5 stone rings, size and settings?

Now that I''ve decided to go for a 5 stone ring, I''ve been looking around at settings.

So far I''m looking at the WF Skye and BGD Nightingale. DH worries these may be too modern looking and won''t match the other classic eternity rings I want to pair with it. I don''t know if that''s true or not but are there any other settings you all think I should look at?

I want something that will be really classic but comfortable since I tend to wear my rings all the time. Sadly, that knocked "Sally" from BGD out of the running due to its knife edge. Luckily, the Nightingale is just like it but with a rounded band. DH likes the Trellis setting from BGD but I worry about stuff getting caught in the crevices like it would in a basket style.

What are everyone''s opinions on the different settings in regards to keeping it clean, safety, and protection of the stones? But we all know it''s about the diamonds

so I want something that will show them in their best light and I want to be able to keep it clean.

Also, how big do you think I can safely go with a size 5 finger?

ok, i have the Skye ring. Love it, love it, love it! It''s easy to clean, and let''s the stones shine! But, I don''t think it''s the safest setting because of the shared prongs. In fact, i had a stone come loose a few months after getting it. Also, I wish I had asked WF to set it a bit lower as it''s too high up for me. The other thing is that you mentioned wanting to wear eternity bands with the 5 stone. Because the Skye is so such an open design, I''d worry about the stones in your eternity rubbing against the skye band. It''s something to consider with that design.

As far as your finger size, one thing I learned is finger shape matters as well. What looks good on someone else''s size 5, may not look good on yours. Your best bet would be to go out and try some eternity bands (or 5 stones if you can find them) in various carat weight and see what looks best.

Both of the rings you've mentioned are u-prong rings, and they are safer choice for you to wear next to other bands than a trellis style ring.

I occasionally wear a trellis style ring on my right hand (by itself), and the girdles do protrude more than on the U-prong styles so it's less practical for daily wear.

The U-prongs shouldn't be problematic next to other rings because the placement of the prongs prevents rubbing.

How hard are you on your hands? A friend of mine works in a hospital and elected to get the stones in her Skye set lower than normal since she's often working with bedding, gloves, etc. She's worn it paired with microwave bands and it looks great that way, so I don't think it's too modern to pair with classic eternity bands you may already own.

With a size 5 finger, I'd say probably .25s or .30s; any bigger and it's likely going to get cumbersome to wear.

Elle, thanks for the heads up on the height of the setting. I may want to set it lower since I spend my days dealing with my kids and doing things around the house. Needless to say, my hands are always busy.

Allison, thank your for your help! I spoke with Liza today and she found some great 30 pointers in F for me that I''m going to drool over tonight. Ahem, and make DH look at them too.

I went to try on rings today at Tiffany''s and the only 5 stone they had was an open gallery design 1.65 ctw. I put an eternity on each side and.....................HOLY COW! I was in LOVE!
