My original (in avatar), when we got engaged/married, was a 2 ct solitaire on a WG channel set band with princess cuts and a matching channel set wedding band. 18 years and 4 kids later, along with 40lbs of weight gain and 100lbs of weight loss... my poor original had been beaten up, resized so many times... it needed to go down another half a size this year and they told me the channels couldn’t handle any more. I was also sick of the high profile of my solitaire, and the “two rings” thing, always trying to keep them aligned, etc. My husband told me “it’s been 18 years! Pick out something new—anything you want.”

I’d been dreaming of an anniversary 3-stone using my original diamond as the center. I wanted something very simple and classic, no trellis work, clean straight lines, four prongs to square out the stones a bit, and with side stones that would be small enough to let my original stone take center stage. Everyone tried to talk me into a 75% ratio but I knew 0.50 on each side (62ish%) was gonna be the ticket, and once I saw it set... wow. It’s perfect

18k white gold setting, size 4
Center stone: 2.02 G VS2
Side stones: 0.52/0.53 G VS2
Claw prongs, outside prongs of the side stones set closer to the band to help it look a little more tapered
Setting and side diamonds/reset by Joe Escobar Diamonds in CA (they were absolutely lovely, and I’m a customer for life).

I can’t stop looking at it!

Oh my, what a beautiful ring!!

Are you going to pair it with your original band? Or have your princess cuts made into an eternity ring?

Well how fun to design such a lovely reset! I love that you were able to keep your original center stone, and I agree, the smaller sides look absolutely amazing with your keystone in that proportion.

Your jeweler did a great job designing what you wanted - clean, minimal, easy to wear.

Congratulations on your anniversary, and such a beautiful ring to go along with it.

I decided after all these years that I really didn’t like wearing two rings stacked together on the same finger, so my goal was really to just get one “wedding ring” that also contained my engagement diamond. But an eternity with the old princess cuts would have been a good idea! I was thinking of just keeping them in a drawer, as-is, but I ended up just selling the settings for the value of the materials (not worth more than that, since they’d have to be completely reworked anyway). I was the one who picked out that setting anyway, so it didn’t have any real sentimental value as being something “from” my husband, and he gave me the go-ahead to just trade in!

Everyone knows I have a soft spot for 3-stones and yours is no exception! Beautiful! Congrats on 18 years!!

I saw your other thread about redesigning yours with different proportions! My center stone is 8.1mm and my sides are 5.13/5.16mm, if that helps you make a comparison and envision yours with larger sides.

Well thank you for that information! How sweet of you!

Ha! Yeah, the -100 was a lot more hassle and a lot less fun than the +40, that’s for sure! My kids don’t remember me big anymore. But my poor rings had to go up and down a 3.5 size range, and then another half size recently just from losing some more finger fat getting “old,” I guess!

I kept thinking my pics weren’t nearly as good as most I see on here! I think some of these ladies have amazing skill!

Holy cow!! That looks amazing!!!!! Happy Anniverary!

Having just one ring is SO nice—I’m loving it! I remember when I was engaged, I was so enchanted with the one solo ring thing, and I loved how the diamond’s silhouette was so clear on the finger because you could see the shape of it. With a band below, I feel like some of that gets lost and at certain angles it just looks like “mass of sparkly things.” I was ready to “see” my original stone again! I worried a little that it would look like an ER without a band with it, but I think the sides are big enough that it doesn’t have a solitaire/accent look—it looks like a legit 3 stone. I’m just so happy with how it turned out.

I did get a plain 3mm WG band with milgrain on the edges for wearing when I go running, or when I go the types of places where I don’t want to flash the bling... I feel like this one is a lot more attention-grabbing, and I’m a bit self-conscious about it right now! A couple of times I’ve caught my husband staring at it when I’m trying to talk to him. “Hello, dear, my face is up here!” He said “it’s just so sparkly!” LOL. It’s not even because it’s clean—I was a daily ultrasonic-user before! I think it’s just because it really shines against my skin without the extra band obscuring the edges of the stones.

Lovely upgrade! Happy Anniversary!
