You don't like it?

Re: 1.15 ct round diamond on six prong setting - keep or ret

What's wrong with it? We need more details.

In itself it's a classic and elegant ring that can be combined and stacked in various ways. Is the ring not to your tadte and liking?

Re: 1.15 ct round diamond on six prong setting - keep or ret

Why would you consider returning it?

Hey thanks for your comments. this is the first ring i've bought and i'm not familiar with jewelry so i just wanted to make sure it looked good before giving it to my SO.

If anyone is curious the rings features: 1.15 Round, gia ex cut, si1, i color, 60/60,

seems like everyone likes it so i will prob keep it.

My SO wanted something with small diamonds all around the band but i like the cleaner look of this solitaire and the symmetry of the six prongs, so i went with this. i hope she's still happy with it.

Like the other person said we can build on this with other rings, in later years.

I would make sure and give it to her within the time allowed for returns just in case she doesn't love it. I'd be really upset if my DH thought it was more important that he like a piece of jewelry more than I did.

Agreed. She's the one who's going to wear it, why didn't her preferences count here?

Ditto to the above. Remember, she's the one that has to wear it. I'd make sure that she likes it and can still be returned if she doesn't so that it doesn't end up sitting in a jewelry box unworn and unloved. Unless there is a financial reason to not get the setting she wants at this time and there is a promise to reset it later when able.

Agree with you 100% about the cleaner look of the solitaire setting and additional stacking bands.

Take her to a jeweler to try on an eternity band with the solitaire ring. Try various styles and sizes (diamond ctw). Whatever she likes may become her anniversary band. :naughty:

Re: 1.15 ct round diamond on six prong setting - keep or ret

Sorry, i forgot to mention that that's what she initially wanted but i showed her some solitaries and she changed her opinion and agreed that this look is better. She actually asked for a solitaire. The only thing she was indifferent about was six vs four prongs - the jeweler store we went to did not do a great six prong.

I think some women at first think its better to a ring with diamonds all around b/c it means more carats.... but i told her it's better to have a great diamond stand alone rather than be drowned by surrounding noise of smaller diamonds. I have a friend who has a setting with diamonds and she loved the solitare over her own.

My SO added 'hey the solitare's cheaper so you can afford a bigger rock right' :)

I bumped up my 1 ct to a 1.15 with the savings.

The only debate now is that she is sure she is a size 5.5 and this is a size 6. I'm debating weather or not to get it resized for $30. Worried it might damage the band.

Re: 1.15 ct round diamond on six prong setting - keep or ret

Don't try to guess her finger size. Have her finger measured by a local jeweler first. In addition, if she plans to stack her solitaire with one or more rings, she should take the combo into consideration. With stacking, the ring can be slightly larger. The amount of resizing also depends on the shape/thickness of her finger between bottom and knuckle (uniform thickness, or narrow at bottom, or narrow near knuckle), and time of the year (warm summer or cold winter).

1/2 size may be too much, especially for the top-heavy solitaire ring. She may find her diamond ending up in her palm.

Thanks. I'm a little hesitant to visit a jewler for a measurement only. I feel like that's taking advantage of them.

However, blue nile sent me a measurement tool so i'll try that on her.

Good call.

It's beautiful - I'm guessing she is going to love it! Its classic, timeless and versatile in terms of pairing bands with it. You did a wonderful job!

Re: 1.15 ct round diamond on six prong setting - keep or ret

I prefer a plain shank myself - I love it! Classic! Always in style. When's the proposal. People are right that she'll no doubt love it, but if she really wants diamonds on the band it's better to know now, during the return window.

My sister and i are brainstorming proposal ideas right now... The trend is a public engagement with lots of ppl, this was confirmed by a recent wsj article about high school prom requests - public and social media heavy. Personally, I think proposal should be private but i think she'd want it with her friends. It's going to take some planning.

Perhaps you could plan a private proposal just prior to a big surprise engagement party. Then you could walk in together as an engaged couple. You would get your privacy and she would get her party.

A solitaire is beautiful and timeless so I'm sure she will love it!

I agree with Jimmianne, sounds like the best of both worlds - a private proposal so you have your special moment together as a couple and then celebrate with all your nearest and dearest. I too personally prefer a private proposal but that's just me :)
