Why is unplated white gold taboo?

I’m requesting unplated 14k WG when my ring is made by DK. I definitely prefer it’s warmth over the bright white rhodium. The plating on my original e-ring from nearly 15 years ago has worn off and I love the color!

Plus my husband wanted me to get WG and wanted YG, so I figured this was a happy medium :Up_to_something2:

Hey Kenny,

Sorry if I did not read the entire thread. Just wanted to state that I am wearing a wedding-ring, in unplated white gold. Just love the brush.

Live long,

It really depends on the metal alloy composition. Not all 14K white gold look the same.
I just got rid of my 14K white gold custom pendant that was unplated, and I never was keen on the darker look and it discolored even more after 20 years despite almost never wearing it.
Though I see some lovely unplated 14K pieces here on PS, but not all unplated white gold look that good in general.

Here’s my piece. Forgot to add it above. Just wanted to post for future reference, and for anyone that’s choosing to go the DK route. I agree that all metal blends are not created equal! He offers a WG/palladium mix that doesn’t need plating and stays white, but I really like the warmth of the unplated personally. I know I’m probably in the minority!

Yes, DK palladium mix is one of the best I've seen here on PS. However, palladium white gold have a reputation of being much softer than other mixes, such as nickel white golds. I suppose there's that tradeoff.
