hi there i just found this site yesterday, i wish i''d found it a few weeks ago though. Anyways, my fiance and i are currently having our engagement ring custom made by a jeweler who is out of the business but takes on jobs 10,000 and up. Our ring is not costing anything near that, he took us on as a favor to the person who referred us. sorry, rambling. so my plan was this: semi bezel platinum setting .60 point center stone and then on the shank alternating .15 point black and white diamonds. so sunday i saw my center stone and the rough mounting.he is hand making the mounting. the stone is beautiful. i dont have the measurments, but its .64 g color vvs1 clarity. im choosing not to get it certified b/c of time and money. so he couldnt find any black diamonds in the quality that he would use. he thinks black diamonds are crap basically.( he didnt put in any of those terms) he did bring me some beautiful canary diamonds and suggested we use those instead. am i crazy to order black diamonds off the internet. are they as porous as he thinks? will they be black black? im in a quandy here any thoughts would be helpful.

He is only saying that because he has limited resources and education to buy the diamonds. If he is going to wear the ring then put in what he thinks

other then that do what you want

. It sounds like he brings in what he has access to. There are plenty of people that will do the custom job. Rethink who is doing the work. I would say more, but I wont. What is he charging, we will tell you if he is doing you a favor

hi...thanks for your reply. In defense of him, he did say if it was my hearts desire, he would get them. He is out of the business and is doing something else entirely, and hes probably a little old school. And maybe thats something i should have considered before working with him, b/c im def. not too traditional.

Part of the reason i wanted black diamonds to begin with was b/c i hadnt seen any in e-rings. But as ive done a little more research, i only see them in jewelry thats not worn every day. do you think ordering them online is bad idea? we are paying about 2,000. which is a lot less than any quote i got. Any insight is appreciated, i really like this forum. thanks
