It's funny how some of these rings have no resemblance to Diana/Kate's ring at all, but the claims of being a replica are rampant! :read: 8)

I hadn't even noticed this, but here it is, an article about the similarity of the engagement photos,
quite honestly, they are similar...right down to the colour Kate chose to wear....she chose to wear the blue dress for the announcement of the engagement, like Diana, and now the same colour for the official photo, again, like Diana..mmmmmmm..
here is the write up,'
'Royal engagement photos: Prince William, Kate Middleton bear resemblance to Prince Charles, Diana'
'As if the comparisons to her fiance's late mother weren't enough, Kate Middleton's official engagement photos bear a striking resemblance to those of Princess Diana.

Middleton, who posed during a two-hour shoot with fashion photographer Mario Testino, is seen happily cozying up to Prince William as she proudly displays her 18-carat diamond-and-sapphire engagement ring in the photo.

The ring's original owner, Princess Diana, posed in similar fashion for her own engagement photos in 1981.The then 19-year-old is shown embracing a grinning Prince Charles, then 33, in their official portrait.

Like Diana, Middleton donned a neutral color for the intimate photos. Taking a down-home approach to the shoot, the buzzed-about princess-to-be wore a $325 Reiss dress and did her own makeup for the pictures. The royal couple, both 28, also posed for a more formal shot, in which they are elegantly poised side by side.

The couple's engagement photos were shot on Nov. 25 at St. James' Palace in London, and the grand wedding is set to take place on April 29 at London's Westminster Abbey.

The royal family that Kate is about to marry into, has some of the richest history of any family in the world. The family tree goes back centuries. Let's take a look back at William's lineage. First, his mother, the beauty who captured hearts, Diana, Queen of hearts, :halo:

More queen mum! Here is a write up about her, 'Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (Elizabeth Angela Marguerite; 4 August 1900 – 30 March 2002) was the Queen Consort of King George VI of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions from 1936 until his death in 1952. After her husband's death, she was known as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother,[1][2][3] to avoid confusion with her daughter, Queen Elizabeth II. Before her husband ascended the throne, from 1923 to 1936 she was known as the Duchess of York. She was the last Queen Consort of Ireland and Empress Consort of India.

Born into a family of Scottish nobility (her father inherited the Earldom of Strathmore and Kinghorne in 1904), she came to prominence in 1923 when she married Albert, Duke of York, the second son of George V and Queen Mary. As Duchess of York, she – along with her husband and their two daughters Elizabeth and Margaret – embodied traditional ideas of family and public service.[4] She undertook a variety of public engagements, and became known as the "Smiling Duchess" because of her consistent public expression.[5]

In 1936, her husband unexpectedly became King when her brother-in-law, Edward VIII, abdicated in order to marry the American divorcée Wallis Simpson. As Queen Consort, Elizabeth accompanied her husband on diplomatic tours to France and North America in the run-up to World War II. During the war, her seemingly indomitable spirit provided moral support to the British public, and in recognition of her role as a propaganda tool, Adolf Hitler described her as "the most dangerous woman in Europe".[6] After the war, her husband's health deteriorated and she was widowed at the age of 51 in 1952.

On the death of her mother-in-law Queen Mary in 1953, with her brother-in-law living abroad and her elder daughter Queen at the age of 25, Elizabeth became the senior member of the Royal Family and assumed a position as family matriarch. In her later years, she was a consistently popular member of the family, when other members were suffering from low levels of public approval.

Only after the illness and death of her younger daughter, Princess Margaret, in early 2002 did she appear to grow frail. She died seven weeks after Margaret, at the age of 101.'

I just read through this thread-thanks for all the beautiful photos Sithathoriunit!

I think I could look at photos of Diana all day. She was so beautiful and stylish, she could make a hopsack look good. And I've admired her ever since I saw her holding a baby with aids.

I'm glad William gave Kate the ring-it will be a constant reminder of Diana, and to me that's a good thing.

Thank you so much lulu! I am very happy to hear when people like this thread! I too adore Diana...she has brought much light to so many, even though she faced so many dark days of her own. I do believe that you are right, her ring will bring a constant reminder to everyone of Diana, and I too, am glad for that! May we always remember her, and as William knows well, his use of her ring will keep his mother in our memories and remind us of her always. Go Wills! :halo:
