99.2% of recent US Covid deaths were unvaccinated people

May I ask, if you're comfortable sharing, what autoimmune condition you have?

I have Hashimoto's and prob rhem. arthitis (yet to be confirmed). I've been wondering whether to vaccinate and have just made up my mind to get vaccinated next week. I am very concerned about my autoimmune getting worse.

Of course, I’m happy to help. Many years ago I was diagnosed with Lupus, but they also thought it could be (MCTD) Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. As of late, I also suspect fibromyalgia, but I haven’t been to a rheumatologist in quite a few years because the medication they put me on never helped.

I would get the vaccine again and I’m hopeful that the symptoms subside as time goes on. The fatigue is quite debilitating at times again though…Wishing you much health and happiness. ❤️

Thank you so much for responding promptly, @Slick1 .

Glad to hear you say that you'd get the vaccine again. The fatigue - how often do you feel it? Is it all the time/constant?

Thank you for your kind words.

This quote from the article @icy_jade posted is really telling.

“I really just started asking them, ‘Why haven’t you gotten the vaccine?’ And I’ll just ask it point blank, in the least judgmental way possible,” she said. “And most of them, they’re very honest, they give me answers. ‘I talked to this person, I saw this thing on Facebook, I got this email, I saw this on the news,’ you know, these are all the reasons that I didn’t get vaccinated.

And the one question that I always ask them is, did you make an appointment with your primary care doctor and ask them for their opinion on whether or not you should receive the vaccine? And so far, nobody has answered yes to that question.”

Again, we all understand that there are some people for whom their physician has advised against vaccination. That is not the majority of the unvaccinated though. The majority are folks like those referenced in this article who are choosing not to get it.

For what it’s worth, I had a fairly severe adverse reaction to my second shot of Moderna and was impressed with how the hospital handled it.

I developed vertigo to the point that I couldn’t walk. Within 10 minutes of reaching the hospital I was on a cardiac monitor and getting prepped for a CT scan. I’m confident that appropriate intervention would have occurred had it been an emergency situation.

As it stands I just had to wait it out. 3 weeks and everything went back to normal.

I’m still thrilled to be vaccinated.

Glad the hospital dealt with your vertigo promptly and that you're fine now.

May I ask if you'd suffered from vertigo prior to getting vaccinated? I ask because I had 2 vertigo attacks, in 2017 and 2018. I've just scheduled to get Pfizer next week and one of my concerns is getting another vertigo attack.

@Phoenix you are very welcome! I do think the advantages with the vaccine (I am a teacher, so lots of exposure) outweigh the negatives I have experienced.
The fatigue always comes with barometric pressure changes in the atmosphere. I could perfectly predict my need to rest with the weather fronts that come through. It’s really amazing to have validation on my at-home weather station.
I hope you feel well and have no side effects should you decide to vaccinate!

FWIW my Mom has Crohn's and had only mild fatigue after round 2 of Pfizer. She is not currently on any medications.

Theres no point in trying to respond to the distractions and red herrings. It's a waste of your time and energy

I know. But it feels so good when I stop!

@Phoenix FWIW, my mom has RA and a number of other AI diseases. Her reaction to the Pfizer was feeling ill for a day or two but then she was completely fine. I also had a fever with the second dose (Moderna) and we would all do it again. Good luck and keeping you in my thoughts. (((Hugs))).

@Phoenix my friend suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome as well as a host of other illnesses, has received two doses of Pfizer and is absolutely fine. Still stuck with her chronic conditions but nothing has changed for the worst!

Covid would likely have been game over for her though so she needed the vaccine.

@missy , thank you so much for your post. I was actually wondering about you and the vaccine as I know you have thyroid issues too. Hope they're settling at least and that you've sorted out your meds.

Glad to hear that your mom and you didn't react badly after being vaccinated. It's giving me a lot of confidence to go ahead.

Thank you so much, @mellowyellowgirl . Good to know that your friend did alright after the Pfizer jabs. Yes, it'll be the same for me, I'm stuck with my Hashi and possibly RA for life! I do know that Covid would likely make me severely ill or worse, hence the decision to go ahead.

Goodluck hun!!!! Let us know when you've got it sorted so we can have a mini celebration with you online!!!

I've got a few more months to go before I'm eligible! Can't wait!!!

I will for sure come back and update, once I've gotten over the side effects (if any, hopefully not too many and not severe) ...prayers!!!

Wow, good to know that you're so eager. I hope you get it soooon.

Thank you so much, you're so sweet!:-)

First, I am NOT calling anyone out here btw, just a general thought on SOME possible vaccine aversion:

I saw something on Dr. Phil the other day that made me think of this. (Did I just admit that? LOL) Anyway, he was talking to a young lady who in this case just happened to be a major hypochondriac and even readily admitted it. She went to the emergency room weekly over various imagined ailments.

He told her that she needed to understand the difference between feelings and facts and stop reacting to feelings as if they were facts (because the results of doing so were poor).

I wouldn't doubt if everyone has done that before, but usually the stakes aren't so high. I just thought it was something to think about...

I have Graves disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism) and am fully vaccinated (moderna). My reaction to the second dose was mild at best.

I'm still in treatment for my disease, but I am healthy. Getting the vaccine did not make it worse nor did it interfere with my treatment.

I’ve never had vertigo before this.

I went to see a specialist yesterday for a second opinion and she said that there is no evidence that vertigo is a side effect of the covid vaccine. However vertigo can be caused by viruses that remain dormant in our bodies including the virus that causes cold sores. She believes that we may be more susceptible to a flare up while our immune system is adjusting to the vaccine.

I hope you don’t have any negative side effects!

Editing to add that I just noticed that you have Hashimoto’s. I do as well. My thyroid panel is currently normal and I’m fully vaccinated.

Horrible news—hopefully this age group will be eligible for the vaccine soon:

Stop the fearmongering! :hand: The odds of kids dying from covid is next to 0%. All the elderlies should be vaccinated but kids no.

Actually a 5 year old in GA just died from the Delta variant. Where there's one, there's sure to be more.

@Phoenix
I'm glad you're getting the vax, it's the smart thing to do. If you have any issues at all, they will know what to do. And you really don't want to get the virus with an immune disorder. Good luck, I know you'll do well.

Enough. Limit reached. Have to say my piece.
Everyone who can be vaccinated should be. The only way we can protect the people who can't take the vaccine for medical reasons is to make sure every other able bodied man woman and child does. 625,000+ in the US alone as of today. Dead. Thousands more with lingering or permanent negative effects after even mild infection. And we don't know why.
It's not fear mongering. Ignoring what's coming will get people killed. Infections are spiking. The age of infected is lowering. The ICUs are filling to capacity. Again. It's just beginning.
They are dying now.
The information about children's perceived safety from this virus is not taking the D variant into account, or the other variants that have and will continue to crop up.
There are people on this forum who cannot be vaccinated, many of us have loved ones who can't be vaccinated, and I am unwilling to just shrug and say too bad for them because others want to weaponize their ignorance and put other people at risk of death because ****ing reasons.

Not zero, and this D variant is different in who it effects, how it effects physiology and it's R factor being anywhere between 6 and 8(they're not sure how bad it's going to get) The one you know had an R factor of 2
We've seen pandemics before, the 1918 took three years to burn out and the 'second' wave/variant (like we're in now) killed many more people. We have something they didn't, a vaccine. Yet because of politicization and the idiocy that is Social Media we could have the nightmare of millions more dead unnecessarily before this is through.
Anywhere between 4-14 million are dead of Covid worldwide. So far.
This poor babies' parents didn't get vaccinated. They took a gamble by choice- they all became ill, but one of their babies died. There will be more. There have been more. How many depends upon what we do NOW.
That's not a risk I'm willing to take. Not for mine and not for yours.

Frankly, I'm tired of struggling with an immune disease that has not gone into remission, and in fact is flaring up "yet again". I'm tired of this horrible virus. I'm tired of all the divisive politics. I'm tired of so many people who are not empathetic to others, and think they know what's best for everyone.

Personally, I may just take a chance and get the vaccine even though it is not recommended for me at this time, because I honestly feel I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't. I can't find info on which vaccine would be preferable for people with autoimmune issues. If anyone has information regarding that I would appreciate it. Sorry for the rant.

Edited to say that I lost a family member to covid, so believe me, I am not anti vaccine. However, there are people who experienced serious side effects, even death has occurred. So while vaccines in general are a good thing, I don't think we should judge people who have legitimate reasons for refusing them.

I'm heartsick that you (and the many others with legitimate cause) feel hemmed in in this way.
Data is still somewhat scarce, but I hope that changes soon. Depending on your individual immune issues I would keep dialogue open with your specialists before taking that step. For many it is worth the risk- but not all.

My mom's doc wanted Pfizer for her.

Thank you for sharing this. I will discuss the issue with them again. The problem is they don't all agree. I guess I'll give my rheumatologist's opinion the most weight.
