Why does a round diamond have different length and width?

...On the Moh's hardness scale iron is 4 to 5. Quartz is 7 and even hardened steel is only 7 to 8. Diamond is the hardest substance in the known universe. at 10 on the Moh's hardness scale it's actually many times harder than corundum, which comes in at 9.

Just FYI , a diamond isn't the hardest substance in the universe anymore. Aggregated carbon nanorods have been synthesized that are harder and more dense than diamonds.
Ah yes. Diamonds are the hardest naturally occuring substance... ADNRs were developed using HPHT processes similar to MMD production a few years ago. Diamond nanorods are something like a half-percent denser than natural diamonds. You'll chip your tooth on either one I think.

Chuck Norris used to polish diamonds on his beard he now just looks at them hard and they split into perfectly formed RB''s

I hear Chuck breathes warm air on them and they change from tinted to colorless.
