We eloped a little over a week ago. Most of my family knows by now. No announcements, just some word of mouth and a few facebook exchanges, which is fine with us.
I was on the phone with my grandmother this morning talking to her about it. She asked me what kind of gift we wanted. I immediately said no gifts.
She replied, "Well you have to send announcements out to my sisters (my great-aunts) so that they''ll buy you gifts. They owe it to me after all the wedding gifts I''ve bought their grandkids over the years!"

I laughed. There is no way I''m sending them out so I just let her go on about it.

AHahaha! That is rich, sounds like H''s mother who is having a post-honeymoon reception so that everyone who isn''t invited can come and give us gifts.

aw, grandma is cute! Congrats on your marriage as well!

My FI proposed on Saturday, and grandma (who is 91) was there, but bless her heart, doesn''t remember. Everyday this week has been funny with getting to tell her all over again, and getting new funny reactions!

The last time, she said that if she didn''t remember something as big as a proposal, then someone needs to get her some chloroform!

She seriously said that! LOL!!!!

Also, how has your family taken your elopement? Did they know in advance?

They are taking the news well. I was a little nervous I might get some backlash for making it a total surprise. The only family member who knew was my brother (its a sibling thing).

Aw Trill that's cute except the cholorform part. I'm glad she'll be at your wedding. My great-grandmother used to ask me when I was about 8 years old if I was "courting" yet because she couldn't remember how old I was.

And thanks for all the congrats! I've already broken my wedding band and had to send it back for stone replacement

but things are off to a good start.

That''s pretty funny!

Yeah, I''m pretty sure a lot of the overly generous gifts I have been receiving from my parents'' friends are really more for my parents'' sake since I barely know some of them.

That is too cute! Maybe you should just let her have "her day" and send some announcements out!!

Congratulations for getting married
