Coming out of lurkdom to get your expert diamond ring opinions. I have a 1.38ct rb in a 6 prong 2mm "Tiffany" plat setting. Should I pair it with a .68 12 stone 2mm half eternity band in plat or a 5 stone 1ct band in 18k white? The price is about the same. What would you do?

Thanks!

I''d go for the 5 stone band.

yep....5 stone.

Thanks! I''m leaning toward the 5 stone. I got the half-eternity today and I was a expecting it to have larger stones but I should have know what they were going to look like. I get the 1.38 tommorow so I''ll see how it looks together before I make my final decision.

One more thing. The 5 stone''s diamonds are set in 18k prongs. Will this be a problem in keeping the stones in the ring?

Thanks again

I''d go with the half eternity myself - got photos?
I have always heard that you should stay with the same metal for two reasons:
1) They will look different over time, as plat goes more gray and wg goes more yellow between polishings/rhodium plating (in the case of the wg)
2) The plat can wear down the wg (not sure why, guess it is harder, several jewelers have told me this as I have a wg diamond band from my old set that I like to wear sometimes with my plat e-ring!)
good luck - you can''t go wrong. that''s the beauty of the tiff style setting, almost anything looks good with it (as long as the height is similar!)

I would go with the 12-stone half eternity. I love the look of smaller stones with a solitaire.

A 5 stone band with a total ct wt of 1 ct means the stones are 20 points each.

A 12 stone band with a total ct wt of .68 ct means the stones are about 5.5 points each.

My choice: the 12 stone band.

I have a 5 stone band with a total ct wt of .75ct (stones are 15 points each) and I have tried it on with a 1.25ct sim that I have in a 2mm thin tiffany setting, much like you described. I think the 15 point stones take away from the center. My eternity band that has 4 point stones looks much nicer with it.

I think the 5 stone band would look better on its own, not competing with your solitaire.

Thanks for all of your replies! It was my thought originally that the five stone might take away from the solitaire so that''s why I got the half-eternity. Maybe I''ll just have to get another one to stack on the other side of the solitaire! I''ll try to post the pictures tommorow. My solitaire will be here by noon!
