Anyone reading this? Did anyone watch the webcast last night? I tried but the connection wasn''t great.

I thought it was interesting that he talked about human affinity for beautiful things, one example being precious stones, because of their ethereal qualities -- that somehow these forms can be a window into a higher state of conciousness. It sounds very new-agey and usually that turns me off but it was very interesting especially as all the major religions of the world were discussed.

It gave me a different perspective on this forum as well as on the "value" of diamonds. I have wrestled with the issue of: is it vain to want a bigger diamond? how big is too big? is it selfish? greedy? too materialistic? egotistical? Does it send the wrong message to be sporting a big diamond but also trying to live simply and spiritually? I''ve found people on this board to be genuine and caring and it''s interesting to find a fourm where everyone is captivated by beauty (as I am).

I was curious what others thought.

Yes, I'm reading it...have also read Tolle's "Power of Now" and found it very interesting. Missed the webcast last night but I did sign up for Oprah's 10-week interactive class. Oops. I never have been good about book club type things. Ah well...not letting my ego make me feel bad for it either. Heehee. Horrible joke.

ETA: I do admire him for his acceptance of all religions. Not many authors/figures can claim to be so free thinking.

I''ll have to check out that book. I LOVE new age stuff. Diamonds do have other qualities besides material value, just like any stone, but for me, I prefer other stones for spiritual purposes and will always see diamonds as gemstones representing materialism and lacking a sense of innocence. Of course, I do enjoy my diamond jewelry, but it''s not really necessary and diamonds are very overpriced, so I can not entirely get past that aspect.

I DO think a person can enjoy a "simple" life as well as sport a diamond as long as the person isn''t over indulgent in all every part of their life as then there simply is a large problem at hand. Upgrading a diamond should be for the love of the stone, not to fill a void in one''s life.
