Hi everyone!

So i need to design a ring in the next few months. I have the center stone already, and its ~4ct... I found a ring that the girl likes ( https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/victor-canera-rb-halo-ring-my-forever-setting-finally.164262/)

But the only problem, its a 2.3 ct with a halo. My stone is a 4ct!!! Im just not sure that a 4ct will look good with a halo. If you could help provide some ideas that would be greatly appreciated.

I should note, im not looking to take any of your designs, im really looking for a direction to go in (ie halo or not, prongs, pave, etc)

do you know what size the ring will be?

It will look great in a halo. Here is one of my favourite rings, done also by VC, and its 5ct in a halo. Only you/her can decide if that is too big. I'm not personally a halo fan, but if done right, it looks amazing! If thats what she likes, then thats what she likes.

Center stone is a little more than 4, and then total weight will depending on whatever design i decide. Could be up to ~5? not sure.. Depending on what she wants in the halo and/or around the rest of the ring. Just trying to be able to present a few options to her friends/parents to see what they may think she would like. :angel:

As for size, i should know this by now.. but i dont.. I should get on that shouldnt i...

The question you need to answer is whether she loves that particular setting because it's a halo, or because of its overall size/presence.

If she likes the size of the one you linked to but is not attached to having a halo per se, you could choose a setting with pavé on the shank and gallery for a similar look that would have similar presence. I personally prefer 3ct+ as a solitaire, but it's really about what she likes.

If she loves halos, I'd halo!

A 4ct stone in a halo is a large look which will appear differently on size 5 vs size 8 finger. The stone alone is at least 10mm diameter plus the width of the halo. You should figure out which size she wears and then consider whether to halo it or just have stones on the gallery or shank.

How did you decide to purchase a 4+ carat diamond? Was that a size that you both preferred? Are her fingers and hands small or on the large size? All of that would probably factor into the finalized ring.

I am sure Victor would adjust the halo in relation to the center stone. He would probably use smaller stones to compliment the larger center stone so it would be done tastefully. My hand size would not tolerate a 4 carat stone let alone a halo but it might be completely different with her. She may want and prefer a much larger ring but I'd make sure of that before I embarked on setting that stone.

I own the ring setting you have pictured above, Frankiextah sold it and then bought a 3.075 Round Brilliant and put that into a Victor halo, the same ring setting except that Victor makes the melee smaller to flatter the size of the centre stone;

m-2-b - has a ring which you can see in the middle of this linked page that has a 5 carat centre stone in a similar halo;

Victor just made a halo for me with a large coloured stone - all you need to do is give him your stone tell him you want that ring and he will make the halo proportional to the size of the stone.

Thank you all for your responses! I will be getting the ring size soon.. i just have to ask my questions carefully and span them out. Dont want her knowing. :tongue:

As for the question about why/how i got this... Its a family stone, it got handed down to me. On a side note, how do i go about finding out the color and whatever else about it? (get it certified?)

I have a 4ct OEC in a halo. I wear it daily. I have about a size 5.5 finger. I don't think it looks too big but that's just me!

It would be a good idea to have someone look at the stone for you. One thought is that if the stone is not well cut, it could be recut to be an ideal cut stone. Or if it is an antique cut, it might could be rehabbed if it has any chips, etc. Can you post some magnified pictures for us? You are going to need some kind of appraisal to get insurance before sending the stone off to be set.

If the VC halo is what she wants, then by all means get that. I would not be talking to family and friends. The more people know, the greater the likelihood someone will tip her off. If the stone ends up being recut, then it may end up smaller anyway.
