I had great luck today! I am in love with both of these dresses-- will have to take FI to see them in person- he''s not crazy about the pics. Which do you guys like better? #1 is a Maggie Sottero:

I think #2 is a Mori Lee?

I''ve got an appt at Winnie Couture Monday..I''ll keep you posted!

WHAT???? NO NO NO!!! He isn''t to be involved!! Girlfriend...you are breaking all rules and REGULATIONS...you are going to have to give up your membership card.

Now, if you promise NOT to show HIM anything else...I may convince the board of regents to allow you to stay...but this must end RIGHT HERE!

DKS

of the two the first one...but I really think because he has seen them...you are going to have to start all over!!!

I think number 1 looks good on you but I cant say I am a fan of either one. Maybe its just the pictures but they just dont seem like they do you justice. I hope you have better luck tomorrow

I decided early on that I was going to involve Gary in the dress shopping. He had been looking through my magazines and kept saying what he thought was pretty - and what he thought wasn't! I was worried that I would pick something that he really didn't like.

In the end I showed him every dress on the Maggie Sottero website. He picked out the ones he liked, (there were about 20 of them) and I chose my dress from that list. He has no idea which one I chose but I know that he will be really happy to see me in the one I picked out.

I know its not really the way to do it but I wanted to choose something he would love. For some reason he is very picky where wedding dresses are concerned!

I think out of the two you have chosen, number 1 is the nicest.

I agree that neither seem to do you justice... You have a great figure, I''m sure you can do better.

As fo FI participating, if mom hadn''t freaked ou about it, FI would have taken me shopping! We browsed through magasines and he doesn''t like pick-ups or tulle so I stayed away from that. Back when we were planning a more formal wedding, he saw the dress I wanted (I fell in love with it at a bridal fair we went to). Now I''ve picked a less formal version of the dress, but he hasn''t seen it. He knows there''ll be colour on it for sure and he''s smart enough to figure out it''s a shade of blue. If you want to take your FI shopping, go for it!

I vote for number 1! Is it Reem Acra?

As for FI coming, I WISH my FI would do that. It''s driven me nuts not knowing whether he''ll like things on me. But more than that, I hate feeling like I''m sneaking around and hiding things from him. It just feels dirty. Even if it IS just dress shopping. But he has said very clearly that it''s important to him not to see me in my dress before our marriage, so I''m respecting that.

So, if he''s down with it, LUCKY YOU! Take him along!

I like no.1! Any pictures of the back?

Many times I wish FI came with me dress shopping. I''m learning more and more about him through this wedding planning - (realizing he''s pretty adamant on some traditions - ie. not seeing the dress until the day of!) I think its sweet you guys are choosing the dress together - makes him more involved in the day both of you are planning together

To be fair to both dresses, neither were clipped around my waist- only my chest area, so there''s about an inch of extra fabric there that would be taken in. I''ve got some back photos on the other computer, which I''ll post this afternoon after work. :)

My FI and I have wildly different tastes when it comes to clothes, and it''s important to me that I get something he likes. He is picky, and I''m picky too, and dress shopping is starting to turn into a frustrating, lonely, exhausting, negative experience. I''ll come home with photos and FI will not like any of them. I''m going to try to bring him along a lot more. And now I''m feeling the pressure, too, because I''m running out of time...

Girl just go for whatever YOU feel amazing in! Not that his opinion isnt important, it is. But if you find a dress that you love and feel great in it will exude and he wont care if its a paper bag your wearing. Plus you might pass up THE dress trying to fit into his style. I like what Mandarine did from her dress tread. She found THE dress and showed FI a pic similar to it in a magazine (the dress has heavy ruffles in the back) and asked how he felt about it. Luckily he liked it, it was totally her but I have a feeling even if he said he didnt really like it she would have still gotten it because she felt amazing and everyone else would see that.

So girl let yourself radiate

just my 2 cents

I definitely like #1 the best... I think I actually tried it on also! And my fiancee has gone dress shopping twice with me... none of my close girlfriends live near me and he''s the one I''m trying to impress anyway. I probably won''t let him see me at fittings or anything though so the whole finished dress will be a bit of a surprise!

I think both pictures look a little odd and stiff, so neither you or the dress look their best--so I can see why FI might not be crazy about them. In person is likely a different story. Personally, I prefer the neckline of the second--its a little different than the standard strapless dress, which I think is sort of nice.

As for showing FI the dress, obviously, its totally up to you. I probably won''t show mine the dress in person, though I''m sure I''ll show him lots of pictures to gauge his taste, maybe even take him to the store to look at some (just not on me). If you do have him come look at the dresses, maybe have him look at a lot, get his opinion on all of them, and then don''t tell him which one you actually bought. That way, you''ll know he''ll like it, but there is still a little bit of surprise. And maybe don''t let him see you fully made up and put together (hair, veil, etc) till the big day.

I like #1 the best by far....fitted to your body it will look great , but...i have seen this dress everywhere...it is pretty but very popular. That would bother me a bit, but if you love it, it''s no issue.

You have a great figure, you''ll look good in lots of styles I am sure.

Is the first one Ophelia? I LOVE that dress. Looks gorgeous on you!

I''m not sure-- I know there are two Maggie dresses that look very similar, the Ophelia and another one. It''s one of the two! I really loved the antique-lace look on these two. I can''t remember what brand #2 was...I couldn''t find it on the Mori Lee site, so maybe it''s another brand that starts with M.

I did find THE ONE, but it''s a $4500 Lazaro, so I''m looking for similar styles that I can afford.

Dont care for the drop waist on the first one, it doesn''t do anything flattering for you. The second one in style/shape is much more flattering on you but really busy with that pattern. I agree with the others, you''ve got a great figure, you can do better!

i like both of these, but aren''t sure i love them. how tall are you? dropped waists have a tendency to make you look shorter. I tried on a couple and liked them in theory, but they didn''t do much for me in real life. one trick i learned - step down from that silly platform, which is designed to make you look taller and feel awesome. walk around on the regular floor and check out your reflection from there.

I''m 5''6" and some change. I did get to walk around the floor, but didn''t notice that it made me look shorter; I guess because I have a long torso and I''m not very short to begin with.

I''ll keep looking-- but I would be happy with #1. Now that I''m looking at them more, I think #2 has too much going on. I figured out it''s a Mon Cheri- maybe I should try some of their other strapless dresses on. They seem to have lots of sheath styles listed on their website.

ROFLMAO DKS. Load of hogwash honey! My fiance was my biggest help in shopping for dresses. He''s my best freind, and I want to look beautiful to him. Besides, after enough of them... they started to blur in his memory. So he would tell me whether or not he liked it IN THE STORE (yes, IN THE STORE), but if I referred to the dress later he''d be like: It was a white gown, and looked awesome on you, that''s all I remember. And I''m so glad that I got his input, because the day is all about US, and I wanted US to pick my gown. There''s nothing wrong with it.

I''m in the "I think you can do better" camp.
I like the maggie, but I don''t like how it cuts you in half in the middle. I think it would be better if the detailing there was actually at your waistline instead of your hip line. If you like the lace and the details, have you thought about trying on the casablanca 1827? I''m biased, because it''s the dress that I ended up buying...but I really think it does marvelous things for a girl''s figure and it has the same scattered detail on the skirt as this dress. I also happen to think it has just the right amount of beading and silver thread. You should really check it out.

Dress two is beautiful, but I think the boob area kind of makes you look "sharp" in the collar bone and shoulder area. Not sure how to explain it...it could be the way you''re standing. You had the SA take the photos for you didn''t you? UGH...they NEVER get it right!!!

Anyway, you have a fabulous figure. I''m jealous.

wow luckystar! Look what I found on Casablanca while checking our your dress!! I LOVE LOVE it. I already called a store to get it on loan from Casablanca. I love the detail, and that''s it''s not actually flowery, it''s more swirly, I love the colors, I love that it has that asymmetrical waist, and it won''t cut me in half horizontally! I can''t wait to try it on!!!

Wow! It''s beautiful! It will probably have the same "make your figure pop" look to it like the 1827 too, because both seem to have the modified sweetheart neckline and the fitted A-line skirt. I''m excited for you!!! Whoo hoo!!

That''s more like it! Same type of beautiful beading detail, but with an interesting waist, and a light airy tulle floaty thing going on below waist -- very pretty.

I definitely think a slightly sculpted or almost sweetheart neckline is what dress #1 is missing for you! That Casablanca might just be perfect!

Thank you! I don''t have any friends here to go dress shopping with and FI has just started coming with me, so I really appreciate all of your ideas/opinions! I''m checking out a Winnie Couture I have my eye on this Monday, but then I''m waiting for the Casablanca! Keep an eye out for pictures in about a week!

I like #1 I think it frames your body nicely. I don''t like #2 at all. I think its too busy and takes away from the nice frame of your body.

Awe! I think you look great in both! how could you not you''ve got a great figgure! HOnestly though i like #2 cause it''s really different and i''m all about that (i''m having black accents on mine!)

My FI and i always say we wish he could come with me cause he knows me the best and i know he''d be the best judge but he was even mad when i told him i was having black on my dress! He was like.. that would have been an awesome surprise!

they''re such cuties.

I like #1 better, because the pattern on #2 reminds me of curtain. But that''s probably because I can''t really see the details of #2 in the picture.

DH was there every time I went dress shopping. We both loved the same dress, and that''s the one I got.

i''m not in love with either on you...#1 looks nightgownish in the pics and #2 has a "busy" pattern. you''ll just know its the"one" when you put it on...happy dress hunting
