of rings I’m not wearing especially my eternities and that amazing crispy Bristol band I bought last year. If I can ever get myself together at least some of them will be up for sale.

Hey all,

I hope you have all been well, sorry I’ve been absent but I’ve been going through some things. No worries, everyone is alive and hey, I have something to share!

Today we were Christmas shopping for the kids and drive past the pawn shop, DH actually turned around so I could “find myself something pretty”. Well because I’ve lost weight, almost none of my rings fit and gold is so outrageously expensive I just can’t stomach sizing them all. I thought it would be nice to find a diamond band and as luck would have it I spotted this one and get this, it is a 6 1/4! That is a long way from 8 1/2. Extra bonus, it’s a Jabel, 14k with platinum top $220 out the door, it’s about half a carat total.

on tuesday i took an afternoon off work, i dont think ive ever had an afternoon off work before
i hate going to town on my day off but seeing as i was already at work ....

it was very productive
i took my brand new 2 year old samsung into my provider finally, who were nice and did not growl or laugh - it has now been sent off to samsung for the factory reset thankfully free :appl:

i brought new shoes for work -very expensive things to be buying xmas week

i went looking for turkey mince, no luck at the butcher where i buy the pet food mince, and worse the supermarket i expected to have it and did not but didnt have much of a bakery counter any more and they used to do $3 macaroons boo hiss no more

i finished off my xmas shopping at the supermarket we use which is by the bus stop and got a few more bottles of late harvest im pairing with the panettone and the timtam coffee for my workmates
had some strawberrie waiting for the bus, i have been having them almost every day but now so close to xmas those things are increasing in price by about a dollar a day (so we are having frozen berries for xmas and we'll have the fresh ones again when the price returns to earth)

ok ok i degress, im getting to the point after i skipped over it before
so i had to walk past the salvation army store
i went in just to see if they anything royal commerative that needed rescuing
all nana's treasures have depreated to nothing
the lady at the counter said its so depressing how no realtives want it (the nice tea sets and cups and saucers ) dont they know how much nicer it feels to the mouth to eat and drink out of the good stuff
i just wish all the nanas and grandmas had not left things for good and had just used them even if it was just for sunday lunch
i belaave this si the first thime we have two genartions downsizing at once
im kind fo appaled im old enough to be grandma age of adult grandchildren so maybe now 3 geenartions are getting rid of stuff

i brought 3 little pieces of Limoges, sold together
similar to this
a jug, a tiny plate and a tiny vase like this that match a watering can i have

1734836935019.webp
a mellon baller (cant find our one and i need it for xmas to make the stuffed onions for lunch)
and a brand new peeler -still in its 1980's box, i think i must have thrwn ours out by mistake last week, a bit sad it was over 30 yearls old, it was Swedish, this 'new' one is from China, i was going to buy one with the groceres
anyway the whole lot $16

when i get the phone back maybe i can photograph the limoges

oh boy they had nice sized pieces in a cabinet at only $25
for pieces that would have been well over $100 back in the year 2K which was the last time i brought any new
but as i had not yet brought the shoes and i had no idea how much the phone problem would cost i thought i better not, not today

anyway the three little pieces feel loved again residing in our china cabinet
when i was a girl we used to get little pieces for christmas ,( i got a huge vase for my 20th)
I looked at these little pieces and thought where there no little girls in that family that would have enjoyed those keep-sakes of nana's? :cry2:

Daisy, how long till your phone is fixed? We need pictures! :)

he said well it will only take less than an hour to fix but you know ...
(its almost xmas week, a lot of NZ still closes down for 4 weeks at xmas, i don think samsung would but they will probably have a skalaton staff )

i said well its been two years needing to be factory reset so whats another week or two

I stumbled into a local pawn shop.
Knowing full well that this place has the good stuff.
Here is my treasure.

Can't wait to see the Limoges. Such a nice "reward" after doing the chores for Christmas preparation!

I love this so much! It looks great on you. It’s so well designed and the finishing is lovely. Do you know who made it? I love the highly polished accent band against the patinated texture of the Tufa cast. This is an amazing find.

Yes, it was made by Anthony Bowman, Navajo.
It really called to me! It's my new favorite thing.

Funny thing is I was really eyeing a five stone I saw on the Pawn America site but it was like $600-700 for the same carat weight and then I found this one. So weird when you are looking at something and then you find nearly the exact same thing for so much less $$

Babies first Rosenthal bee! I saw big version of this bee pin at an estate jewelry store in Charleston this weekend. I fell in love but it was out of my budget. Never one to shy away from a hunt, i started scanning all the sources and I saw this petite bee on FB marketplace available at pawn shop 30 minutes outside of the city. The images were blurry but i was able to make out what looked liked diamond hallmark on the wing. Turns out my hunch was correct and I got a good deal ($350) on this little piece of jewelry history. Will need to retip a prong as an emerald is loose but so happy! IMG_1946.jpegIMG_1949.jpegIMG_1950.jpeg

Oh, I adore this bee!

i thought the regulars on this thread would love this idea
a couple every year buy each other something from a large vintage shop for xmas

Two great and very personal finds from last week:

A solid brass lamp with a representing our state’s university system, which my husband spotted in a local thrift shop for about $12.00. It’s particularly apt for my husband and I since we graduated from two different campuses of the university.

A few days later I found the Wedgewood teacup set at a different shop. It commemorates the 100th anniversary - almost 60 years ago! - of my alma mater. The saucer has some crazing, but the cup is fine shape. Only $10.00.

The lamp came with a totally inappropriate, oversized drum shade. The neat little square shade, together with the smaller LED bulbs needed to make it work, cost about five times what the base cost - LOL. Kinda like how getting a stone set often costs more than the stone itself! But I love the finished lamp, and I’m so glad my husband spotted it in that little thrift shop!

Gorgeous pair! I am a big fan of Wedgwood.

I dropped into a little thrift store that I hadn't visited for a long time.
I found some treasures!

This is a mid century costume brooch with "dragons breath" art glass cabochons. They are reddish with mysterious floating blue iridescence.
I had only seen dragon's breath in pictures, but I recognized it right away.
I had to have this one!

Those pearl earrings are quite a find, but I gotta say that I just LOVE a great old costume brooch, especially one soooo bold!

I was pretty happy to spot them. Most thrift stores have no idea that the gold marks are sometimes stamped on the post!

And the brooch is really gorgeous. Dragon's breath and a blue glass stone called saphiret are very sought after by collectors. I was excited to find it!
