I had the same impression. Your cameo reminds of me of Roman busts - deeply carved, front facing is rarer to see - it seems like an older style and yours seems Italian. You could search on the hairstyle, jewelry the person is wearing and facial features- but I’m not an expert. I cannot wait to hear your impressions and see your photos when it arrives.
Here’s a mid 19th Century Bacchante front facing bust from Italy. It’s possible yours is older since it’s not as finely carved as the one I link to although just as interesting.

I’d love mine to be very very old (the older, the better!). Seller assumes 1860-1880, which was the height of Etruscan Revival style, from what I could find online. I wish I could get a more precise date.
