a bit sad , did test, cherry amber is probably bakealite

What about trying the hot needle test on an "ugly" piece first? Then, if you get a pine smell, move to one of the small beads that would string up in the back of the necklace, next to the hole so it wouldn't be noticeable once strung?

good idea
i have a broken bead, i will try this
for educational purposes

I would love to see them when they are finished? Did you post a photo of your moss green agate finished piece and I missed it? Or are they still waiting in queue to be strung?

oh dear
my phone is fixed but
not set up yet so no pictures today either
and now im tired and cant concentrate
:doh::doh::doh::doh:
and that's how it went wrong the first time around (trying to set it when i was too tired) :(2

so far i have two moss agate necklaces and a bracelet finished, im wearing the first necklace right now !!:kiss2:
and a pearl and alernating agate one in the queue
and a 2nd one with mainly pearls still in my mind:lol-2:
and then an agate rope i want to try and do myself as it wont need a clasp ......
i must have brought at least 6 strands of beads:lol-2:

...and then maybe some earrings :lol-2:

took the chunky ones in today to be knotted up
i cant wait
im sure the lady that does the knotting will enjoy doing this a lot more than all the wee tiny holed things ive been giving her

ive desided the 2nd smaller necklace ill get knotted up as is and have the one big huge bead made into an enhancer pendant
hopefully i will be able to wear both necklaces together

sooooooooooooooo....................................
i got my bakealite back from restringing and i love it
with the bigger beads from the $80 broken strand it does look different than the ill fitting necklace i first brought,
it did take some getting used to, but the length is comfortable and its easy to do up and undo, So kind of princess length but it wont work to wear two strands at once unless i find a lot more small beads
:(2

one thing i love (sorry no photos yet) is that light shines through the beads onto my skin, and i dont even like red !
ive been wearing it all week

i cant wait to get the rest of the smaller beads done
but not even Gary has admired it/ noticed it
i did show my one friend who new about me buying them as amber but she cant have bee too impressed with them because she never said wow they are awsome or anything :(2
i know we wear jewellery for ourselves but ...well .... you know :(2

strange thing,
so in person i have never seen any other cherry amber (bakealite or otherwise ) apart from mine
Then last week an older lady came into work wearing some:kiss2: - she had smaller beads in a matinee length, she was impressed i knew what they were (she thought her's were genuine amber and im not going to fall out with an old lady (and a customer at that) over a necklace but they looked exactly like mine but like my smaller beads
she said they were real because they were very light,
which both amber and bakelaite are ........
(she did not know about the floating in water test im thinking)

then when i went to pick up mine the jeweller showed me a choker/ almost a collar of quite small beads that he had repaired the brass screw up clasp on,
he had never seen any till i had brought mine in
in my dreams that this one would fit my fat neck !!!:wall:
this one had much smaller round fascated beads, not oval like mine or the old lady's
it had a few larger graduated beads in the center and at one stage a bead must have been lost as there was one very white round pearl off center (i must say that arrangement is growing on me ) also one bead was damaged and had white discolourisation

inspired by my friends on the 'see my haul from today' thread im going to keep an eye out for them at thrift stores, because my town isnt that small and there could be others out there that volunteer helpers at charity stores do not know the value of......

so speaking of vale, with knotting and a nice new ss catch my necklace has cost cough cough $785:doh:
basically for 2nd hand plastic
but once i get the other necklace done and then make the really big bead into an enhancer pendant it will come down to be much better value:dance:

so we are well on the way to a happy ending;)2

and low and behold a lady was in at the jewellers with a cherry amber bakealite necklace on ! i wish i had worn mine
i know know of 7 such necklaces (2 are mine) in Wanganui !!!

maybe it should have been called bossenberry amber bakelite (i dont think they had bossenberry back then)
i took this pix at work on the ipad as the sun was streaming through the window and the pie was glowing

What a perfect match! :) Your necklace looks good enough to eat and that pie looks scrumptious. Now I am hungry.

Your necklace journey has been fun. It looks great!
