Just giving you a bump, one of our Wisconsinites might have a recommendation for you! If you do need to mail, USPS registered is very safe and your item is insured up to 25k I believe - it is slow but very secure as the package is under lock and key when not moving and has to be signed for whenever it changes hands.Date: 1/23/2009 10:48:20 PM

There are no Appraisers listed in Wisconsin, so I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good one? I live in Milwaukee, but would be willing to drive. I might end up just mailing it if thats easiest, but the mail always scares me a bit. Thanks for the help!
Per the US Postal Service website, you can send Priority Mail, registered and insured for a few dollars more, 2 to 3 days delivery to most locations. I found this out after sending my diamond to Brian in Texas for recutting. I did not send Priority, but it got there on the third day anyway.Date: 1/24/2009 4:04:03 AM

Not that I doubt what you are saying, but how can the PO charge extra for Registered Priority (2-3 day) it that is the case?? Seems that they wouldn''t offer the choice (??)Date: 1/24/2009 9:53:02 AM

Registered 1st class and Registered Priority travel in the same bag so you don’t up the speed by this change. Because of the security, registered mail travels slower than regular mail and it gets signed for at every step along the route. It’s slower but it’s not so bad. For example. I received one on Thursday that was posted from NYC on Tuesday. That''s a little faster than usual. I got one yesterday (Friday) that left San Diego the previous Friday and this was a bit slow but this included a holiday weekend. It varies a little bit depending on where you are but from a US address and to a US address is usually less than 5 business days and often it’s 2-3.

That’s a question for your postmaster. When I ask mine, the answer boils down to “because they can”.
