Do you like the color in videos? It's described as grey, but in the video I see purple more than "metallic". To me, some of the options from gemcal are much more "pure" grey, if that's what you want. But if you want pruple/grey then the one from IG might be a good choice.

I do like the color in the video. I was looking at the more grey ones and always think they are nice but when I see the ones with a little purple, I am more intrigued. I probably need to go see some in person. Do you know of any places nearby?

Maybe see if Gemfix is san diego has any (I think you live within driving distance of there!)

Gemfix does not have any on their website. I'll contact them to ask if they have any not listed. Thanks!

I think it's super beautiful but I'm into purple, lavender, & lilac hues right now.

Also, am I the only one that feels like that price is a bit steep for the stone?
I mean it's 5cts, but I would expect it to be more like $1,5k. Am I totally out of touch & prices have risen for gray spinels that used to be cheap or is that on the higher range?

I don't get deals very often. I think they see me coming and up the price. I inquired on a few earlier in the year and they were less per ct.

They most certainly have. Grays used to be cheaper for nice material, but people have fallen in love with the color range. I don't think there are many real deals in spinel anymore.
But, I still love them.

It looks a little dark for my taste. I had some back-and-forth with this vendor about gray spinel ~ 6 months ago but they did not have anything in the size/cut I was looking for at the time. AIG is an OK lab for this purchase, imo.

I've inquired about a few with them as well when I liked the color and cut in the video, but the dimensions ended up being too large or small. The color of this one is appealing to me. I did not typically request price, but did this time and one other time he provided the price. Earlier in the year, they stated they have pretty much every diameter. I just don't really want to "shop" for one. I'd prefer to find one for sale that appeals to me with a decent lab report, reasonable price and no unfavorable characteristics. They did offer to help me send to GIA at my expense. I'm very nervous to purchase from a different country. I wish it were a lower price to make it easier to take the risk. Thank you for your input.

This stone caught my eye to on IG too (but on a buying freeze). I think it's beautiful! It sparkles like you would want a dark colored stone to. I really like the purple in this stone. No comment on the price, as I've never shopped for gray. But 5 cts is the perfect size, imo :kiss2:

I think it’s a little dark honestly. I like the hue - the purple leaning color, but you have to like it, which it seems you do!

I would strongly encourage you to ask for videos in more natural lighting. I know the kind of lighting environment they are taking videos in - it’ll flatter even the most lifeless stone (not implying this is lifeless)

It does seem grey and silver spinels have gotten very pricy due to popularity. This seems commensurate with what I’ve seen! I think it’s a decent price considering the size.

I agree, it is very sparkly and perfect size.

Yes, I do like the color, a lot. What I don't like are the instagram sellers. I feel uncomfortable communicating through Instagram. I don't even have my own account. It is my dog's account, started to keep in touch with her siblings. I'll think about it a bit more then ask for more photos if I decide I would ultimately purchase. Thank you for the input on the price. Good to know that it is in line with the size.

I did a recent search online and found grey spinel prices have increased a bazillion fold, but I would shop around. I think some deals are to be had.

Also, important to note, spinels increase in price exponentially above four carats.

Definitely don’t be shy about pushing them for images and videos. You want to see this stone in the WORST lighting conditions because I can assure you it will not always look this sparkly! Every colored stone changes personality to some degree. So the question is - will you love her at her worst? Hence my comment about the stone being dark - you need to see it in bad lighting bc it may look not so nice compared to this lusty lighting! You’ll have to find out

It’s a big chunk of money so make sure too that it’s money you can afford to lose - I don’t mean for this to sound nefarious, just go into it with eyes wide open - Instagram buying is another ballgame. You do not get the same assurances and white glove service as with many PS vendors. I’d use a credit card thru PayPal so you have a leg to stand on, if you wire money you won’t. Losing money always hurts - and I think it’s unlikely you will but I’ve not worked with this vendor - but I’d assume a return is extremely difficult for your own expectations. I say this with the assumption that this vendor is located abroad relative to you, which can complicate things. Just wanted to mention instead of blindly goading you to score off Instagram - it’s not for everyone
