Need opinion help.

What will be the price of a 49 carats natural unburnt Mogok Royal Blue Sapphire worth in the States ?

Stone is pure royal blue color with minor feather and silk inclusions. On a direction view, distinct angled silk prominently visible.

good depth and excellent proportion and cutting.

Okay I am game - for a WAG - $30,000 per ct or about 1.5 million dollars based on this link

Just curious, why are you asking?
Are you buying, or selling?

Part Gypsy, No, I am neither buying or selling. Just wish to see the current market price for this size of stone.
Man.

My stones is more beautiful than the link.

Man.

Pls. tell how to put in a picture here ?

Man.

Wow! Quickly post the pic!!! I wana see...49ct giant. Amazing. The stone from the link is already very nicee

What other giants do you have? 49ct Sapphire, 44ct diamond,

Hmmm...47ct ruby and 42 ct emerald!! Show us your other biggies.
Cool.

Something is telling me that setting that sort of price tag (ref. Bertrand''s post) is easier than cashing it... but, why not. There are certainly fewer gems like that than potential buyers and I have seen very fine pieces sold on less likely markets.

Good luck, by all means.

What a fantastic stone. I''d love to have it cut into heart-shape.

Good Lord! If this stone is for real then the price can only be in the astonomical catagory.

I personally own a 10 carat natural Bumese with a light colour but of an almost almost flawless crystalline nature.
It has been evaluated at over 200,000 smackers.

What a gorgeous stone you have there. The colour is very nice.

I am presently looking for 50 carat stones but I don''t think I can afford this one.

Sasori,

Tks. Yap, got little more. 1 at a time. Can expert guide on price ?

1 Bad point is on one-angle view, prominent silk flashes.

What will be the price for this ?

Man.

P.S. will place pic of dia. on Monday.

Mr. Cave Keeper,

Cutting this already loose much wt. Heart ???

Remaining rough has a large fine Cab too.

Man.

Mandalay,

Seems like a very fine stone. The image appears a bit fuzzy. Do I see a pronounced multicolor effect (dichroic effect) in the stone?

Difficult with any accuracy to estimate the price of a gem based on an image. Hoever, the gem shown on the link above would seem to me to be overpriced at 30k per carat. The AGL cert grades the color at 4.5, which in the colorscan system is less than fine and notes a strong dichoric (two-tone) effect and a distinct 15% gray mask.

Check out the book link below, my chapter on connoisseurship in blue sapphire is available free online.

Sasori,

Hmmm...47ct ruby. Burma no Emerald.

Maybe. Rough 10 times this size. Down part transparent clear and clean. Hope for a good one. But have not decide to cut it yet. Keeping for 2 years long.

Wow! You must be the richest man in Burma. It''s a wonder why no lady in this forum has yet to propose to be one of your many wives. How many (wives) do you have at this moment?[$$)]

Care to post a picture of that one pound ruby rough? What is the color like? Is it from Mogok? Is it a heated stone?

Beauty of the internet... getting abit sentimental here.

If not for Pricescope,
1) I won''t have known the existence/least to say, seen such big stones.
2) I won''t have been able to afford an ideal cut diamond for my wife-to-be.
3) I wont be able to know so much about precious/semi precious stones

BUT
If not for Pricescope,
I wont have been so poor, spending so much on my collection of stones!!!

Interesting...

'there were no bidders for the 486.52-carat "Blue Giant of the Orient", but Christie's was able to sell it immediately after the auction for $1 million, citing the Colored Stone magazine, May 2004) - see LINK.

Another 478.68 ct; faceted blue cushion mounted in Cartier pendant, unheated; sold at Christie’s Geneva, Nov. 19, 2003 (Sale No. 1312; Lot No. 382) for $1,494,480; previously owned by Queen Marie of Romania.

Another 100cts cushion shaped sapphire goes for half this year LINK.

There is a list of such things on an irreverent page by Richard Hughes HERE

The piece you mention, like yours must be quite magnificent in other ways but size and (probably more important) the best listed at the point.

Interesting...

Christies'' sold one piece near 500 carats for that much last year (there were no bidders for the 486.52-carat ''Blue Giant of the Orient'', but Christie''s was able to sell it immediately after the auction for $1 million, citing the Colored Stone magazine, May 2004) - see LINK.

Valerie101, could you please clarify exactly which one you''re refering to as the best listed at this point?

''Blue Giant of the Orient'' - what an unpoetic name. I wish I had bought that stone if I knew about its availability at under a million dollars then, so that I could rename it! A ''Star of "whatever"'' sounds nicer. Must a stone be a star stone in order to be called ''Star of "whatever"''?

Does anyone has the New York December 8th Auction catalog/book ? is this 40 Carats stone good color ? Clarity ?

Which auction house? I did a search on Sotheby''s, and no catalog came up.

I did find this at Christies: Ceylon sapphire, unheated, 100cts.

Estimated value: $350,000-500,000.

Sure that. Now, I can''t say I did the most thorough research in history (probably you did), but regardless - since the beginning of last year there do not seem to have been any sapphire near 50 cts of the very finest quality. The most expensive on auction records were a Pad (at christies) and one blue Kashmir in a necklace also containing a large diamond. The top prices are already cited for the very large pieces on this thread. Your blue may be something that has been missing in action recently, and that can only be good, I guess.

It is probably to much to say ''keep us posted''.

Best of luck!

Man.

The catalog for the December sale is not out yet. You can go to http://www.sothebys.com and register and then request that they notify you when the jewelry catalogs, auction results, etc. become available. They are very prompt with their emails.

Sotheby''s [SALE GE0284 15 Nov. 2001] sold a 58.97 carat step cut sapphire [set in a ring but the diamonds around it are minor] for 2,538,750 CHF. The reports stated that the sapphire is of Burmese origin with no indications of thermal enhancement.

Their commentary goes on to say that "Burmese sapphires of fine colour, free from enhancement by any form of treatment and with an absence of eye-visible imperfections in the crystal, are extraordinarily rare. This superb stone is most probably from the Mogok stone tract in Myanmar, source of some of the finest sapphires.
Sapphires of comparable quality might include the gem of 25 carats sold here in May last year for CHF 1328750 ($780000 or just over $30000 per carat), and the 62 carat "Rockefeller Sapphire" sold four times at auction since 1970, most recently for $3031000 or nearly $49000 per carat."

If you register at the sotheby''s site you can then do an advanced search for auction results back to 2001 with "sapphire" as the search term and you will find it. Sort according to decreasing price.

Hope this helps.

I tried to capture the photo but the site is not cooperating. Sorry.

Terri Hatcher had a borrowed sapphire about that size on her finger during the emmys the other week. I don''t know what the origin of the sapphire was but I think the ring was from Neil Lane.

Hi,

Could anyone give an opinion guess as to how much the base minimum auction price one auction house would value this stone ??? Thanks.

Man.
