4.2 carat I Pear - Concerns about setting in platinum due to warmth?

I just purchased a GIA certified pear, a little over 4 carats (excellent polish, symmetry, no fluorescence, cut looks great) and am wondering whether setting it in a platinum halo setting would look strange? I wish I'd done a little more research on color before buying, as I've since had a few friends tell me not to set it in platinum due to the visible warmth that an I color of that size will have. Is it wise to see if I can return it and select a stone with higher color?

My dream setting would be very similar to the image below (I would do H-I color pave stones), however now I'm reconsidering whether a more simple gold setting would put less emphasis on the tint in the stone.

Any opinions or advice are greatly appreciated!

I have a H round stone and you hardly notice the color at all except set next to a whiter stone. Its set in palladium.

I don’t think an I is going to be too warm to set in platinum at all for my taste, especially if you plan to use H-I melee around it! I think you might need to see it yourself to be sure since I is a range (you could have a stone that looks whiter like an H or yellower like a J). I find I to be a sweet spot in terms of colour personally. I have a family member who haloed her (sizeable - I’m remembering it as close to 5) I coloured pear in WG and I just thought it looked white and sparkly though I didn’t scrutinise it obviously. Best of luck! I’m sure your ring will be GORGEOUS!

I think it will look beautiful! As long as you are going with H/I for your side stones your center stone will look nice and white.

I guess it depends on how color sensitive you are when it comes to color. Does your friends actually have an I color stone to compare to say that? You can take a look yourself to see if you can tell the difference.

A round a pear show color very differently.

I dont think white gold vs platinum will make a difference if thats what you are asking. I think plat will be a better choice then rhodium
plated white gold.

It really depends on how your stone shows (or doesnt show color). Do you have a link to videos or can you post up close pictures?

So what did you decide?

An I color will definitely be evident in that size, especially concentrated at the tip. If you didn’t go with platinum, what were you thinking? White gold will be too bright. Plat gets a patina that will work, but know an I in that size is what it is. However, more important to reconsider IMO is adding a halo to that size diamond. A halo makes a significant impact in size. People are often like oh wow, it looks so much larger! Have you ever worn a stone as large as 4ct?
