3 stone to 5 stone: the journey of an EC

And this is the story of the ever-growing Franken Ring.

My original e-ring was a gorgeous 2.02 EC with delicate baguettes. I loved it. It was perfect…. But…. I wanted bigger baguettes. So I got bigger baguettes, it changed the silhouette, but I liked the extra sparkle.

Then I learned about Pricescope and I discovered the 5 stone ring. What was this gorgeous combination? I was smitten. So I had some traps added. Unfortunately, the traps had a lot of fluorescence and were really cloudy, so they were exchanged. The new traps are a tiny bit bigger with slightly different proportions… so here's the final result.

I've kinda lost the shape of the emerald cut completely. I got blinded by more, more, more... even though I miss the simple elegance of my original ring... I am enjoying all this bling.

What no one tells you about a 5 stone ring is that the baguettes are often covered by fingers, so you really only see 3.

Let me know what you think.

1st ring - simple elegance

2nd ring - larger baguettes

3rd ring - cloudy traps added

Final ring - better traps

Beautiful! Thanks for showing us the evolution of your ring. It was beautiful at all stages. Enjoy!

Your ring is gorgeous at all stages, but the 5-stone is my fav! Love

Each design is a different look and only you can decide which one appeals most to you. The last version looks great to me. It's a blingy ring. I would not wear it in this stack because it's a big look on its own. Perhaps having a very thin WB will better compliment the ring.

Beautiful Emeraldiamondcity! A five stone ring is one of my favorite settings for an emerald/asscher!

Although I normally like 5 stone rings, they have an ability to go 'off the rails' with size. While I like the overall idea of your 5 stone, I feel as tho it's sitting far too wide for the 2 rings beneath it, swamping them as a result and leaving little cohesion between the three. Consequently, I'd probably wear it as a stand alone ring, because it's a BIG look, and big rings often don't play well with others.

If it were mine, I'd be setting it with only the traps (which I love, btw, and which are a perfect proportion to your center stone). I think it would make more of the center stone, rather than obscuring it, and the overall shape would contrast and complement nicely with your other rings - especially that GORGEOUS emerald cut eternity. I'd also be looking for a more delicate setting with less metal and finer prongs, which lifted the traps a little higher, rather than having them sitting so far beneath your lovely center stone.

The problem with tapered baguettes and a baguette eternity, to my eye, is that the tapered baguettes are very close in appearance...but not actually the same. Ergo, they don't work well with each other. The traps and the EC, on the other hand, would give you a very flattering overall shape which would look perfect with a fine line of diamond beneath it.

On the other hand - this is YOUR ring, and it seems as though you liked your first iteration the best. You mentioned that you've lost the shape of the emerald almost entirely - would you rather it was more pronounced? I suspect if it isn't *exactly* what you want at this point, as time goes by it will probably bother you increasingly.

To be clear - I like your new ring. I just think it's a stand alone ring and could do with finer prongs and with the stones flowing from each other on a more level plane so it's a smoother, more elegant stretch across your finger. I also think less metal in the setting would reveal the shape of your EC more. And that can only be a good thing. :)

I love the new ring! Big and blingy... what's not to love. I'm not keen on wearing it stacked though. That's just me. I think a thin white gold/platinum band is all I would wear with it. That ring commands center stage and the bigger bands worn with it aren't doing for me. But that's just me, I'm only dreaming of ever owning such a fabulous EC.
Enjoy your ring. It's beautiful.

Hi Guys - thank you so much for your fantastic comments. I really value your opinions, and I actually agree with everything you said. I would like finer prongs, but I don't think my jeweler can make them any smaller. He's made all my rings, and I always ask for smaller prongs and they always come back looking like this. I'm a real pain in his ass with my rings and he'd probably kill me if I took it back to him and asked him to change something else.

Also, I know the center stone is set high, but that was by request. I prefer the center stone to pop up, but also, if the center stone and traps were more level the ring would be wider across and it's already wider than my finger.

I think it's gorgeous! I love seeing the evolution of your gorgeous ring!

I love it - bling away!!!

I loved seeing all the different settings! Beautiful emerald cut diamond, too!

LOVE your ring!!!:love::love: It turned out beautifully and looks amazing on you!!

Enjoy your current setting. It's beautiful and seriously blingy!! We all go through phases, which is probably why so many of us reset. And if and when your tastes change again, we may see another iteration. If anywhere at all, it's definitely acceptable on PS. :mrgreen2:

I'm biased I like the traps the best!!!!

I like seeing the changes in your ring. They are all gorgeous. I am sure your have a fireball on your finger. Very pretty.

Love the evolution pictures. It's really interesting for comparison. I adore the final setting & love everything about it. I am personally a simple girl by heart, so the original setting would be the one I would keep, but the new one is magnificent!

Love seeing all the different setting styles! Very pretty!
