Did you have vertigo after getting the jab? Do you mean vertigo in the sense that the room seems to spin at 200-300 miles an hour and you can't even get up, you just lie there until the rom stops spinning. It may or may not be accompanied by vomitting (I did not throw up in 2017 but I did when I had the second one in 2018. They were truly truly the two most horrible experiences I've ever had in my entire life.

I also have daily dizziness (swaying, unsteady, feeling like you're in a boat) which I am learning to cope with while I go about my everyday business.

Oh dear, I do occasionally have cold sores, like 2-3 times in my life. I suspect I may have dormant EBV (tested for active which came back negative).

@Phoenix my DH has inner ear problems as well with a horrible crisis like your second one once in 2011 and recurring much much milder incidents every now and then (3x /year, maybe).

He hasn't had any problems whatsoever with the BioNtec/Pfizer vaccine.
I know every case is different, but maybe this information is helpful for you!

What makes you think the negative future side effects of the vaccine will be worse than the future side effects of the virus? Based on science and medical knowledge we only have reason to think any long term symptoms from an mRNA vaccine will be less severe than long term effects from the virus.

You could get an antiviral for the cold sore. You might even consider staying on a low dose as prevention while you get the vaccine and for a bit after. My husband gets occasional cold sores that are worse with lack of sleep and stress. He takes valacyclovir preventively when we are expecting a new baby in the house (as HSV can be catastrophic for them and obviously we are sleep deprived and stressed).

And we totally understand if you were medically advised not to take the vaccine.

It’s the ones who refuse for no good reason that baffles me.

End of the day, imo it’s down to probability:
- 1. Chance of catching covid and dying or suffering some long term effects vs
- 2. Chance of taking the vaccine and suffering some adverse reaction and dying

If chance of #1 is low as the pandemic is well controlled, then why risk #2?

But if #1 is high, then #2 is a much better proposition. Today, we are in a situation where the likelihood of catching covid is high. It will become endemic as the experts say

Also for people who can take the vaccine (ie not medically advised against it), but think that you have some underlying condition that puts you at risk of dying from the vaccination, what makes you think that you will come out of a covid infection in a better state? Chances are, the outcome of an infection will not be favorable for you right?

So I really don’t understand. End of rant.

Yes, it seems that taking the vaccine or getting the virus will not go well for me. I prefer not to get into my specific issues as there are many.

Unfortunately cold sores are caused by a virus so antibiotics won’t help. Some people with severe outbreaks will take anti viral medication. Vertigo from HSV-1 is fairly rare so the odds are that you will be fine.

I had the vertigo constantly for 2 weeks and then it was intermittent for the 3rd week. It was the strangest thing. I could balance on one foot, walk normally etc. Obviously I didn’t drive and I couldn’t work because reading was difficult. I would go to bed at night and even with my eyes closed it would feel like I was on a bus stopping and starting.

The specialist believes that my brain was compensating for the effects of the vertigo. Apparently moving around will train your brain to work around the distorted visual cues. Even though everything was moving I could reliably grab objects in space, prepare dinner, go for a run etc. It felt so strange, but the specialist said it was a good thing. Normally she will prescribe physio appointments, but in my case I’m just supposed to continue being active and repeat any motion that feels abnormal. Like if I have a sudden visual shift while emptying the dishwasher she wants me to repeat the motion 5x.

I have faith that the vaccination process will go well for you! Goodluck.

I know someone who suffered a severe case of vertigo and migraines sometime after her 2nd Pfizer shot. She is slowly recovering but not yet 100%. That being said, neither she nor her doctors think it's related to the vaccine and still looking for the cause. So it was interesting to read the posts here.

Good luck with your vaccine @Phoenix Keep in mind - vertigo is also a known effect of Covid itself so there is further risk in not having the vaccine (in fact, they thought it was possibly the result of long-haul Covid so they tested her for antibodies to see if that was the cause).

That's really interesting (for lack of a better word) the type of vertigo you had. I am glad that you were able to do things to counteract the effect of vertigo. In my case, I couldn't move at all, just lying there totally motionless, for a good hour or so. Am extra glad that you've now gotten rid of it.

I hope it'll go ok with me too. I'm prepping as much as possible for it, inclg taking the antiviral. So fingers and toes crossed and praying hard too!!

Yes, I know. {{SIGH}}. In fact, it's our exploding cases that are pushing me into making up my mind about the vaccine. The worst is that there are so many unlinked cases now. So who knows who's walking around with the active virus, sometimes not even knowingly.

Similarly, my hubby has inner ear problems that caused sporadic bouts of vertigo and severe nausea. A year or two an ENT doctor recommended daily use of prescription nasal spray, which seems to have kept the problem in check. He had no adverse reaction to either Moderna vaccination.

Tucker Carlson is doing people a disservice IMO. I don't know if he is spreading misinformation as I do not watch him. But he isn't helping end the pandemic. If he isn't helping us (as a country, as a world) he is hurting us. IMO. People listen to him. People follow his recommendations.

Hi @BMI, no worries. I didn't think you were defending him. I was just sharing a link discussing how he wasn't helping end this pandemic. How he isn't encouraging people to get vaccinated. (I believe he has gotten the vaccine though...he is a big hypocrite IMO). Without the great majority of people getting vaccinated we are going to be slow in ending this pandemic.

I agree with you. All the news broadcasts are manipulative and deceiving. That is the reason I don't watch them either.

Fluticasone Propionate. Apparently it’s the same as Flonase. My hubby used to get the random vertigo attacks every six months or so, and they were debilitating. He’d get long bouts of nausea followed by diarrhea, and then he’d have to sleep the whole thing off for a few hours. He pilots a small plane - I was concerned one of these bouts might hit while he was flying. But he hasn’t had a single incident since a doctor prescribed the nasal spray about two years ago. I’m still amazed such a simple remedy does the trick! (I also have a prescription for the stuff, for seasonal allergies, but I only use it as needed because I experience some mild side effects.)

I didn't ask because I didn't want to pry.

For those with health risks, I understand how difficult the decision is over whether to get the vaccine or not is. So much uncertainty either way. Heck, I had my own concerns with no risks.

One of my aunts is severely immune compromised and her doctor suggested she pass/wait when the vaccines were announced. She stayed at home and was extremely cautious with any deliveries - boxes sat in the garage for 3 days, everything wiped down, even reheated takeout in the microwave). She only recently decided to get jabbed because 1) she wants to see my mother when we fly out next month and 2) the Delta variant. Fortunately, like many others, she hasn't had any unexpected side effects to date - wishing you the same.
