yellow or green emerald cut engagement ring help?

Is there a general rule for hand/finger shape and diamond shape?

not sure there is-- there are some guides to finger coverage though!

as for my search -- marquise is out! i tried several and learned that while very elegant and elongating, there's something that feels dated (maybe vintage) to me? and I don't think the long thin-ness is flattering. I just get so much more excited about emerald / square / oval. so that's where I'll remain!

I like the stone in that one so much, Niel but it looks just somehow too flashy for me. I've looked at other settings that have more air between the halos and somehow that makes it a little more delicate? Or feminine? Plus it adds finger coverage!

Tonight my FH had "the convo" with my dad so we are now all set to pick the ring and formalize our engagement! Excited but impatient!

Oh how exciting! I know what you mean about the double halo. I've seen some neat ones DBL did where there was like a step up from the first and second halo. I always thought that was cool.

Wonder if there's a term for the halo spacing? Need to hunt through the DBL site for examples but not sure what to search beyond double halo!

That's so pretty. I like the separation of the 2 colored halos and feel like that makes it less "wall of bling" for sure

A bit more research revealed the word "airline" to me here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/setting-double-halo-spaced-round-in-squarish-shape.78021/ I love the way that one looks though I thought mrssalvo an decodelighted had good points about it being too much with a larger stone. Lots to think about!

thats so fun, movie zombie!

I am a techie myself so it's funny to see princess. I do see some correlation here! but given that my preferences have changed a bit it'll be fun to see where I end up!

Haha I don't think they corelate but interesting to read. Easy way to prove that wrong is to get all the shapes! Lol.

Out of curiosity, where does this come from? I have a princess and wanted nothing else...and the princess description fits me to a T. I'm not an engineer or in a tech job, but I consider myself a techie geek for sure.

no idea!! it's fun though. not even sure what to think of this thread now and my want for yellow e-rings! my brownie news has taken over my brains

I know your in the middle of doing things with brownie, but have you considered the yellow diamond ring Phoenix is selling? Should be around you budget and its a nice light yellow square in a big beautiful halo. And its VC!

Hi Niel-- link? Can't find it. Appreciate your help. While i feel fortunate re brownie, I'm a bit frustrated by how it has stirred up so many strong opinions from family and friends and even here. also im upset that all the madness has shifted timeline / focus for my e-ring and totally confused me on what I want. I feel like I need mind wipe or something

chat, unasked for advice: quit posting in the Big Brownie thread and it will go the way of the dodo. also, start posting about the stones you are viewing and considering in this thread. don't respond to posts re Big Brownie. do what YOU need to do get this back on track re the e-ring you've dreamed of and desire. and with family? tell them its not open for discussion, you and your soon to be fiancé are handling it and if you need their input you'll ask for it. then each and every time someone brings it up just tell them again. repeat Repeat REPEAT. it works.

Wow. wow wow.

Not usually my style at all, but lordy, that is stunning *fans self*

i'm over the moon for what Niel just shared. it's one of the only things i've seen that really looks like it would flatter my hand and feels 'classic' but also modern. since hearing that the double halo i love with an airline looks more like a cocktail ring with a yellow-er diamond, i'm afraid of it. But this one omg! i wish there was more info on the stone in hers!

Which? I assume the VC one? If so Phoenix has a thread over in the preloved section. I'm sure shed give you as much info as she had. (It even has white prongs like you wanted)

They have a return period at JBEG. Its three says but I bet if you ask for a little more to make sure you can size it to your finger size, they might be flexible. I've heard they have been in the past.

chat, an e-ring can look any which way you want it to! don't worry [too much] about it looking like a cocktail ring! if it makes your heart sing every time you wear it, well, that is what counts! admittedly, I think some settings could be a bit over the top but at the end of the day you're not getting an e-ring to please anyone but yourself.

I will mention this: commitment problem. no, not with your fiancé. but with a stone and/or setting. there is so much out there. so many choices. it gets overwhelming. take it a day at a time. I started out looking at diamonds and then moved to color stones. didn't take long to discover my spess and when I saw it IRL it was all over....the hunt, I mean. HOWEVER, and it really was a big however, it took me about 6 months to commit to a setting!!!!!!!!! and even then I had doubts.

take your time. see as many pictures IRL and on the internet as you can. keep asking questions. learn as much as you can. then and only then try and make a decision.

you've got a lot of help here looking for settings and stones. you're going to find the "it" stone and setting and you'll know them when you see them!

and it really is lots of fun helping you shop  we do love our bling **** here at pricescope! any excuse for more more more!

If you are referring to the Victor Canera ring here is the thread on it - https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-victor-canera-ring-check-it-out.168047/

And another before it was set - https://www.pricescope.com/communit...tting-ideas-for-my-1-53ct-w-x-cushion.166825/

here is the thread where he picked the stone, i cant remember the mm of what he went with you can go over the thread, but it was around a ct is all, nothing enormous (by ps standards )

im glad you like that, as i think its done in a way that really flatters the stone, and doesnt look too cocktail (as you know some double halos can )

I'm not sure that K is going to be noticeably yellow, if that's what you are going for. There won't be much of a contrast between the centre stone and the melee.

Here is my marquise. Sold to me as a k-l. I suspect even lower than that. Unfortunately its not going to be as yellow as your thinking.

i kind of like this one http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.01-carat-k-color-vs2-clarity-sku-212637 -- K color looks ever so slightly yellow but not blatantly so. i feel like with an 'airline' (small space in the halos) the similar ring to readytolearn's fiance would work quite well. any thoughts on getting this from David at DBL? possible?
DBL will definitely be able to make the ring for you, they make a lot of double halos. Here's a thread that you may find helpful:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-rhr-double-halo-yellow-diamond-ring.157408/

I do think you need to see in person to decide on whether a K, W-Z, or FLY will work for you, and I also think that DBL would be a great place to do that as well. I personally don't think a K will appear to be a warmer, less white diamond - but will probably not read as yellow. I will say that when I was looking at yellow diamonds I thought I preferred Fancy Light Yellow based on photos I'd seen on the internet, but when I saw yellow diamonds in person the FLY were too light for me and I decided to step up to Fancy Yellow.

Sorry - meant to read I personally DO think a K will appear warmer & less white, but not necessarily light yellow.

Nah, not that I know of. Some do like to have "good coverage" meaning that they want a certain proportion of their finger covered, but I have never heard of matching a finger shape to a diamond shape. Aren't most fingers roughly the same, some thicker than others?

Though, if you want to elongate the finger, I would recommend an oval or marquise--I think they do accomplish that, but there is no rule that you should get one of those shapes if you have a shorter finger.

A pear also tends to elongate the finger, and they have very good face-up size for their carat weight (assuming they are not cut too deep.)
