1ct + ring for circa €2000? Impossible?

Oh wow that is amazing!! It is sold already, I’m following that account now it seems fabulous!!

She typically posts at 5pm eastern time, and her stuff goes quick. She deletes the price when a piece sells, but I believe this one was $2600.

Thank you! That is one fabulous ring!! I don’t think I’d be comfortable with less than SI1, colour I’d be a bit more flexible on! I’m amazed at all the sources you guys have!!

So I’ve taken all your advice and decided to reach out to some local jewellers. One that I have very fond memories of has a 1.80 carat j colour si2 OEC that is looking like a very good choice, it’s over double the budget but I can see it in person and it does seem like very good value at in and around the €5500 mark. They will let me pay it off and will also look at some of my rings I’m looking to sell. I haven’t got pictures I can share just yet but does anyone have any insight to the clarity and colour? I’ve never gotten less than si1 and i colour!

Oh please post pics before you make a decision. There are a lot of OEC experts on PS. Personally I’m a newbie, but I have been studying.

Does the center diamond have a certificate? J color should face up white. The true color of the diamond should be judged from the bottom. So definitely look at the bottom and take a picture of the bottom of the diamond if you can.

I almost bought an uncerted OEC. The very established jeweler sworn up and down that it was an M/ VS stone. When I posted pictures many Ps’ers thought that it looked darker than an M. When I went back to see the “M” again, I had the jeweler show me a certified J and N. Here’s the comparison:

Clarity wise you will just SI2 you will just have to judge with your eyes to see if the stone is eye clean. If it is, look at the stone through a loupe to make sure you don’t see anything alarming.

Sorry, I don’t mean to make you paranoid but you want to pay the right price based on the true color and clarity. I just bought a true certified M OEC and love it.

Can’t wait to see pics of the diamond/ ring.

*also it’s helpful to get approximate diameter and depth of the center stone

J will be slightly warm, but in a cut like an OEC it should look relatively white. SI2 clarity needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis. For example, a SI2 without many inclusions on the clarity plot but a note of “clarity grade based on clouds not shown” is a huge red flag that the diamond may have a cloudy appearance, leading to poor light return. A SI2 with some well spaced inclusions that are not surface breaking or in an obvious spot (like a black inclusion on the table would be quite apparent) could be a good choice.
For an engagement ring, most people recommend a minimum of SI1 or VS2 however, for a SI2 if you can share the cert, some up close pictures and find it to be eye clean in person, it could be a good value.

Thank you so much for this, this is so helpful! The jewellers is a very well established and well respected one, so that reassures me. I won’t be making any snap decisions, and he made it really clear that the specifications might not be for me. I’ll definitely be showing pictures! He also said if I do purchase and change me mind within a specified time I can return it.

I think the clarity will be really important to me, the colour I think I’ll be able to manage! I’m excited but very nervous!

So these are some pictures from the video he sent me, I can’t wait to see it! B8D2A862-9645-4B92-B735-E323E7DFC9F7.jpeg

oh my :kiss2:

What do you think?!!!!!
May we also see your engagement ring since you’ll be wearing one on each hand?

:clap:Gorg! Is this THE ring? Is the 1.80 J eliminated?

I LOVE it!! I don’t really wear my engagement ring much but will be keeping it for sentimental reasons. I have a right hand ring that I’m going to be wearing with it, it’s a bit OTT but I love it! Ps I love old and retro jewellery! CD98D7E3-22DE-4EA3-A257-F78FCCECF4F2.jpeg

I know!!! WAAAY over budget but I’ve decided to sell my other rings to allow for this. I also liked that if at any stage I want to upgrade again he will give me almost all of what I paid for it to buy the next. I think this is the ring! The other was beautiful but I could see why it was SI 2. There were feathers in a couple of corners and it would have driven me mad! The top is the one I’m thinking of buying!

@weemie the cut of the 1.61 look way better than the 1.80, too! Please post vid if you can. And diamond dimensions if you can get them. I am wondering what the depth of the 1.61 is.

Btw, love your gypsy rhr!

Thank you! Do you think it looks small for 1.6? Maybe too deep and not wide enough? I do have big hands.....

@weemie I’m the wrong person to ask. I have big hands, too!

Get the measurements of the diamond and we can figure it out. I hope it works bc it looks a beautiful diamond!

Oh Weldons is an institution here and there’s the Jewellery quarter off Grafton St but it’s very expensive! There’s one shop in the Powerscourt centre called Delphi antiques, it’s FABULOUS! They’re on Instagram

Matty Weldon (think he's the brother or cousin of the owner of JW Weldons) in powers court has some slight flex in his prices. He's also super nice, which wasn't my experience with all the shops there. Not like souk haggling flex but if something is close to budget, you could try asking. His shop is on the street level floor.

Edit: sorry I just saw that you found your future ring! It looks lovely, the setting is so dainty and detailed.

No no no, your chosen is gorgeous! I just had started a reply earlier in the day and hadn't seen your updates. I really do think old cuts need to be seen in person as light performance is just one aspect of their charm.
