i know i know! its only been a few months since i got my three stone ring,,but im really really bad! for some reason i am now interested in getting a new setting done (and after all i had to go thru getting this one done)! u see..its all because of these amazing rings i see everyday that made me into this diamond fanatic!! (my husband always shakes his head and walks away when i start rambling about my latest ''lesson'' on PS!)...anyhow..back to the topic at hand..i initially had major reservations about the ''halo'' settings, but after seeing so many here i have fallen madly in love with them!! SOOOO! here is the dilemma..i am not too sure if i''m going to go thru with this yet as i still need to persuade DH that the value of my ring is in its diamond which i will reuse and not in the setting (since mine is set in a simple 18k WG and cost me nothing in comparison to the diamonds)..so this is my thoughts...

i love how kittykat had her prongs set in a way that made her RB look more like a cushion/squari''sh looking diamond rather than round..and i also love ''Lovey''s'' halo setting....NOOOOW! question is, is it possible to do a combination of using my RB center diamond (0.64 SI1G), utilize kittykat prongs and get a final look like lovey''s??

thing is, i would contact whiteflash or platinumsmith, but as i am not sure i will go through with this project, I do not want to burden them with coming up with a design and then decline as i know how busy their schedules are...is there a way that i can use a software or go somewhere that i can ''draw'' out the design so i can see how it looks? and would anyone know how much something like that would normally cost? (i do not want the pave diamond to go all the way around the band, but only half way...)

I am attaching KittyKat''s and lovey''s rings so u can have a look at what im talking about!

sorry for all the rambling!!!!! ur help, thoughts, ideas, and comments are reaaaaaaaaally appreciated..

Hi MSB, I know how indecisive looking at all these beautiful rings can make us!

Is that your ring in the avatar? It's gorgeous!

This might sound like a crazy suggestion, but since your ring is only a few months old, what do you think about getting a CZ of your favorite ring? That way you're not committed to continue with a project, money, emotional attachment, etc... and you can still have your 3 stone. Just a thought and good luck!!

marvel: yeah that is my three stone in the avatar..thank u very much...

i actually contemplated the CZ idea, but for some odd reason i dont feel too strongly about that idea...maybe if i can see the whole design together then i would change my mind? too many choices, too little time!

More like, so many choices, so little money

My first instict was to keep the 3-stone and design a new ring! But, I think I know that look you're going for and I think it would be beautiful. Think about it for a while, and go with what you think will make you happy in the end. I'm sure your husband will feel the same way. Good luck...it's a tough decision!

Oh msb700 your three stone ring is so gorgeous, are you sure you really want to change it already??? You have one of the prettiest rings on pricescope! Have you gone to a local jeweler to try on different styles of rings? That might help you decide what you like. I am always amazed at how rings look different on my hand compared to just seeing pictures.

Sundial: thank you so much for the compliment. I really do love my three stone ring, and i am sure that i will miss it, but the more i see the halo settings, the more i love them!

unfortunately we don''t have such a variety in ring/setting styles over here. all we have is the very basic and i don''t even think i have seen any setting remotely close to a ''halo'' setting..

dilemma dilemma!

MSB,

I know how it feels to really love a different e-ring setting than the one you have. I say, if you have the money and really know that this is the ring you want, then go for it.

As for the actual ring, hopefully an expert will chime in!

Good luck and keep us updated!

Michelle

Oh, msb...your three stone ring is so beautiful...and such a timeless classic!!!

I know...halos are magnificent...I love them...but they are really "in" right now. Your current ering will be "in" fifty years from now!

Have you considered getting that halo ring of your dreams mounted with a colored gemstone for a RHR? There are are some beautiful colored gems out there that aren''t terribly expensive. Learning about, and looking for a perfect colored gemstone can be an adventure unto itself.

Of course, these are just my opinions. In the end you have to do what''s best for YOU!

It''s funny, I''m having the same kind of thoughts as you, as I too recently aquired a lovely three-stone ring. After we purchased it, I saw all the beautiful halo rings and fell in love with them. I particularly LOVE the asscher cuts. However, my thinking is more fantasy than reality, in that I really wouldn''t go back and change my ring.

I have, though, thought about doing just what the other poster suggested, and that''s getting a pretty colored stone sometime down the road, and putting it in a halo setting for a RHR. Of course, that''s if some other style doesn''t come along to catch my eye!

thank u all for your wonderful comments about my ring...

it really makes me have a good look at my ring and see if from a different perspective...

widget: i guess ur rite....about halos being in *now*...but will the fad continue? i dont know....

I guess i will look around a bit and see what is out there and what can be done...if i find the perfect deal that would make me give up my current setting then i might..as for the RHR, I dont know. I usually like the only ring on my fingers is my engagement ring so that all the attention is on it without any distractions

thanks again all for your help

Why not use all three ?

I could not find an example with the kind of prongs (sometimes called 'fishtail') you want, but THIS has stones of about the right size to give an idea of the look.

Exceldiamonds (former ? Superbcert) makes a solitaire with fishtail prongs (THIS) and halo settings... It may help to show examples of the different esign elements when you ask someone to make them work together.

Perhaps halos will go out of favor at some point, but the style has been around for a long time and it shoul stay more or less in because of how flattering these rings are both for the wearer's hands and stones.

Just IMO.

valeria101: wow! thank u so much for this...if i *do* end up going for the halo look, then i would prefer to go for a solitaire look instead of the three stone halo look.

I *love* what you have done with placing the RB in the halo setting...that is an excellent idea and should give the jeweller a better understanding on what i am looking for...
