Winter coat opinions please

I love the print and it looks so cozy, glad you decided to get it! One can never have too many coats and jackets! There is a style and function to each different jacket. I live in SoCal where it rarely goes below 50 degrees F, but I travel to colder parts of the world, and I’m cold blooded…so dh used to shake his head when I buy yet another coat or jacket, but now that my kids have moved out and we have spare closets, he doesn’t care, cos I just put them in the kid’s closet instead of invading his closet :)

Thanks Jaysonsmom and I agree!

I would love to live in a warmer climate because my body rebels in the cold. I use heat packs in the 50s lol. It’s great you have the extra closets. Makes a big difference.

Folks stop the personal attacks or we will be giving out time outs.

@missy, Do take a photo of yourself wearing it when it arrives!

I wore my Bean down parka just now to pick up my husband's Paxlovid (now that he's got Covid too). No sweating, just cozy and comfortable, other than the fact that it doesn't cover my backside when sitting (thank goodness for heated car seats.) I think I just have to save it for times when the outside temp is under 40º.

When my daughter was in college, the campus had one main road that everyone walked to get to just about every building, and it was a real wind tunnel! The coat she had taken to school wasn't warm enough for that. So I bought her a knee-length L.L. Bean puffer coat insulated with down-- that did the trick.

I'm sorry your dh has Covid :( and I hope the Paxlovid helps him. I know everyone who took Paxlovid (and I know a lot of people who took it) felt that it absolutely sped up their healing and no one had a rebound either.

Yes those puffer coats with down really do work. I remember when I was younger I was very resistant to wearing anything but cloth coats but the reality of needing to stay warm won out and I never looked back. I will definitely share a photo when it arrives. Healing vibes to your dh and hope you stay well

Thanks, Missy.
I had a rebound with Paxlovid. And my symptoms were worse the 2nd time around.
My daughter took Paxlovid and didn't have a rebound.

I wish Patagonia would make longer coats and jackets in their micro puff line. I have a micro puff jacket and I was toasty warm in a snow storm at -11 degrees. I believe their longest coat comes just above the knees and it's made from recycled down (extra points for using recycled down). Patagonia is an option for those whose primary concern is function rather than fashion as they produce mostly solid colors.

Love Patagonia. They’re great coats and last forever. Greg still has two that he used to go hiking and camping with when he was younger. Still in great condition. And yes I agree it would be great in longer lengths.

This one is super pretty too but not my size. However if anyone is a small (runs big so probably more like a medium) it’s on Poshmark for a great price fyi

@missy Do you find this style runs big? I'm considering a long winter puffy coat, and if I find one of these on sale, I'd consider it. My SIL has one from Aritzia that she adores—long, like the one you own, and really warm. I haven't tried on either of them, so I'm still in shopping mode rather than buy-it-right-now mode. :D

I do find it runs slightly large but if you tend to layer under your coats I’d advise you to err on the side of going with your actual size so you can layer comfortably. But if you don’t layer go one size smaller. I wear just a sweater or turtleneck under my winter coats and find in this brand XXS fits me perfectly but the XS is a bit large. Hope that helps

HI SB:

I am not @missy but we do share winter-ware tid-bits. LOL.

I did not buy without trying the product on. And good on that, because I would have made a mistake in sizing. And as for comfort/utility--I spent more than my "usual" amount of time wondering if this was a coat for me. I love my long parka--it will last and last and last.

Both brands are well represented in shopping centers. Options. And as Spring collections are now in, I suspect you "will" be able to find a "out" going season discount?

cheers--Sharon

Try Landsend. They make a longer type coat and they are having a sale right now. IMG_3095.pngIMG_3096.png

@canuk-gal What would your sizing mistake have been? Do you find the coat (if it's the same make/style as missy's) fits larger or smaller than the stated size?
