Husband and I have been working on this upgrade for a year (plus or minus), and I finally have something to show you! We've been married 18 years, and for that time I've had a lovely 60 point H SI1 OEC that he inherited from his great aunt. We reset it into a traditionalish yellow gold wedding set.

At 10 years, he gave me a beautiful anniversary ring with 7 bezel set diamonds. I loved it along side my set. But as time passed, I started to get a hunger for something a little bigger and more flashy. After several months of not so subtle hinting, he caved in and let me start looking.

In November I found a beautiful (and extraordinarily well-priced) stone that seemed to meet both our requirements. A local jeweler was moving his business out of state and all stock was at cost. The stone was HRD certed RB 1.4 I SI2 (but it took me almost four months to find the two inclusions with my naked eye). It is on the deep end of ideal. I seemed to prefer the deeper cuts when looking.

As for the setting. Well....... that was quite a sticking point for us. Hubby seemed to think having a beautiful stone locked up in our safe was just fine for him.

He was even immune to my begging and pleading to set it into a temp white gold solitaire until we found the right setting, but he wasn't budging! I started talks with Mark Morrell to custom make a setting since hubby and I couldn't find the right one. I was at the point where I needed to send my deposit to Mark to begin design work. At that same time the local B&M called and said that another couple was seriously considering the one setting I kept going back to again and again. It was a discontinued setting from Spark Creations, but he'd told me he didn't like it, so that had effectively taken it off the table, even though I couldn't get it out of my mind. All of this was enough to convince him he'd run out of time and rope (I was planning on using the last of it to tie a noose for him if he didn't get in gear!), so we had the stone set and on my finger in March.

I just love it! It is a 7 mm wide, 18k yellow and white gold, with .4 c channel set rounds on either side. It's unique, modern, but classic. And I love how I can see the entire stone from the side view. Go ahead and give me your opinion, although it isn't the delicate micropave platinum that's seems to be in vogue at the present time.

That is GORGEOUS!! I love it, sooooo unique.

I find micropaved platinum pretty to look at, but not my cup of tea personally. Love the two tone. Congratulations!

It''s perfect -- definitely my taste. Most of my jewelry is 2-tone also, so I really like that.

Very, very nice! It is not common to see rings with 2 toned gold. I like it , as it has a clean ,not in your face modern look to it. My hubby bought me this ring for Valentine''s day the year we were married. He is a ferrari car freak and I think he chose this ring with the ruby to remind him (or me?) of his favourite car. I nearly fell backwards when he gave me the ring 15 days after we were married!!

Thanks all for the compliments. It turned out great, and it fits my personality exactly. And yes, Buena Girl, it is a Spark Creations setting, but it was discontinued, so when another couple was seriously considering it I nearly panicked. But kudos to my local jeweler! They knew how much I loved the setting, so they called me to let me know it might be walking out the door. That''s personal service!! Way to go, Lewis Jewlers of Norman, Oklahoma!

I love your story and your ring.
